How did McMinn County do???

April 26 & 27th.

McMinn County High school is looking for 1 JV team to play in one JV match. Our tournament is set, however Sweetwater can not play its first match of the day. We are looking for 1 team to play 1 match--you can have your pick of a 10am match or a 1pm match. Cost is FREE. I am just hoping not to make our JV play 3 matches in one day. There is an article in todays Daily Post Athenian. I remember Stephen as a Player. Very talented and very knowledgable about the game. I think he will do a good job. It will take him a few years to get things turned around. I just hope they are patient with him and he doesnt get too frustrated with the early lack of success. I coached a couple of Soddy players a few years ago that came to TWC. Do you belong to one of those young men?

I read in the Chatt times/free press that Russ Grier has taken back over--for just this season. Any idea what happened to Theresa Knox?? It said she left for personal reasons. I am not wanting to get too personal or too much info, i was just wondering. I have always thought that she has done a pretty good job of coaching both squads.

He had a "band" on his wrist--like a LiveStrong--but it was in memory of his cousin. Young man was a basketball player at Cleveland and was killed about 14 months ago--maybe. And Ms. Official--who was all about the rules. Even though she allowed a CCHS player to remove his just before kickoff. So when she saw Stephens, she sent him off. Which i should be thankful that i didnt get a yellow card for it.

Not to mention that sometimes it pays to take a tues off--every so often. Just a chance to get a little rest and some extra practice.

No ruffled feathers. Just frustrating sometimes, not getting to play the better teams, because they fill their schedule with closer opponents. From something you asked earlier, sounded like you were at the match with Cumberland Co.? So are you a Chatt. person or a Athens person??

We play all who will schedule us--Baylor, Ooltewah, and scrimmage McCallie. Since we are soooo far, schools in Hamilton County tend to just schedule each other. So we play who we can. Not to mention, we do enjoy getting to play schools from both Directions. Sometimes we get the best of both--Baylor, Ooltewah, Farragut, Bearden.

Well. I was hoping to get away with one. Guess i've been caught. I was hoping to use it as as advantage for us for the rest of the season. But the maintence folks had to mess up my plans and get them fixed. Really, the problem was that we have to share electricity with the Softball team. We only had enough power to use the one side (home side). We dont have the overabundance of things like electricity and running water like you folks do in the "big cities". Hopefully some day we will catch up with the rest of the soccer world.

A reliable source told me that JP played in Chattanooga on Saturday against Notre Dame. Why would they cancel a Friday night match, but then play one on Saturday??

District 5AAA has it in our by-laws that for post season the field has to be 60 x 110. I think. Gives is a basic standard for all to try to reach.

Something McMinn County does is delegate jobs and responsibilities out to players. We have everything assigned--ball boys, scoreboard, water for both teams, etc. That way you as a coach are not spending time tracking down people to cover these things. Takes away some of the stress. Also, If you plan to sell t-shirts--have teams preorder them. That will give you a better idea of how many to order and you are not stuck with 50 extra shirts at the end of the tournament. Try to enjoy yourself and dont get too stressed out.

We have used them in the past. And we have done them for the same reasons--having teams cancel at the last minute. Of course, I feel that the A.D.'s should be the ones that do them. We as coaches have enough to do during the season. Also, when you do them--it does get the AD's involved, because it is dealing with $$$. I doubt that JP would have canceled on you if they were facing a $250--$500 fee. Best of luck.

Bison6. Be careful what you say. Remember--on any given day, any given team CAN be Beaten. On Friday, Station Camp was the better team, however I would not say that McMinn is not a good team. They just were not a good team on Friday. As for the match being a Cake Walk--you are way off. I dont recall your goals being anything spectacular. In Fact, the difference in the match was that your GK played GREAT and McMinn's three GK, well, did not. Good luck in the rest of your season.

How have you gotten in 5 matches already?? Have you had Spring Break? You must have played 3 matches in one week.

I just hope the Cherokees are focused and not thinking about the Prom, which is later that night. Who was the bonehead that scheduled a match on Prom Day?

So which is worse-- Having a team play keep-away and playing with restrictions--which can be humiliating or allowing your 2nd and 3rd teamers--who dont get much pt--a chance to play and score like their 1st string role models. Not to mention. What was it Bobby Bowden said to Lou Holtz? Its my job to score and your job to stop us. I am not saying 19-0 is OK, but if it was 2nd and 3rd stringers, they do deserve a chance as well.

My Boys gave a GREAT effort. Wish their keeper hadnt made a couple of the great saves he made--especially the one at the end of the 1st half. Because i didnt think we could shut them out. Hopefully, we will be lucky enough to perhaps meet them again in the post season. I enjoy coaching against Rick. He is a great guy and we are good friends. However, only time will tell.

On any given day, any given team can be beaten--or tied. McMinn County has had trouble over the years with the Central time zone and the Mountain air. That is why we play the matches.
