  1. I don't think picking Webb by two or three touchdowns is being negative. I have many long-time friends with affiliations with DA. Not a single one of them has ever done me wrong. Question asked and answered. Now go on up to Knoxville in a little while and take your whupping without whining.
  2. And probably a dry field. Webb by two touchdowns, maybe three. Fun for Webb.
  3. At the beginning of the school year, they had 615 students. There is usually some drop in enrollment the first few weeks. Ryan has aproximately 830 students. Guess what, Center Point caters the JPII home football games, how bout that for a concession stand.
  4. I am surprised that you posted this. JPII posters have been quieter than a mouse in a room full of wildcats. Ryan defends the Bishop's Cup for the fifth straight year. I think it is starting to sink in that the former coach wasn't all that bad, just didn't have much to work with, the coaching change has not made much of a difference. But I am betting that you truly believe the JPII has more than a fair chance of beating the Irish. And guess what, I do believe that. Bring a crowbar to the game as it will be needed to pry the Bishop's Cup from its stand as it has been sitting there for a long time just in case the Knights are victorious.
  5. No, all kids do not get aid in private schools. And Catholic schools who have the most private schools in this nation are not for profit. Its a shame anyone has to post this time after time especially in response to someone who knows the truth, but chooses to deny it for whatever reason.
  6. Keep traveling and don't worry about people's opinion. Your statements about the coach and her goals, results speak for themselves. As you can see, there are a lot of strange opinions sometimes.
  7. Perhaps he chooses not to mention any names for dignity's sake. I not in suspence. The situation he mentions is absolutely correct if the school chooses. It obviously is a private school and they are free to give any aid of any kind to a non athlete. Whats the problem?
  8. Still a dead horse. Yes any school Div I public or private cannot give need based financial aid or merit aid or any aid to a student unless no sports is part of the package. Any Div II school cannot give out non need financial aid to a student unless they don't play sports. Any Div II can give need based financial aid to a student and they can fully participate in all sports. I stated that there is no such thing as need based merit aid and thats true. That type of aid is purely voluntary on the part of the school and if it happens to be awarded to an athlete, they can't play sports. Some gift huh if you are an athlete. Why is it not need based, because if it was, the family would apply for need based financial aid so that their child's freedom would not be curtailed if the child wanted to play sports.
  9. Funny, but beat to death. There is no such thing as non-need financial aid. You must be talking about an alumni going aginst the rules and paying for a kid to go to a school. Yes some schools lack integrity, both public and private.
  10. Good for Zion, I am proud of them to elect to give financial aid where needed. Would it surprise you to know that in some states where the school is 100% Catholic still receives everything that a public school does, guess what it happens, just not in the south.
  11. It could be, but it isn't. There is only need-based financial aid based on the parents income and bills. Anything else is against the rules.
  12. I disagree, sorry. Parochial schools are Catholic and Catholic only and you know that. I have never heard anyone that has called Christian schools parochial unless they are Catholic. I would say that any private school other than Catholic privates woould be defined as sub-set, since the Catholic school system is the oldest in the nation. How could they be a sub-set. I still find it mysterious that you would post the statement that parochial are a sub-set. By your own statement, parochial schools are distinctly different from other privates. Thats my opinion and I don't like to be wrong either. Parochial is defined as of or pertaining to parochial schools or the education they provide. If you look up any listing of parochial schools in any state in this country and all the schools will be Catholic. The other privates are commonly known and defined as Christian, private, non-denominational etc. But only Catholic schools are called parochial. Yes, they are what they are. And once again, I have never in many, many, years of following sports and knowing hundreds of people ever heard a single one call Goodpasture or David Lipscomb parochial. I don't think they would prefer that either. I looked at all the dictionary sites you pasted, and it proves my point, parochial schools are by definition schools backed directly by a church. You may not know this, but Catholic schools are the only schools that are tied directly to the Catholic church and thus are the only true parochials. Other privates have a loose connection to a single church, but usually remain pretty independent. Davidson Academy is not affiliated with a particular faith, Goodpasture is affiliated with the Church of Christ, Brentwood Academy is a private "Christian" school, but no direct affiliation with any particular faith. Thats what seperates Catholic schools from all others unless you want to talk colleges and then there are non catholic colleges directed tied to a particular faith on occasion. I believe you are wrong. By the way, you are easily astonished. By the way, there is no controversy, I just happen to disagree with your post and continue to. If that is a controversy, well thats too bad. What controversy are you referring to specifically? Lastly, I did not have to double check since involvement with schools has been a big part of my life. What I find amazing is that you double-checked and still are wrong in my opinion.
  13. Fun for who? Webb Game coming up, beware, they are ranked in the top ten in all of Div II A and AA.
  14. I don't understand your statement about parochial schools being a subset of private schools. Care to explain your statement. Nobody who knows anything about David Lipscomb or Goodpasture would call them parochial schools under any circumstances. Parochial schools are Catholic, one and all. http://www.parochial.com/tennessee/list.html
  15. What about the rest of the team, did they play?
  16. So Much for K2ruth's predictions.
  17. What is your hangup about edits? I edit misspelled words which happens alot with me. What respect? In an earlier post, you as much admitted that you did not even know the Ryan coach. You need to travel more. This thread was about Greenbrier, and Ryan needs no defense, it speaks for itself. Take a trip someday to Ryan's gym and look at the state championship banners in all sports. It will take you the better part of a day to look at each one. Good luck in promoting club.
  18. Back in the day, Back in the day. Father Ryan has won two state championships during the 2000's. As to your comment about attacking players, you must be mistaking me for someone else, I have never attacked any player ever. Disagreeging with someone is not attacking. You whoever you are have just posted something silly and most every volleyball poster knows this. Just because Ryan is not at the top level this season means what, it means nothing. If you had any real knowledge of volleyball, you would know that. So go ahead with your marketing posts and your praise of two or three coaches and act as if they somehow by themselves took the game to a different level. Nobody and I mean nobody would mention any coach in the state of Tennessee without mentioning Jinx Cockerham and Ryan's program which she has led for 36 years. So please, don't be foolish, you are showing a newness to the state, haven't learned everything yet. Your statement attempting to label me as something I am not didn't work, as most posters know. Oh by the way, you do not know who are kids and who are 75 year olds on this site, no more than anybody else. One more thing, I haven't seen an underhanded serve at Ryan in 30 years, what a silly statement to post. There is nothing similiar to Ryan and Catholic, except they are both Catholic schools and thats where the similiarity ends, especially in volleyball. Over the last 30 years, Ryan would have wiped up the floor with Catholic if they had played on a regular basis, keep posting, because the more you post, the more you show your lack of knowledge concerning volleyball in this state. One last comment, ask any Coach of any program in the state of Tennessee if it is easy playing or beating Ryan and then have the guts to post on this site their answer and admit you are wrongggggggg. Call Brock at GPS,or call the former coach at ER and ask about Ryan.
  19. I think Ann is a good person also. But I have to disagree with the statement that she could have graduated from any high school and still be the same person. I and I bet Ann would say the same that Father Ryan had and continues to have a great influence on her and in forming her to be the person she is, along with her parents who also are devoted Catholics. This may be the last year after 36 years of coaching for Jinx at Ryan. It will be interesting to see who succeeds her, I know who I would like see get it. By the way, Ann also played for the University of Tennessee for at least one season and possible two seasons, I forget. She of course is one of the two players that I mentioned to K-Club or whoever that stated that Ryan could not compete with the top publics, what a silly statement.
  20. She got some of her skills from club, and some from the Olympic Coach that runs Ryan's team camp, perhaps you have heard of him Arnie Ball, and some from Coach Jinx. Having contact with Knoxville Catholic hardly qualifies your blanket statements you made about private schools and Germantown. Germantown was a perennial powerhouse less than ten years ago. Your statements about the privates are hardly facts, just your opinion and you can post it till the cows come home, still just your opinion. Ryan can compete with anyone private or public (not this year) for the past 30 years, if you don't know that, I question all your so called facts. PS By the way, is this just another veiled attempt to promote club. Or are you just kinda biased toward public schools. I think both and your response won't change my mind.
  21. Your statements about Father Ryan are interesting reading, but totally inaccurate, Father Ryan has and continues to compete against the toughest competition in the South. While this particular season will indeed be a struggle for them, they have won four state championships one before the split and historically could compete with anyone. Father Ryan does not have a middle school, never has had one. Father Ryan's coach is Jinx Cockerham, who I believe measures up against anyone. Your opinions are just that, your opinions, but don't carry much history or facts. Try researching before posting. You stated that nobody looked west of Nashville, I guess you are not counting Germantown with their 6 or so titles in the past. Or are you posting from this year 2010 toward the future only. An interesting post from someone in an area that hardly has any titles to speak of no matter what team you mention. As I have posted many times before, only a few years from now can anyone determine whether Greenbrier is a one hit wonder or not. But they are a two time state champion, and thats enough to be about number 7 in titles in Tennesse. Many teams over the years have had several great players and not won the title, just look at Anderson County. You stated that you talked to UT when you came to Tennessee and that the general opinion among whoever at UT was there were two strong programs in Nashville. I guess things have changed since UT has had two Ryan players on their roster in the last ten years. I do agree with you on one point, Siegal is run well by that Ryan Alumni that played for UT. Don't you see, I am just as biased toward Ryan as you are toward whatever team you support, the only difference is that I admit it.
  22. The Tennessean picks Knoxville Webb to win the state championship this season.
  23. "Against a school like JPII", what do you mean? They are picked dead last in Div II for this season.
