  1. What is new? It has always been that way at Happy Valley. You folks from Carter County should know that by now. Usually the officials give Charlie's teams all the breaks when you play on the hill at the Valley. Then there are the Barney Fife constables that hang out at the games and try to intimidate the visitors. Oh I am sorry, I jsut dissed Barney.
  2. Some others in northeast Tennessee were: Fall Branch Cardinals - combined with Boones Creek Bars (Daniel boone's spelling of Bears) and Sulphur Springs to form Daniel Boone Blountville Tigers - combined with Holston to form Sullivan Central. Mary Hughes, Bluff City and Holston Valley combined to form Sullivan East. Lynn View Lynxes and Ketron Wildcats combined to make Sullivan North. Church Hill Panthers and Surgoinsville Eagles combined to form Volunteer. Rogersville Warriors and Bulls Gap combined to form Cherokee Sullivan (referred to as Sullivan West) Pirates was combined with part of the Sullivan Central district to form Sullivan South. Jonesboro was combined with, I believe, Lamar and maybe one or two others to form David Crockett. Erwin Blue Devils now Unicoi County - may have been consolidated with another school. Not all of the schools mentioned played football. I could not be sure about some of them so I did not attempt to name the ones that did and the ones that did not.
  3. The high school rules on field goals have not been changed. In fact, the rule used to be the same at all levles of play. The college and pro rules were changed several years ago because it was felt that too many field goals wre being kicked form long distance. With more risk involved with a missed attempt it was felt that teams would be less likly to attempt very long filed goals. The rules were changed in the '80s I believe.
  4. There is no such thing as a team RBI. I would always choose a double play over attempting to get the lead runner at home. That is why the batter does not get an RBI when a run scores on a double play. There is no way a sac fly can be credited on a play in which the last out in the inning is recorded. Therefore, a run must score for a sac fly to be recorded. No sac fly without an RBI.
  5. It is too wet to plow, so load up your jack and get up to the game.
  6. Yes, JLB the Cherokee game is a night game. 7:00 p.m.
  7. And they cannot convience me that the kid was not arguing the call. HV argues everything that does not go their way, including pitches. Good win at Hampton. Play two vs. Johnson County tomorrow. Game time is 1:30. JC beat S. East Monday.
  8. The games with Happy Valley are Friday, aren't they? That is what my schedule shows.
  9. DandDD, come by my office. I have the schedules for both. I believe they play at home on Thursday. Tomorrow the JV plays at Central before the varsity.
  10. It is my understanding that the kid got tossed yesterday partly because he slammed his helmet to the ground. That is an automatic, especially if you are disgruntled with the umpire.
  11. The Twins field is the worst that I have seen this year. Hampton's field cannot be much worse. That is true, even if we had won both games. Whether or not both tems have to play on the field has nothing to do with quality. You Carter County people think everyone is like you, trying to make excuses when they lose. The field is in terrible shape right now for whatever reason. Facts are facts. Some of the bad bounces were in the dirt. That has nothing to do with the type of grass. The reason Volunteer lost the first game was because they did not make some plays when they should have.
  12. Hey, Art, let someone who knows the scores put Volunteer's scores on the scoreboard. The first game was 10-9, not 10-5.
  13. Got to win two today to stay in the conference race.
  14. Big game today at home vs. Unicoi County.
  15. Volunteer 1 Sullivan North 3
