  1. Superfalconfan05, remember what I've told you about letting your heart do your thinking and in this case, talking.
  2. Inthetrenches, I know four of the five members of the school board. So, if I want to do something about the coaches or anything else at Volunteer, I can talk to them. That is not to say that they are going to do anything just because I would like to see it done. All I mean is that they will listen and discuss the situation. That is much better than getting on this board and spouting off. It hurts the kids. It hurts moral. Besides if you do not have a dog in the fight what does it matter to you. I think the problems at Volunteer go deeper than coaching. What they are I cannot say. It is complicated and cannot be blamed on one thing. We have had some very good coaches at Volunteer that did no better than the present coaching staff. That is not to say that there is anything wrong with the present coaching staff. I said it that way to keep from debeating the abilities of the present staff with those of you who are completely down on them. I wish I knew the answer. It would help all the sports, not just football.
  3. You outsiders are idiots if you think it would serve any purpose for us Volunteer people to get on here and tear down the coaching staff. Even if we agreed with you, we would be doing the program more harm than good to do as you propose. I am proud of our people for resisting the temptation to get caught up in your games. Why don't you all go somewhere else and let us deal with our problems ourselves, unless you have something positive to add.
  4. Waco, your dig at the coach was not missed. In his defense let me say that the team's problems are not because of the coach. Yes, he has probably made some mistakes, but then, who hasn't - even you o' great one. I did not think this team would be as good as most were saying. Those who know me real well know that I said it before fall practice started. Therefore, it was before any of the events that are being given the blame happened. The kids are playing hard and deserve better than what they have gotten. Defense is the name of the game and our defense is not very good. We have some very good individuals, but as a team they are not very good. On the other hand, before the season started almost everyone was concerned about the offensive line. They have come around and are playing some good football at this time.
  5. It seems that some people need to stop blaming other people for their own problems. Lashing out at others because one is angy or upset at something or somebody else is not very ladylike. Seems that apologies are in order.
  6. creekercalhoun, you are incorrect. Lindholm was not kicked out of school because of drugs. He has played some at Twin Springs. If anything had happened at Volunteer it would not have affected his ability to play at Twin Springs. If you do not believe me ask Derek Smith.
  7. It is odd that some of you get on here and berate Tennessee for not recruiting Chad Pennington when Chad says that Tennessee should not have recruited him. Also, remember that Marshall was a D-1AA school when they recruited Pennington. That means that we did not lose him to a major school. That further means that every D-1A school in the country made the same mistake. Some of the others that yopu have named were recruited by Tennessee but they chose to go elsewhere. Thompson is a prime example. Tennessee recruited him hard. Please do not bring up kicker that we let go. We have the best kickers in the country on the team at present and both are in state players. Don't even go there. You just show your stupidity. For those of you who were for Florida last night, you got what you deserved. Go Big Orange.
  8. 89chief, are you talking about all sports or just football. I find that those statements come from ex-players that have an inflated view of their talents and did not make it as high as they thought they should. We have had several from Church Hill to go on to play D-1A football. Not recently and not from Volunteer as I recall. By the same token I do not recall any football players that transferred from Volunteer that went D-1A in football either. They get promised that if they go elsewhere that they will get a better scholarship. I do not know of anyone for whom that was true. Speaking only of football, although that is probably true for all sports. I can name a few that just the opposite happened to them. Further, I do not know how these poor uneducated children from Hawkins County can go up to the T-pee and make the grades. After all, the education up there is so far above what they have gotten down here. How do they ever catch up and stay eligible?
  9. Yes, my question about Brian was directed toward ULC. I apologize for any misunderstanding. It was not clear. Also, at the time I forgot that ULC and family had probably already left for Conn. to attend his mother-in-law's funeral services. I guess we will have to wait until they return to get an answer to my question.
  10. Wacojaco, you imply (and you were not even there) that people were waiting on Ralph Nelson to come off the field at Volunteer. That is not the case. Because he waited to be the last person off of the field does not mean anyone was waiting to start any trouble, only that he probably feared it. Because he feared it does not make it true. It only means that he knows that his actions were in very poor taste. May he choke on his stats. Volunteer had already hoisted the white flag and Nelson kept throwing the ball with his first team against Volunteer's subs. Then he called timeout with 16 seconds on the clock to set up a pass to the endzone. It was tastless and classless. Waco, I generaly enjoy your post but there are times you wear a little thin. The same way you D-B fans are a little thin skined about some things, like recruiting and no real state championships in football. So maybe you shold go to the D-B thread and celebrate your win over Oak Ridge and leave us alone right now. ULC is a little upset because it appears that his son may have been the target of some dirty play by East and was hurt because of it. Then Nelson pulls his stunts. By the way, how is Brian?
  11. Actually, DandDD, Brian's grandmother lived in Church Hill at The Landings on Silver Lake. Brian's mother found her around 12:30 to 1:00 Friday. They did not tell Brian untill he got home Friday night. It is not my intent to bring up bad times. I am just trying to keep the record straight.
  12. Lander33, why don't you ask VHS2003? She seems to know.
  13. VHS2003, I do not know what your agenda is. It seems all you know to do is come on here and criticize and stir something up. If you have such dislike for me why aren't you big enough to come to me in person. You know who I am. I am fairly easy to find. Why do you hide behind a screen name? You are right, I do have somewhat of a personal interest in this matter because people like you have a tendency to accuse people of things that are not true. My first comments about basketbqall vs. football were only to try to let people know that my family and I are not rejoicing over the matter. Some might accuse us of that, you know. My son would rather have Chuck playing with him than not. That does not mean we are not concerned for him. In fact I have been concerned for him for some time. I did not realize that things had gotten as bad as they are, assuming they are as bad as you claim. But, then again, I have my own boys to worry about. I apologize for my spelling error. I was tired last night and did not exercise my usual care in proofreading my post. It makes me feel good to know that my post was such that a misspelled word was all you could really wrong. Now let's get off of this and get back to discussing sports. I do this for entertainment, not to deal with the same things I deal with all day long. That is why we discuss trivial matters. The bigger matters of life are left for the rest of the day. Now, VHS2003, why don't you go on all of the other threads and tell them how sorry and self-centered they are because all they are doing is discussing sports while your relative, friend or whatever your relationship with Chuck is, has a problem.
  14. Sometimes God has a way of interveaning in things. VHS2003, I had written you a very pointed reply. I still do not think there was anything wrong with it. When I hit the button to post it something went wrong and it did not make it on the board. Now I cannot remember how I said what I said and I do not want to say it any other way. I will say that I think your tirade was out of place. Everybody who has posted on the subject are Chuck's friends and are praying for him. This is a discussion of high school sports. I think it would be improper for us to discuss the REAL problem. If you want us to, we can. You probably would not like the discussion. Just because we discuss how what has happened will affect the teams does not mean we do not care about Chuck. I love Chuck and only wish the best for him. But the rest of the Volunteer family is affected by the recent events. The mystery surrounding the situation as well as the timing tends to put Volunteer High School in a bad light. Regardless of what you think, it is a legitimate concern. I did not appreciate your tirade. In fact I was proud of my restraint in my reply, both my first one and this one, to you. You were completely out of line with your accusations.
  15. Yeah, everybody seems to be worried about the effect on football when Chuck's leaving hurts basketball more than it does football. JMHO.
  16. Inquiring minds, go to tricitiessports.com
  17. From what I hear, it is going to take more than senior leadership to get this team where it needs to be. The trouble will not listen to other players. The coaches are going to have to step up and up the boot where it belongs. If that means sending people to the side line then so be it. When the quarterback cannot call plays because of one player's mouth, the coach needs to do something. Win may have an "I" in it but it applys to each "I" doing his job and not blaming others when he does not do his job. There is nobody on Volunteer's team that is good enough to win the games by himself. There are no MJ's and this is not basketball. Ask MJ about baseball.
  18. Hey, where are all of you Falcon fans. This thread got buried back on the fifth page. I thought I would bring it forward so it would not get lost. I know things did not go so well in the scrimmage with Johnson County but there is a week to get matters taken care of. One is to learn to hold onto the ball. Sometimes the better back is the one who holds onto the ball. It does not matter how fast you are or how good your moves are, if you cannot hold onto the ball it does not matter. Maybe, we need to change balls and go to the "Bud" brand instead of Nike, Wilson or what ever they use these days. Then maybe some could catch and then hold onto the ball a little better. A little discipline would also help. Too many illegal procedure and personal foul penalties. When I played if we had been that undiciplined we would have started running after the scrimmage and we would still be running. I am talking about the whole team. There is no "I" in team. Go Falcons!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Panther, seems to me if you are going through Goshen to go to either West Greene or M'town you are going the difficult route, especially if you leave from Volunteer. The Bulls Gap way is probably closer for West Greene. It may be six to one and a half dozen to the other as far as M'town is concerned, but the roads sure are better going down to Bean Station and across. I have not been on in a while, so I had to say something. I figured I might be able to discuss travel routes without getting anyone too twisted and bent out of shape. Last spring I got fussed at for trying to give some stats. Some of us cannot win for losing. You had better be careful Panther, those folks from Moshiem may get ill at you for saying that they are in Greeneville and vice versa. GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Why play on Sunday when we have a whole week to get the tournament played?
  21. Guys, this is why you play ball. It does not get any better than playing for championships. It should be really wild tomorrow night. Both teams need to win. In fact both teams need to win both games. It ought to be great. Neither team is going to lay down and let the other team walk over them and both teams are capable winning both games. At present HV is in first place in the conference. Volunteer, Unicoi County and Sullivan North are tied for second place. Unicoi Co. is finished at 10-4.
  22. I do not want to put too much pressure on the team, but if they can win out in the conference they will tie for the conference championship. Unicoi County has completed their conference games with four losses. North has three. If we beat them they will have at least four losses. Then a sweep of Happy Valley would give them five losses. A sweep of all three games is not going to be easy. In fact a sweep of HV is not going to be easy, but you guys can do it if you will hit and play defense behind your pitchers. HVbutch03, who cares about next year? That can be changed by the weather. Now tell me that driving two miles vs. driving over thirty is not an advantage. I know some kind of Carter County logic will determine that it is at least the same. We have a conference race going now. Next year may never get here.
  23. Why don't we play the games at Volunteer? Now there is not reason to give the home games to HV. Our field woud have been in great shape to paly today. The problem with Wed. is that it is to be our Senior day. OK if HV comes to our place. We can cancel or move the Chuckey Doak game. Why even bother with Milligan? We have lights and can play 2 7s or a 7 and a 5, instead of two 5s like we were going to do.
  24. Volunteer plays David Crockett at Daniel Boone today (Saturday) at 12:00.
  25. Two good wins last night. Does anyone know the possible times for Saturday?
