  1. Who was the player that was injured in the game? Certainly, you hate to see anyone hurt with such injuries. However, we are generally seeing players with torn ACLs generally returning within 6 months with intense rehab.
  2. Are you the same keeper that played for Redoubt FC 88? This was a combined team from the Chattanooga and Memphis areas in 2005. Diadora Impact 88 (based in Franklin) played them in Chattanooga a week before the State Tournament and then again during the State Tournament.
  3. Okay, I have been sitting back over the last few days watching these posts regarding Franklin coming primarily from you and one other. You are painting the whole Franklin program and all the Franklin girls in a negative way due to the alledged actions of one Franklin girl. If we have such a young lady on our team that is doing these things you say, I very much regret it. There is no place in sports for such actions, although we see it everyday at all levels. Believe me when I say that I have seen players from other teams (even yours) who both play dirty and talk dirty. As a Franklin parent, I have followed the Franklin program the last few years, and in particular, the last four years. The girls have a lot to live up to and have generally done so with class over these last four years. Two state championships out of the last four years isn't too bad. The last 2 years have been very frustrating. If you can't score consistently, you can't win big games consistently. Nonetheless, this group of seniors added to the school's soccer legacy and will leave it with 10 state championships and 2 state runnerups. Now, we are off to play and watch college soccer. Finally, if you have a beef with one of our players as you seem to, speak to her directly. Leave the Franklin program and the other Franklin players out of it. CoachT has rules in place with regard to negative posts, particularly those that are repetitive as are yours.

The Redmon Poll is seriously flawed. With the exception of Baylor, I have seen every team in that poll and some teams mutiple times. Pope John Paul (PJPII) may be the best team in the state and they are not in the top 11. Although I primarily follow Franklin and the district they are in (Brentwood, Centennial, etc.), I feel this is the year of the private schools in girl's soccer. The privates have at least six teams that should be in the Redmond Poll, including Father Ryan, PJPII, Baylor, ECS, St. Agnes, and Hutchison. Yet, there are only two of these in that poll, Father Ryan and St. Agnes. Just goes to show that polls don't mean a hill of beans. The playoffs, and only the playoffs, mean anything in the end.
  5. Scoring a lot of goals in high school games is generally not a factor a college coach looks at due to vast difference in competition high school teams play throughout the course of the year. Players are generally sized up for college by their play on select/travel teams where competition is much stronger. In particular, college coaches scout showcase tournaments, state select tournaments, regional/national select tournaments, and ODP tournaments. Thus, putting up large numbers in high school is not a factor. Finally, for this reason, there is no legitimate reason to purposely run up scores for the sake of college opportunites.
  6. High road, low road, or toll road....it is what it is. There is no reason to schedule BA or MBA when the playing field is not level. Might as well play a small college team. You must love George Steinbrenner and his ability/willingness to buy talent so he can win. No hard feelings....just hate to hear DII posters bragg about how great their teams are with the inherent advantages they have with recruiting. What's the point! Again.........great win by the Irish! May there be many more, particularly if they don't recruit as they say!
  7. Congratulations to the Irish! What a great win. The game was won in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Offensive line seemed hugh and gave runners plenty of room to run. Defensive line was in Franklin's backfield much of the night and gave Mikrut liitle time to set up and throw the ball. Frankly, I am surprised Father Ryan lost so handily in its first two games. Looks like their new coach has turned the corner with this team and I look for FR to win a number of games over the remainder of the season. Other than the State Championship game last year against a pretty good Riverdale team, this is the worst defeat I have seen Franklin suffer in the last six years. They were manhandled and seemed poorly prepared. They never were able to use their speed.....which is the strength of the team. Lot of work to do if they expect to finish out the season strong. As for DII versus the publics.....guys and girls you recruit and we don't, so your bragging about how great you are really is a moot point and its getting a little old. But....if it makes you feel good, have at it. One of the posters said that FR does not recruit or offer scholarships. The two big defensive tackles (#s 72 & 34) sure looked like recruits to me. Good luck to the Irish the rest of the season! Again...great win!
  8. Taryn Holland, the keeper for Franklin High School, has been a starter for Franklin since her Freshman year, including the 2002 & 2003 State Champion teams. She has committed to play for Mississippi State University in 2006.
  9. Great win by Centennial! As anticipated, they are much better than their rating. They have tremendous offensive punch as they have four players in the midfield and upfront that are all capable of scoring. They are definitely one of the top three public school teams in the state. Franklin has nothing to be ashamed of as they played hard throughout the game. The bad news is they continue to struggle finishing and scoring, which puts a lot of pressure on Franklin's defense and GK. The Franklin keeper had no chance to stop either goal scored by Centennial as they were hard, clean shots. The good news is that Franklin is having to play a number of young players due to injuries. The game experience gained by these players coupled with the return of those players injured should allow Franklin to be that much stronger come tournament time. That is when the games will really count. The last two games Franklin has played two of the top teams in the state in Father Ryan and Centennial. The schedule does not get any easier with #1 Brentwood on the horizon next Tuesday.
  10. I am not familar with CCS. Who is CCS? Thanks.
  11. My congratulations to the Siegel players. I was very impressed with Siegel last night. They have a number of young players with impressive ball skills and good presence on the field. The most impressive thing I observed was their collective effort. They never gave up and continued to pressure the ball. They could have easily hung their heads and given up after being down 2-0. They didn't. Should be a team to reckon with the balance of the year, particularly at tournament time. After all, that's what it is all about. I was also proud of the Franklin Lady Rebels. The offense did a good job of getting us a lead. The defense really stepped up and played solid. Siegel really applied pressure in the last 10 minutes of the game and the defense held their ground. It was good to see 3 out of 4 of our Sr. defenders in place during that crucial time after Siegel's goal. It will be a relief to have all of our players back in place over the course of the year. Again, congratulations to both teams on a well played game!
  12. Since most college soccer players are recruited from the ranks of travel/select teams, by what you are saying, Shelbyville must have a number of girls playing on such teams. How many travel players does Shelbyville have on its girl's soccer team and on what teams do they play? Most of the travel/select teams in the midstate area are located in Rutherford, Williamson, Davidson, and Sumner counties.

  14. From your schedule, I see you play Franklin, Hendersonville, St. Agnes, and Oak Ridge in succession. Of the four teams, Hendersonville does not seem to be as strong as in past years, although they will likely be much better by the end of the year. The other three teams will be formidable and unlike teams you normally play. If you get past these teams as impressively as you have the teams you just listed, then you can really talk.

This will be a very demanding tournament.
  16. Coach T, How do you delete the Fall 2004 schedule and add the Fall 2005 schedule?
  17. Coach T, How do you delete the schedule/results from Fall 2004 and add the upcoming schedule for Fall 2005?
  18. On one hand, you place great stock in the strenght of scheule rating, while on the other hand you criticize the AP ranking. The AP rating may be flawed and Franklin may not be a legitimate #1 team, but how do you know the strength rating is not flawed? How do you know their schedule is not as tough as Oakland? Having looked at Oakland's schedule, I did not see anything very impressive with it. The AP rating is an opinion. The strength of schedule rating is an opinion. It is all a moot point. The bottom line is that Franklin is 20-0 and has had a great season. The proof is in the pudding and we will not know how good they are until the playoffs begin. Hope to see your team there. You may get lucky and get to play them. Should be a cakewalk for your team. Congratulations on your run of 20 win seasons.
  19. The last official, all state tournament team was announced at the 2002 state tournament. They no longer have all state tournament teams.
  20. First, Tullahoma was eliminated in the first round last year by Hendersonville (?). Tullahoma lost to Franklin in the state championship in 2002. As for this game, Hendersonville has played a much harder schedule than Tullahoma over the course of the year. I know the Tullahoma folks will take issue with this, but their region is just not as strong as those regions in Sumner, Montgomery, and Williamson counties year in and year out. Tullahoma, by far, is the class of their region. Tullahoma has a good team, but I feel Hendersonville has the edge due to the tough schedule they have played. Therefore, I pick Hendersonville to win, 3-1.
  21. Both teams have played a quality schedule with a number of ranked opponents over the course of the year. Just about too close to call. However, I pick Brentwood to win 1-0 in overtime.
  22. Both teams have played quality schedules. You have to throw out Germantown's record as this is a new season. Germantown seems to be peaking at the right time and has really come on strong toward the end of the season. If they were playing just about any other team other than Farragut, I would likely go with Germantown, as I consider them the darkhorse for state. However, Farragut is just too good and too deep. In addition, their loss in the semifinals of state last year still haunts them in all liklihood. Thus, I pick Farragut in a close one, 2-1.
  23. Houston has played a very competitive schedule against some of the best teams in the state. They have some quality wins/ties and even some quality losses to good teams. The schedule for Ooltewah has not been nearly as impressive. Good record, but not enough games against quality competition. Therefore, I pick Houston to win 3-1.
  24. Considering the fact that Franklin won 3-0 in the championship game last year Sports Dad, I hardly think a PK enabled Franklin to win the game. However, if you were at the game tonight, you know that officiating greatly affected the game in Hendersonville's favor. Both teams played their hearts out and it is a shame the game had to end with a PK in sudden death. You may not want to admit it, but you kinow it. Good luck to Hendersonville in your pursuit of your first State Championship.
  25. Indeed, they do travel to play Franklin at Cheek Park. These two teams played to a 1-1 tie earlier this year in Hendersonville. This is a repeat of the 2003 State Championship game in Chattanooga won by Franklin 3-0. Both teams lost key personnel from that 2003 game. However, both teams return with keepers who were touted as preseason All-Mid State candidates. Hendersonville returns GK Christy Zabek, a Senior, and Franklin returns GK Taryn Holland, a Junior. It should be a great game.
