  1. The same Memphis East team that beat Oak Ridge last year is back this year. We just came came off of a sub-state victory against a 29-0 Jackson North Side team. Anybody that thinks this is going to be a walk in the park for Oak Ridge is sadly mistaken.
  2. A lot of people didn't see my Mustangs beating Oak Ridge last year, but....that's why we play the game isn't it people.
  3. I just wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate the Memphis East Lady Mustangs for the success they've had not just this year, but for the hard work they have put in for the past few years. I remember watching Mallory, Rudy and Jarryn play for the first time together on their AAU team when they were younger. The nucleus of this team has been around for a long time and I'm going to miss watching them all play together. Good luck in Murfreesboro Mustangs!!!!
  4. It's funny to read all the predictions on this post (except for CCP's b/c we pretty much have the same mind set) b/c each and every one of them has Oak Ridge beating Memphis East. Oak Ridge is a heck of a team, no doubt. But it looks like we're getting the same amount of respect we got when we went into Jackson to play this North Side (29-0) team in Sub-State. By the way, they're 29-1 now. That's okay, I kinda like this underdog role. We shut the crowd up Saturday at J. North Side; I don't mind Rudy, Jarryn, Ne Ne, Mallory, Mary, and the rest of the squad hushing up a few more people. GO MUSTANGS!!!!
  5. Once again it's on... First and foremost, Congrats to the Memphis East High Lady Mustangs on their victory tonight against a very good Houston team. A special shout out goes to Mallory Lewis who scored 16 tonight...you go girl!!! Up next for the fourth go 'round is none other than Ms. AAA Basketball Finalist (and winner as far as I'm concerned) Ashley Shields and Melrose High. This is the fourth time these two teams have faced one another. The first two were during the regular season and Melrose won both of those contests. Then, we met up with Melrose again recently in the District 16 AAA Championship and came away with a victory despite 49 from Ashley. This Regional Championship game promises to be a hard fought battle. See ya there! GO MUSTANGS!!! [Edited by MemphisEastFan on 3-6-03 10:57A]
  6. It was a really good game up until the second half where I really didn't understand Houston's gameplan. Early in the first half, Houston was finding some success dumping the ball down low for some easy looks. Then later, like brownhut mentioned, East started playing better defensively and got a comfortable lead. WHat happened next really boggles me. After halftime, Houston begins this "intentional foul" campaign and sends East to the line an ungodly amount of times. They were successful in stopping the clock alot; however, two things went terribly wrong for Houston. They didn't do anything with the ball when they got possession and East was making their free throws. Oh well...GO MUSTANGS!!! Up next...the rivalry of the city... EAST vs. MELROSE
  7. Ashley plays for Melrose High in Memphis. Are they a very good TEAM? No. Is she the best player in the state, ABSOLUTELY. I don't know the other two finalists and I would dare not take anything away from them. They must be extraordinary players or they would not even have been nominated. But for those of you that don't know, don't count Ms. Shields out too soon. The girl can flat out play and she's my bet to win! The fact that Brittany plays for a good team may hurt her chances. This award is not for the best TEAM in the state but the best PLAYER.
  8. I don't want to take anything away from any of those other young ladies listed below (I haven't had the opportunity to see most of them play, as I'm sure most of you have not seen a lot of Memphis players), but I would bet that Ashley Shields is in a class by herself. She plays hard on both ends of the floor, she wants to win more than anyone I know, and she's the most talented player in the state!!!
  9. True that CCP, but in both of those wins I don't think it was necessarily Melrose's defense that did East in (they are not a very good team defensively to begin with). I think Ashley just shot lights out and not only that, she had some help from April Eason as well. People say she had an off game at the District finals at Fairley and when I told them she had 49, their jaws just dropped. They lost that game b/c no one else stepped up and contributed (April was the only other player to score and she only had 13 I think) and East played much better on the defensive end. But in my opinion Ms. Shields is the scariest player that I've seen in a while. I just hate that East might meet up with her one more time in Regionals!
  10. In AAA, it should be Ashley Shields from Melrose.
  11. Yeah, Ashley is the truth. She can shoot lights out from anywhere on the court. I was at the game yesterday rooting for East of course! But it didn't even look like she scored 49 points. That's just how she plays, she can kill you quietly and before you know it, you look at the atst sheet and she's lit it up! Only two people scored a single point for Melrose yesterday, Ashley and April Eason. That's why they lost. As good as she is, no one can win by themselves. My East girls won b/c they played a balanced game and everyone got involved.
  12. As good as my Memphis East ladies are (Whitney, Tamera, Jarryn, Mallory), you have to say that hands down Ashley Shields from Melrose is the best baller in Memphis. She was on the same AAU team as the above ladies as well, the Tennessee Lady Mustangs. You should have seen that team in action!!!
  13. East should dominate the west, granted that Ashley doesn't put Melrose on her back and carry them to the promise land scoring 50 a game before she head off into the sunset to my beloved Memphis Tigers! GO MUSTANGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. I am predicting that Memphis East will do well in State this year!!!!!! GO MUSTANGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
