  1. THIS DISCUSSION GETS SO OLD. MAYBE YOU FOLKS IN CHO CHO TOWN WOULD LIKE TO SECEDE FROM THE STATE SO YOU WON'T HAVE TO WRESTLE ANYONE FROM THE MIDDLE OR THE WEST. YOU COULD HAVE YOUR OWN STATE TOURNAMENTS AND GET ALL THE METALS. I DID NOT GET TO ATTEND THE STATE DUALS THIS YEAR , BUT IN YEARS PAST I DID NOT NOTICE THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM IN FILLING ALL THE CHAIRS. IN FACT SOMETIMES THERE WAS STANDING ROOM ONLY. AND MY EXPERIENCE IS THAT THE MONEY TO PAY FOR THE HOTEL ROOMS HAS TO BE RAISED BY THE WRESTLERS OR THIER PARENTS NOT COVERED BY THE SCHOOLS. MAYBE THE EAST DOESN'T LIKE STAYING IN HOTELS.
  2. What is Kyle weighing these days? 121lbs. sounds low for him now. Congradulations, we look foward to his success.
  3. Big Tim Leach of Franklin for coming to region tournament after taking the ACT that morning and winning !st place. Bond Davis for taking the hard road this year by staying up at 160 allowing Heacock to have 152 and helping the team win state duals. Bradley Felix for coming back after missing his junior year to place at state. A for the look on his face when Kelly won. Mike Ortiz and Joel Konz for finally making it to the top. John Kirn for sticking with wrestling after giving up football. What a great season he had. And last but not least David Jackson for staying with his team as a JV wrestler because he loved to wrestle. Franklin had 5 great seniors that will be missed next year.
  4. This has been my question all along. It is a great injustice to the Nashville area leading teams to move them in with the Williamson Co. teams. Now they are suggesting that the new region 6 will not be able to bring 4 placers. Maybe the 4th placer should be decided by the number of students in the schools in the region like in the state duals. There has to be a way to make a fair determination or do pigtails at state and alow all regions 4 places.
  5. This post is part of the reason why it is so hard to get good refs in Tennessee. If I were a young man reading this, I would never want to become a ref. I know plenty of kids who have been encoraged by refs to put on the stripe as a way to stay involved in wrestling. Maybe one suggestion for the finals would be to get out of state refs to come in. The worst problem with this would be that their styles might be different.
  6. Coach G, this can't be true. Remember that 5 years ago Franklin put 5 freshmen on the mat and look how far they have come. This may be the time to step it up now that Smyrna is moving to a new region. I know this is something you have wanted for some time now.
  7. BuckLateral Have you considered applying for a job at the Tennessean. Any of your suggestions would make great human interest stories. Maybe you should send an artical in to the paper. It would save them time and money and it's clear that is their bottom line. By the way John Cross has some great pictures on his web sight from region V you could send in with your article.
  8. My guess is they will be updated tonight by Coach Peck or Ellie Chason. They are both pretty quick with the keyboard. It should be through the Friday session by now.
  9. It would be crazy for a state qualifier that has a chance of winning state to wrestler a regular match the week of state. I've known two state qualifiers that were injured and unable to wrestle state. The only reason to have matches like this scheduled would be for disicipline reason in case there had been penalty come up at region. A smart coach would have 2 dates on its schedule in case this happened at the region tournament. In responce to an earlier post comparing Kirn to the way he wrestled two years ago is also crazy. He gave up football this year to divote his time to weights and wrestling. He is a different Man.
  10. I thought this was a discussion on Pre-High School wrestling. Part of the reason the Chattanooga teams were better is because they have had a successful youth program. Middle Tennessee is picking up in this area and it is showing in schools like Franklin, Brentwood, Ravenwood, etc. Bradley and Soddy Daisy will not win all the !st place this year or in the years to come because of the improvement in youth programs.
  11. I'm not sure usually is the correct word. J.T. Moore has had a better team in the near past but not this year.
  12. I thought returning placers were separated in the brackets not seeded unless they were a region champion. This is not always much help.
  13. No one has mentioned Williamson County's youth program. There are some changes being made this year. If you talk to the NEW STATE CHAMPIONS you will find most wrestled future champions. The program in this county was started by Tommy Badon the Dickson High School coach when he was at Franklin High. It was passed on to Rodney Cash and Matt Oddo along with many other knowledgable and willing parents. Williamson county and the Nashville area prep schools do have middle school wrestling. There league is the Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference.
  14. Wrestling is the red headed stepchild and I'm sure the girls soccer team feels the same way. If you don't know, they are the Bradley of women's soccer(I can't tell you how many state championships they have there are so many). It is always tough to compete against the headline sports. The local newspaper doesn't help with great press.
  15. Kenny is a great wrestler and may win state, but don't question Kirn's mental toughness. You must not have been at the state duals.
