Just opening a thread about this week's contest. We came out strong against Heritage, no post DB hangover. Good to see the coachs work the depth, we were substitutiing freely early in the 2nd quarter. I have not heard much about Sevier, would like to read some informed comments.

That would be a good game, if we didn't already have DB and Sevier County from Region 1. As far as history, I know OR has played Jeff Co. several times in the playoffs over the years. Alas, you can't play all of the good teams over the regular season!

That is still the question. We still have a lot to work on in those areas, even though as far as pass defensive goes, we didn't let DB go over the top on us like they did against Jeff County. However, as you said, the running game was doing just fine.

BTW, this score was without Booker.

Now that I have made it home... First, congratulations to DB for a game well played. Many good plays that made the difference down the stretch, however, the game ball should go to the O line for DB. They provided excellent protection for the QB and that enabled him to play pitch and catch. I thought DBs defense played very well in the 2nd half especially in shutting down the run in critical situations. I also thought Duran came into his own tonight. He was very poised down the stretch and made big plays when they had 3 and long. The atmosphere was great with an awesome crowd. Second, I was glad we were able to come off the long bus ride and execute well. Booker had a fantastic game with some gutsy runs. Spencer ran well from the full-back position. However, we did not play well enough to win. Too many penalties and too many missed tackles. Easily the worst tackling since last year's Clinton game. As for getting away from the run, I thought in the 2nd half we were too one dimensional and ran too much. We did not mix the plays well like we did in the 1st half when we did mix the pass and run. I was proud of our guys for fighting down the stretch, but you got to make the plays. DB did when it counted, we didn't. Overall, we have some things to fix, especially the pass rush, if we are going to make a run down the stretch. DB should be very very good by the end of the season. However, so will we. Should be another fight down at our place.

Sounds like they are good enough to beat some tough competition. Pretty good to me.

No Dandy, it's sad because coaches in this state has a massive inferiority complex when it comes to competing against private schools. They don't win because they think they can't. Abolish this silly DIV II business, grant privates full membership in the TSSAA and let's raise the level of competition in this state.

So I won't say anything about the stairs that threaten to dump you face first in the mud.....

Oak Ridge - 18 Rhea County - 0

Yes, stopping Booker and Gulmire is easier said than done. Booker is bigger this year, he is playing at about 185. The biggest difference this year is that he is much harder to bring down than last year. I have yet to see anyone tackle him one-on-one. However, I feel that the key to our success is whether we can get our passing game on track. Probably the same goes the other way for DB whether on not they can run the ball. While this game is a key one, it seems to me that both teams are still maturing and will be much better come playoff time. Looking forward to the game, not looking forward to the bleachers or the mile-long hike to the bathroom.

Well, AJ was a 3-A semi-finalist last year. Normally very competitive in small town Illinois football, which is to say they are going to get killed. However, it would be fun to see my boys from S. Illinois have a good showing.

Can any of you Brentwood Academy people give some background as to how this game got scheduled? I was born there and grew up about 25 miles away in Marion.

It was not this close. Our first-unit defense played very well. I think Bradley had 2 first downs in the first half, one of which we gave on a off-sides penalty. I don't think they gave up more than 50 yards total offensive. Our offensive played well at first, but got very sloppy after getting up 21-0. Cory and Spencer played well all game. Our quarterback needs to be more consistent, but more game time should improve that. I like the way we came out and played at first, but we need to play with more focus. Bradley fought hard almost all of the game but was completely overmatched. There is much work to be done to prepare for DB, but it should be quite a defensive battle.

I like how our Cats have progressed so far, I'm picking Oak Ridge 35-0. What say the rest of you?

The Cats are going to hold up just fine thank you. They played exactly the kind of game you would want them to play this past friday night. They came out sharp and just dominated Clinton. I think you will see improvement every week and more evidence that Oak Ridge is back on top.

Scott should be a good one for our team. With experience, he should get better in a hurry. If you come to the game tonight you can see for yourself. I think everyone realizes that we have to have balance to win, even though with the backfield tandem that we have, it would be tempting to run most of time. However, I am ready to see some teams burned that load up in the box to try to stop the run.

Clinton vs. Oak Ridge here. Good old-fashioned hate going on here, great rivalry even though OR rules the series.

Cavcav, Several midwestern states use different classifications for different sports. Illinois for years only had 2 classes for basketball. The whole post-season was single elimination. However, I think there should be 4 classes in football, 5 is too many. But...back to the thread, only in TN do we have this discussion. There is no good reason why Public and Privates shouldn't play each other. Let the Super-Seven be 5-A. Sometimes they will win, sometimes they won't, but one thing is for sure, there will be better football in this state.

Yes, and just because a family moves so their athlete can play in a certain school doesn't mean they were recruited. But, it does make enforcement of the recruiting rules much more difficult.
