  1. I'm glad to see everything worked out.
  2. Did your son break his arm in Clarksville?
  3. The middle school administration in Clarksville did not allow wrestling. They will allow basketball, but no other sports. CHS was able to find a loop hole with the help of the Middle school league in Nashville. But we are still trying.
  4. That means`Hendersonville will be number one and Mt. Juliet number two right. What was the score?
  5. Can you beat a Dan Gable Camp? This camp is one of Tennessee's best keep secrets. Gable only does about 6 camps a year the All Results Camp held at Austin Peay State University is one of those. There are eight mats for only 200 wrestlers which gives you alot of space to work out in. The camp could easily pack 400 in but the directors are more interested in puting on a quality camp than a high number quantnity camp. The camp moved to APSU's campus to offer dorm housing last year.
  6. I'm looking for a freshmen or JV tournament in Jan. Other than Brentwood and the Grandchampionships are there any more?
  7. DAl cool down. In no way was I refering to any school or one wrestler. I was simply making a post on calls that called very differntly across the state. If Faircloth is calling your match you have about 10 seconds or there is a stalemate. Other refs will let a guy ride you for a period and warn the bottom man for stalling. I have been in both situations where my guys were on top stalling and the bottom wrestler was called for and the reverse.
  8. Here is one more. Any leg rides are just that rides. The top wrestler has control and the advantage. Many times the bottom wrestler is hit for stalling when the leg rider should be, because he has the advantage or called for a stalemate. The wrestler should either turn the bottom man, take the legs out and attempt another move to turn the bottom man. The offical should be doing one of two things- counting back points or calling for a stalemate. Jack does a great job at making these calls.
  9. Here is one that I see often. Wrestler B is in the down postion and wrestler A is riding him. When wrestler B hits a peterson that forces A to his back. Some officals will call the reversal, others wait until Wrestler A" feels he is in danger and starts to scramble to get off his back" others wait until the pin. Sharrock
  10. Who does Franklin have coming back next year?
  11. Here is what the coaches voted on and were told TSSAA looked favorably on it. 1. bring Sub state into DI duals. The regions would be on a rotation each year. The state will be split into regions 1-4 and 5-8. Every year they would rotate Ex- first year 7-8,5-6: next year 7-5,8-6: and the next year 7-6, 5-8 and like wise in 1-4. Here is how it will work the number two team from each region can choose to travel to the corresponding region champion. Thus the winner goes on to the state duals. A team does not challenge but can if they want to. This is in hopes of having new teams in the duals. Which could mean a region could have two teams in the duals. 2.Combining regions 1-2,3-4,5-6,7-8 for small schools. The small schools would then bring one team to the duals for a small school state tournament. 3. DII would stay the same as far as I know All of this would be great for our sport by helping other programs to grow. The only change to the State tournament would be an earlier start time.
  12. Just remember if things go as planed the Regionals duals will not be on a weekend. Regionals will most likely be on a Tuesday or Wed.. The Substate will occur on the 28th or 29th to allow teams to travel. Coaches if you are making schedules now you might want to go ahead a plan on this.
  13. When is Greenville? What other tournament are going on Dec. 4th I know Kenwood is having one.
  14. To Bond Davis and to other wrestlers who feel the calls did not go thier way, I'm sorry for your heartache. Life can be cruel at times and you have a hard time with the question why? It was a misfortune, but life goes on. It will leave a scare on your heart forever. The question you must ask yourself is what will you do with that scar? Will you feel it forever and make excuses or will you feel it's sting and use it as a call to action. I too have a scar. Every time I drive to Chattanooga I feel it. I have been very successful in life, I have a wonderful wife, a job I enjoy and can make a good living at "selling real estate" and I'm looking forward to my first born child. That little scar helps me to remember what it is like to fall a little short of my goal. I never want to feel that again. But life is like that, I will fall short again but not with out a fight. Just remember God will never give you something you can not handle, and that does not kill you only makes you stronger. Again I am sorry the situation worked out like it did. What will you do with that scar? Sharrock Cobb
  15. This was a case of two great wrestlers wrestling and everyone getting caught up in all the action.
  16. KKW is right. The case book states that once a wrestler leaves the mat the match is over and mistakes are not corrected. Any time there is even the slightest question of score a wrestler should stay on the mat until the situation is resolved. If the coaches all three of them were at the table one of them should have told Davis to stay put and explain the situation to him. I agree he lost the match when he was pinned then he lost the second he stepped off the mat if there were three false starts.
  17. Does region 5 Wrestle the whole thing in one day?
  18. If you know the guy is going to pin who ever you send out, sometimes it is better to forfeit the match. You give them the six points but you do not give them the momentum. Pins fire up a team, where forfeits even though they are worth the same do not. This is just one reason a team may forfeit in a dual. This may have been in the game plan from the start and the plan fell apart earlier in the match. Much like my game plan fell apart against Soddy early in the match.
  19. We have heard from Soddy and they are on the way! Have not heard from Bradley but they will be here. Science Hill arrived last night.
  20. No the duals can remain together and host 16 teams. That has already been worked out. The start times and the finish times are pushed forward and back by 2 hours. That is with a single elimination in the first round.
  21. I just wanted to give all the fans a heads up of what to expect this year at the duals. Let me first of all welcome everyone to Clarksville. We are very proud to host the duals and every year we try to make things better. The seating has not changed. There is nothing I could do to help this situation. I would arrive early to get a good seat. I expect the stands to be full with loud cheering fans! Parking was brought up as a issue from last year. I do not think it was a lack of parking spaces but rather the walk to the front door that many people did not enjoy. So we have changed the entrance to the duals. The entrance will be in the lower parking lot, which is the first parking lot if you are coming from the Interstate. There will be signs directing you from there. This way you will be inside as you make your way to the gym. Also our second gym is now finished. Many teams enjoyed the warm up mats last year so we have set them up there. This will also serve as the weigh in area on Friday and Sat. Good luck to all the teams! Sharrock Cobb Clarksville Wrestling
  22. One of the best ways to increase the popularity of the sport and the quality of the state is to have more teams in the state duals. The duals is the only championship that I know of, were a average kid can be a state champion. Taking an average kid who can not be pinned and putting him up against a stud who has to pin could very well be the factor that determines who wins thestate tournament. What other sport has this? Every wrestling coach knows that they have to beat the hallways to find athletes to wrestle. This is not football or basketball, we have to recruit. What a great recruitment tool a coachwould have, when he could walk the hallls and tell athletes wrestle for us and we will take you to the state tournament. So what if a team gets knocked out the first round, most football team think advancing to the payoffs is an honor. What is the difference? Why are DII schools ranked higher than most DI? I would argue that they have already figured this out and use it to their advantage. If you start on a DII you qualify for the individual state tournament. How many DI kids can say they made it to the state tournament? And this is not a bash DII statement, it is exactly what I said before, they have already figured it out. Success breeds success. So bring on the 16 DI state duals.
  23. That was how the brackets were explained to me. That the seeded teams were placers from the year before. It was the logical thing to do. How else could you set the tournament up and hope that the best teams did not meet before the finals. I can make arguement that this system does not work. The past two years the best matches were the semi's in DI if you look at the results. I was mistaken it was last year that 3 and 4 were switched.
