  1. Read his posts, he is anti D-B...that is his nickname, he is the self professed watchdog over D-B to make sure he keeps "them" in line...which is perfectly fine...but he is not a fan, nor a supporter...not from or for...ask him... Roll Tribe Roll
  2. PowerPlus, Watchdog isn't from or for D-B... Roll Tribe Roll
  3. I understand very good...they have a lot of returning starters on both sides of the ball and Coach Julian has done a very good job in his short time as head coach...I think they have some realistic high expectations for the '07 season. Roll Tribe Roll
  4. Turf was supposed to be down for this season, but I understand it will be down for the 2008 football season...on all fields. The Indians scrimmage Knox Halls Friday at 6:00pm @ D-B. Roll Tribe Roll
  5. They do play Rocky Top more than they should (the band director is a former UT drum major)...I remember when Rocky Top was played as Sullivan Central's school song, so it's not the song I want to hear at D-B games...and I am a UT grad... Roll Tribe Roll
  6. D-B scrimmages Halls this Friday (8/3) @ 6:00pm at D-B and is slated to scrimmage Maryville on the 14th or 15th @ Carson-Newman; don't think a firm date has been set, yet. D-B is also scrimmaging Knox Central @ Central in Friday 8/10. Roll Tribe Roll
  7. There were no "me's" on last year's team...it was talked about for years and all last year the level of teamwork, the love, and respect between the players in and amongst last year's senior class...so go watch something else, on this one you know not of what you speak...and they have had a checkerboard endzone...Lee does a great job with that I will agree that maybe this year's bunch will rally around the fact that they are maybe not forecast to win the conference aka the basketball team two year's ago. Roll Tribe Roll
  8. Yeah and Sevier County is in the same mode as D-B, they lost a lot of two and three year starters...they still have good talent, it is just unproven simply due to a lack of experience...it should be a very good year in the conference...I think Jeff County will be better, but as someone put it, I think they will have a while to go to get back to the attitude of the Jeff Jennings, Scooter Houston days (hard to ever match that talent), but just want that swagger back in Dumplin' Valley, it's good for the conference. Roll Tribe Roll
  9. plowboy2, You stated that without the receivers you listed (again, one incorrectly listed) Burton "wouldn't have completed half his passes...they made him look good"...that would be running down a player...that is a slam...that is a derogatory comment and is not needed...and it is far from true...Bo had real good receivers in Sensabaugh and Throp, but he was an outstanding QB (all three made first team All Big East and All NET, so others saw their level of skill)... and hey, thanks for the "Mr.", I appreciate the respect. I do agree with you that this D-B team may surprise some people...kind of like the basketball team, year before last everyone said they would be the worst D-B team ever and they weren't...this year's bunch hasn't even put pads on yet, we all should be patient...there are good athletes and good kids on this team, who only lack experience... Roll Tribe Roll
  10. topvol98, I did read your post and didn't realize I was doing something wrong by agreeing with WaCo, just used his recent post to further the discussion...but, obviously then I agree with you, as well...one point to remember: the Bearden D-B match-up takes place in the 3rd game of the season for the Tribe, so that one will set the tone for the remainder of the conference slate. Roll Tribe Roll
  11. I agree with WaCo, I think the Bulldogs of Bearden will be the team to beat this year in the Big East... why is it that Bearden isn't the Bears?...always wondered that...that would make sense wouldn't it?...the Bearden Bears. Roll Tribe Roll
  12. plowboy2, A good lesson on here is to not attempt to build up a player or team by running down another (obviously that is a good life lesson, in general)...Bo Burton and Duran Ferguson both proved their worth on the field...they both had truly outstanding careers...I hope the two young men competing at the QB job for D-B can both have the same said about them... and by the way, Bo didn't throw to Purple Hayes...but he did to Sensabaugh and Throp... Roll Tribe Roll
  13. 7 on 7 is good practice...but, we haven't put pads on yet...there are a lot of good kids on this year's D-B team who have talent, but haven't yet had the game experience...I am going to be patient and have confidence in the coaches and players...There is not an easy game on D-B's schedule and Tennessee High is the first game and thus should be the only one being talked about now. Roll Tribe Roll
  14. compusatman, The situation in Memphis/Shelby County changed after the J.P. Prince led White Station state basketball championship (their 3rd in 4 years?) where there was no longer an "open door policy" and that led to the White Station head coach leaving for a private school in west Tennessee...and #6 for Alcoa's football team and he also plays basketball lives in view of Knox Karns, so I am truly not sure what the TSSAA has done...I am just a firm believer in "on any given night" (within reason)...I have seen things happen in the course of a game that could not be anticipated that decide the outcome...two examples regarding D-B football - D-B vs Red Bank in Chattanooga in the 5A semi-finals, D-B has the top passing offense in the state (Chris Henry captain of MTSU's football team his senior year, and Gerald Sensabaugh as their receivers and a record setting QB in Scotty Butler) and probably the quickest back to ever wear the maroon and grey in Adonis Johnson and we are playing Gerald Riggs' Red Bank team...beginning at about 4:30pm Chattanooga receives over 5 inches of rain before the 11 o'clock news begins...on a dry field or even reasonably wet one, it isn't a game...two years later D-B vs Riverdale in the semis in Murfreesboro a short punt by the Indians punter is touched by an D-B player (but not downed) and is picked up and run into the endzone by a Riverdale lineman for the deciding TD...heck lets go to the D-B vs South (the 7-6 win for D-, there's not a South fan living that thinks that one was won by who should have won, the two late fumbles (even though caused by good defense and not just a dropped ball) made the difference in the game...none of those three examples were decided by "bad" coaching, nor were they decided by "good" coaching...getting to those games and achieving those opportunities were the result of good coaching and good efforts by some high school athletes and some luck and some God given grace, so thus "on any given night"...I just can't say that anywhere is automatically better and again, I think the basketball gives vivid examples...when the open door policy was in effect for Memephis White Station got a large number of outstating basketball players (Dane Bradshaw, Travis Strong, Courney Pigram, J.P. Prince, etc.) and won championships, but when the school was going to have to rely on the athletes in the specific geographic school district the coach retires and they haven't made it back to the state since...plus this year when the middle and west were supposedly (ask all the recruiting "experts") so much better that anything the eastern end of the state could offer and then Maryville wins the state 3A basketball championship... and you are (again) exactly correct that without a tuition situation we could be looking at the best in football from NET all going to a particular school (for a coach or facilities or whatever) and the same could and would be true for basketball and baseball and swimming and tennis and so on... I think Coach Clark has done an outstanding job @ D-B...his teams have won some they probably shouldn't have and they have lost some they should have won...but the Indians dressed out for all of them...I think he loves the kids and that is shown by his actions...I think Coach Carter has done an outstanding job at South and is a good fit for the school and the community...would you like to change some stuff from the Mo East game?...sure you would and so would he...would I like some things different in the Wm Blount game? sure I would and so would he...but "on that given night"... Roll Tribe Roll
  15. compusatman, we will just have to agree to disagree on a few subjects...I don't think east and middle are "better" as if it is an automatic...you probably don't think D-B was "better" two years ago against South, yet the Indians won... Blount County has an open school policy...one example; one of Alcoa's WR/DB's lives within viewing distance of Knoxville Karns High School, yet is able to play @ Alcoa...many other examples of this open policy have been discussed on coachT (similar situation was in play in Memphis, Shelby County, that led to basketball situations like that of White Station being able to load up on many of the best and tallest)... publicity is better in other parts of the state for individual athletes, more AAU exposure, recruiting "experts" living in the bigger city markets and making money by promoting some of their own over others they truly haven't seen enough to evaluate... the "map" has been dictated by statements such as D-B always loses in the first round and the other teams could assist in repositioning the map by being more consistent, but then that takes a program being in place and that has so many variables (coaches, AD, fan support, parental support, school board attention and money, players with talent and work ethic, just to name a few)... why is it that we are suppose to except the sentence that says Region 1 5A (the Big East) is a weak conference?...since the 5 classifications have been set, how many Knoxville or east TN teams have won the conference?...Sevier County has...Knoxville schools haven't, nor did the Blount County schools when they were in it (Karns, South-Doyle, William Blount, Heritage?)...in fact how many Knoxville schools have won Region 2 5A?...normally it is Oak Ridge...so why are we supposed to just say okay they are better?...D-B played MBA two straight years and split with them, and the game D-B lost went four overtimes and D-B was playing without fours starters who left with cramps and one starter whose knee exploded on the second half kickoff and another stater who injured an ankle, yet it went 4 OTs to decide...and MBA was in the private school championship game both of those years (best of my recollection)...who was better?... Maryville High School is different from other 4A programs...and Mo West has been real good over the past few years, but who else in Region 2 4A have been consistently better than South, Tennessee High, and Elizabethton (especially under Coach Rider)?...now Mo East won last year in the playoffs and were better on that given day, but I just refuse to say Region 1 4A or 5A are of a lesser stature. Roll Tribe Roll
  16. compusatman, Michael Willis isn't playing, the back-up RB I think you are referring to isn't playing (just playing baseball), Ring is the QB, Crawford will be in a reserve role at a couple of positions... how far down should you think down should be before it is a reality?...there were quite a few three year starters that graduated last year and a large number of two year starters, so D-B has a good crew of guys (who I believe in to do their best) who take coaching well, but have very little experience and that factor has been an reason for the fans of virtually every school represented on this board to explain a loss (or more)...I don't know of anyone that sees D-B having a losing record, but probably don't expect an undefeated one either...last year's expectations were that high, so from that standpoint, down would be the direction of expectations...maybe they are more realistic expectations...I don't know... Who do you expect to win the Region 1 4A race?...what were your expectations last year, were they met? Roll Tribe Roll
  17. Well let's see here, D-B is down, but they have kids with heart, but most of those kids don't really have heart and they really aren't down, they aren't young, but don't have any experience...the Indians just don't have a coach...playing the best 4A schools in NET is not good enough competition, they must play teams from the middle of the state or at least the best 4A school in the Knoxville area...Oak Ridge is only sort of good competition, I mean, hey, last year they lost some games (and we won't consider the fact that after losing to D-B on their home field at full strength, they had numerous injuries to key players including their outstanding QB)...D-B has been to the playoffs something like 14 years in a row and the only time in that period they didn't win the conference it was won by the team that won the state, but didn't D-B beat that team in the regular season that year?...I could have a bad memory, I am old...and D-B has lost in the first round 3 times in those 14 years?...what schools can even lay claim to the playoffs for 14 consecutive years?...Riverdale, Maryville?...I am sure there are more and yes they both have championships, so yeah, D-B just doesn't have a coach...unbelievable...someone go back and look at the tape of last year's loss, you will see two TDs that were called back that should not have been - the calls on the field didn't accurately depict what actually took place; but that happens...was that bad coaching?...no, bad officiating...after a spectacular 40 plus yard pass and catch put the ball on the four, the final four plays of the game were bad, no doubt...but the game shouldn't have come down to that situation, yet it did... and you guys ragging on D-B's coach should then look at your own head men, as they can't, couldn't, and haven't beaten D-B, so what does that say about all the coaches at all those schools?...I guess everybody needs a coach...oh, yeah wait, the Hill has one... Roll Tribe Roll
  18. southeastbell, You all will enjoy playing against Volunteer...they have always had good athletes, hard nosed and determined, now they have the coaching to teach the discipline... hey, you all have a basketball player going to LMU (don't you?)...Ryan Whitaker?...tell me about him...I understand he is a real good kid and a real good student... Roll Tribe Roll
  19. Bearden should be the "Beast" this year. Roll Tribe Roll
  20. compusatman, Here is a quick version of what I understand...field turf will be done next year...08 season...the new building will house a concession stand, public restroom facilities, dressing room facilities for the baseball team, and the office and work area for the groundskeeper...the bleachers I don't know about...D-B will always have the FunFest situation that pretty much prevents permanent visitor seating...the field separation and facility lengthening came into discussion and left with the building of Hunter Wright Stadium... Roll Tribe Roll
  21. Mo East won the championship in 1969, the first year of the playoff system in Tennessee...they had only one loss that year, to Dobyns-Bennett... And the Professor and Mary Ann were in color and added to the opening song...I'd say that one counts... Roll Tribe Roll
  22. I understand he got "cold feet" and is staying on the Hill... Roll Tribe Roll
  23. Maybe I misunderstood the last post, but I don't think you can characterize a few posters on coachT yelling about the last four plays of the season for D-B as the D-B fan base calling "for Clark's head"...don't know of any Indian fan that would want that to be what last year is remembered for, but the implication of an organized mutiny is well beyond incorrect. And regardless of what thoughts may be playing out in the Pactolus community, South ended the series with D-B...D-B wanted to continue, South decided not to continue...that is a fact...my understanding is that of the decision makers at South Coach Carter was the only one who wanted to continue the series and he was overruled, out voted, or whatever the term you might want to use...and I understand this because that is what Coach Carter told me... It is done, I think unfortunate, but that is how it is and so we all go on... If I did misunderstand, then I apologize. Roll Tribe Roll
  24. South didn't want to play D-B...Coach Carter was the only one at South who wanted to continue playing the game...he was overruled...South didn't want to play D-B, it had nothing to do with D-B upgrading their schedule, D-B wanted to play the game and continue the series...period.
