  1. 'bump' is just a way of getting a thread back to the top of the forum topics for all to see when noboby has posted on it for awhile but someone still wants folks to see it.
  2. Yes Eagle Eye. Twisting the subject around on the kids isn't exactly productive though. The kids aren't the problem. All three of the kids you mentioned were very good role models and athletes as well. The problem, if you'll read back, is the program. Talent or not, the program doesn't use what the school offers. Kids are cut and folks are wondering why. Kids aren't trying out and folks are wondering why. You mention the kids aren't motivated to work hard..........again, folks are wondering why. Simply put, the talent is there, the program isn't. A fine example, John Huskey was on the freshman team. He was cut as a sophomore so he focused on football after that and didn't go out his junior year after being cut the year before. He decides to go out again his senior year, despite being cut as a sophomore and lo and behold, he's cut again as a senior. Bottom line is, he's one of the most talented basketball players in the school. He was cut twice and 'motivated' to not even try out once. These are EXACTLY the problems kids are facing at JCHS.
  3. Actually, the article asked why JCHS never produced Division I talent out of the boy's program. It didn't state the kid in question was Division I talent at all. It all started when that kid played the previous year with the team and all summer, then was cut at tryouts in favor of some kids off of the football team who most locals know were not nearly as good as the kid who was cut. This seems to be a year in and year out problem with the boy's program at JCHS and they clearly did it again this year. Guys like Shiverdecker, who is an outstanding football prospect, made the team and guys like John Huskey, who is an outstanding basketball player, were cut. Other kids don't even try out for the program. Some because they play as Freshmen, then are cut at Sophomores and then the program wants them to come back out as Juniors. You can't blame a kid for tiring of that merry go round system which is used by JCHS. It's what happened to the kid whose parent wrote the article. While the girl's program at JCHS is in full swing, the boy's seem to be stuck in this same perpetual rut every year. I certainly hope myself and the multitude of others who feel the same way are proven wrong this year but by the looks of tryouts, it doesn't look promising. Whether the person who wrote the article was just the disgruntled parent of a kid that didn't make it or not, you can't refute the fact that the boy's program is, in fact, not producing college talent. The question of why these kids are being cut and/or not going out is legitimate. I wish Coach Sinard and the boy's program all the best but they need to stop this cycle of putting a player on the team, cutting them the next year, asking them to come out the following year, etc etc.....that they seem stuck in. Pick your players and develop them over four years, don't ask them to play a year, sit a year. Also, don't pick players because of who they are, pick the best players. The program is what matters, not the kid's last name.
  4. Well said on the problems of who is selected each year for our Patriots. Too bad that so much talent is left off the court at JCHS.
  5. /nod I responded because it was asked that we discuss the boys team. I'd just as soon stick to the girl's anyhow as they look to be more exciting at this point.
  6. This isn't the proper forum for it, but i'd be surprised if the boys surprised anyone. They once again cut some of the better players at the school in favor of some of the players with the right last name. There were kids at tryouts that could barely dribble a ball that made the team because they were a star in football or because they have the right last name while other kids that are very talented dribblers, team players and all around basketball players were cut. I just don't understand why the coach does that to his team every year. It's too bad really. They have the talent in the school to compete but if you're not going to suit up your best players, then it just isn't going to work. There's a reason folks wonder why the boy's program at JCHS doesn't produce college level talent. The talent is there, it gets cut from the roster all too often, or ends up sitting on the bench. Thank goodness Coach Potts runs the girl's program differently.
  7. I'd just be surprised if Huff's not 1-A or 1-AA at the very least next season. Very talented with athleticism and great court awareness. Runs the floor well for a post player too.
  8. Yeah, unfortunately some fans don't understand that while not every school is blessed with God given talent that will one day make it to the college ranks and maybe further, they still have kids that are out there....putting in the hard work and sweat trying their best to help their school and team win. All too often fans such as DZBettin focus only on the standout players and worse yet, turn on the rest of the players out there. Coaches, players and most fans know that every team needs role players that go out there and do what's asked of them night in and night out. For someone to come on these boards and rip them as awful is just a lack of knowledge for the game and immature at best. Shane Chambers, while not a stud caliber player, gave his best and was an honor student in the classroom and a model citizen as well. Too bad fans don't see beyond the stat lines or limelights, huh DZ?
  9. He played middle school ball at Maury Middle School in Dandridge Tennessee and lived in Florida only briefly for a month or two that summer. Obviously you know something about basketball as evidenced by your knowledge of many of the players throughout the area. I don't believe being negative about anyone is going to do you, nor any of these kids who are playing any good. Try being positive about the kids you think are good. Remember, your negativity on these or any other boards only reflects on you, not them. Trashing some kid who is only trying to do his best playing ball, isn't benefitting anyone, certainly not the kid you would rather see get the press. It's the responsibility of the coaches of the individual kids to teach them team play and how to become the best basketball players they can be. Not someone on a forum. Good luck to you and your favorite players/teams this year TonyMontana.
  10. They're sophomores. Haley Chambers is a post and Demeka Holt is PG/SG. Both played Varsity last year although sparingly. As a side note, do you have confirmation that Sarah Jane Sinard isn't playing? She played most of the summer with the team in camps and this is the first news i've seen that she isn't playing. Does she have plans to focus on golf now possibly?
  11. I watched Terrance Oglesby play thru middle school as well as high school and it's very obvious that TonyMontana has something personal going on there. To say that Oglesby isn't very good means either A) you have no clue what talent is and have watched Scarface too many times, or B ) you're simply upset because your own friend or 'boy' if you will, isn't getting the same recognition from people who actually know basketball. Oglesby is a legitimate talent and just like all other talented young players, he still has a lot to learn but the fact remains he is a gifted athlete who most likely will end up at a 1A program somewhere playing on national television someday. TonyMontana maybe instead of coming on here and trying to ruin his reputation due to what appears most likely to be jealousy or maybe envy, you should focus on talking to the people you want to recognize your boy 'Luggage' because it sounds like he's a pretty good player too and being positive about him would be better than negative about Oglesby. In the meantime all you're doing is dragging your boy thru the mud with yourself. - As a side note, CoachT needs to update the spelling on Terrance Oglesby's name in their database. It's currently butchered up pretty badly if you could check on that any Admin that reads this and thanks.

    Best Kicker in Tenn.

As far i'm concerned the best high school kicker i've ever seen played for McMinn County this year. I don't know his name but everyone in attendance when they played Jeff Co was impressed. I'd be interested to know where he's planning to attend college as well.
