  1. Not only did you miss my point about following the rules, whether intentional or not, your reasons for number of players on sidelines is exagerrated and simply not true. You better count again at a Ryan game, many times there are 50 or more players on the field. I would call Ryan a traditionally rich football history, just not recently. You may think something else. The stats given in the article were from the TSSAA. And as I posted before, it appears that Ryan is following the rules. You are preaching to the preacher about financial aid, I have way more experience with it than I would like to admit. Your percentages are interesting at best, but probably inaccurate. I believe Ryan gives financial aid to athletes at a lower percentage than some or all of the powerhouses in Div II, thus the difference in talent level. Their financial aid is handed out need-based only as it should be, no other reason. I am proud of Ryan, we may not win every game or some seasons win any games, but when we do win, it will be with pride, honestly, and dignity. I was just informed very recently about an athlete who will enter 9th grade with a full scholarship, everything paid for, this was told to me personally by the parent. I did not mention gender or sport so no need to speculate. What school will the athlete attend, not Ryan.
  2. Perhaps this explains some of the differences in Div II football. An article in the Nashville Tennessean about Jeff Brothers and his new job since leaving JPII, is now head coach at another private school, I forget the name of the school. But the interesting part of the article was the revelation that JPII had 14 football players total on financial aid, and that Father Ryan had only 8 total. This was explained as the lowest number among Div II teams. I had to post this because it shows clearly that Ryan and JPII give financial aid on need based only, not to get a football player or a player for any sport for that matter. And therein is the difference fans. I was very proud to read that.
  3. Local leader you say, well I believe he will remain a local leader or less. Care to mention where he leads and who. Old Pirate, you have been through one too many waves as this post shows clearly.
  4. You do in Chattanooga. This thread seems to tie morals and quality of education togther, very noble in a perfect world. Having said that, what example was set when it came to light that Graces' star athleate had recieved monetary compensation, and that the administration had "covered up" evidence to that effect, and questionable address issues? I don't wish to turn this into an assault on one school, nor do I profess to know details, just that it did happen. I'd also like to say that I'm "on the fence" here, as the private school atmosphere sounds like a more condusive enviroment to learn, but it's not a forgone conclusion that your child is "doomed" if he/she attends public school. A parents role in childrens lives matters more than the short few hours spent at school, and valuable lessons are to be had in both enviroments that can't be had in the other. For you to say that"in chattanooga to have a great education you have to attend a private school" seems a little closed-minded(especially when the school that your affiliation seems to be with's character has been in question so often the past couple of years). Statements like "your child is doomed if they attend public schools" etc, are always incorrect. to use a particular private school rule infraction as an example against private schools is short sighted as well. There are two sides to that story as we all know. Yes, a parents role is critical for any child, but I might suggest that many children may spend more time at school than with many parents in today's world. For the parents that the previous statement does not apply, hats off to you, your child will only benefit from your involvement in their lives. I would suggest that no parent is totally responsible for their child's education or religious training. Looking back, many, many people formed my beliefs and values and many, many people were heavily involved in my education, is it not basically the same for almost all of us.
  5. I agree with you on that MPHS. My church and my family should be able to give my child all the Christian education they need. If not either myself or my church is not doing their job. I agree also General, MPHtiger, but Catholic schools are an extension of our church. So between my parish, me, and our schools, we try and cover all bases in forming Christian beliefs and education as well.
  6. Common sense prevails as Rick's post proves. The priorities of sports should be for the most athletes, not the few and far between elites. Good post.
  7. You may have forgotton about Ryan, but I can assure you that BA, MUS, McCallie, JPII, and Baylor have not forgotton.
  8. You're being a troublemaker. I know.
  9. That is true, it was found and used to line the new septic system for the stadium. Care to make a prediction of theeeeeeeee gameeeeeee, I didn't think so. But I will, Irish once again. If you have any trophy polish gathering dust at JPII, please send it over to Ryan.
  10. Daytime good to see you posting. The schedule for all the Div II AA schools is of course murderers row. THEEEEEEEEEE GAmEEEEEEEEEE is October 1,2010 at Ryan's beautiful field. Why don't you come on over that night and see what a football field should look like. I believe we are adding pastries to the concession during that game. We had to get a crowbar to clean under the Bishop's Cup due to it sitting at Ryan for so long. Ha Ha Ho Ho.
  11. I heard that the new coach has put on a straw hat and traveled to five counties looking for uh umm, transfers.
  12. Hargoo, Did that upset you that Ensworth desroyed one of your Rutherford County teams. Perhaps you should post some of your feelings about mean ole Div II. I see Ensworth played Ryan in the title game, did you see that Hargoo. Not to worry, if they (Div I-DivII) play them during regular season, it doesn't count, I bet you are glad.
  13. The thing about Jaxman is he never got personal like some people did on here. He stated his opinion as I did and never degraded me and then throw christianity on top of it. Now that is something that makes me puke. Are you saying that Christianity makes you puke?
  14. Interesting article, I guess they will play sports virtually also, maybe on a computer. Oh wait, this means the parents might give help, so a new set of rules needs to be developed.
  15. Hargoo, answer the request by both me and Rick. Explain and be more specific to quote you. Lets hear more of this hypothetical situation. Don't post a diversionary post, answer the request or admit you were out in left field. By the way, nothing to clean up.
  16. Sorry, PH, I'm completely lost. It seemed to me that you were suggesting that there could be no constitutional issue with trying to establish geographic attendance zones for private schools. It also seemed to me that you were suggesting there actually was some sort of constitutional issue with having a large number of private schools in a small geographic area -- although I don't see how that deprives anyone of an opportunity for a secular education, which also seems to be one of your assertions. This really doesn't make much sense to me, especially if the result of my modest effort to decipher it is correct. I too think he was suggesting that there could be no constitutional issue with trying to establish geographic attendance zones. We both know that is baloney. And now its a hypothetical situation he says he was speaking of. Deprives someone of a secular education, a response is not even necessary to this train of thought. I think I get the picture. By the way, Hargis, you don't run these boards and I can contribute to this conversation. Nobody is ever going to establish geographic zones for private schools, what a crazy thought. Private schools have no zones, never had them, never will have them. What is so amazing is that you come up with this in an attempt to promote your sports agenda, simply amazing. I like many posters criticize our leaders from time to time, but Mr. Hargis has made me realize that it could be worse, way worse. PSS Hargis, go ahead and be more specific now, many would like to read your hypothetical senario. You expected me to not understand your post, but Rick doesn't understand it either. But you don't pick on him like you do me. Rick has proven as myself many times in the past to be informed and knowledgeable with his posts, but understanding your posts are difficult at best, impossible at worst, maybe you are the problem.
  17. What does this mean??? I too don't understand this post. The poster will probably attribute our failure to understand is due to stupidity. It always takes awhile for him to give an explanation, I think he first has to figure out the post as well.
  18. Actually it doesn't surprise me one bit. I have never stated that all private schools follow the spirit as well as the letter of the rules, some do not. The examples you cited are good examples of this and should not happen. The unfortunate part of it is a low-income child and his father have some sort of future to look forward to hopefully, very unfortunate that it violates a rule for this to occur. As to the leading scorer at the county school that ended up transferring, I cannot comment on that as there may have been compelling reasons for her to do so. I do not think a child should be held back from reaching his or her full potential, but as I stated, I don't know the circumstances. If she was attending Gibson Co who I believe are very successful in basketball and then she ups and transfers, there must be a compelling reason. All of this is very difficult to moniter. PS Who is the private that you refer to as multiple titles in various sports and hands down the superior education? PSS if a student was denied admission, I find that strange at best, unethical at worst. All I can tell you is not all privates act in that manner if true, not all privates are alike, and they can't be lumped in a big bag as some have attempted to do. By the way, I do not give a hoot if public and private totally seperate in sports, although I think both will lose something. I do care about quality education, quality enviroment, and the building of the total person as much as is possible. Even if there is total seperation as to titles etc, we can still play each other from time to time, something that alot of schools enjoy, both public and private. Pss the child you referred to from Gibson Co can be described as recruited, but both she and her parent chose to attend somewhere else, or at least the parent did. Right or wrong, nobody has ever forced a family to move their child to a different school to the best of my knowledge. So any blame can be spread out a bit more, don't you think. But what are we blaming the parent or child for? For choosing to go to a different school where they must feel their future is more secure. Can't hardly do that. Or is there an unwritten law that states you have to give up your choices when it comes to choosing a school if you play sports, don't hardly seem fair. There are so many issues that have to be dealt with when this topic is addressed, almost impossible to do.
  19. I guess some private school might have restricted enrollment, but I can't think of any. Most if not all private schools want to be at full capacity of students. As to your statement of imagining a small single A private school in a large metropoliton area with a city wide all-star team, well, if you ever find one, please post and let everyone know. I think that is more properly left to the imagination than reality. Other posters allude that high entrance exams somehow would affect aid. All I can say is Aid is need based period whether you play sports or not. Your post suggests that hundreds of athletes in a large city are just begging to go to a private school, that is not even close to reality. The great majority of these prospects would not attend a private school if they were paid a salary to do so. So in my opinion, your opinion about a perceived advantage is just that, an opinion, with no real evidence to back it up. The facts are there is no private school A or AA or any class that has an all star team in any sport, if they did what you suggested, there would be several private schools with all-star teams all over the state, but there isn't. Its not because the money is not there at many schools. Maybe they don't have all star teams because they are moral and live by the rules. Could that be the answer? Emotions and facts are two different animals. In sports, the playing field is not level, it never has been, it never will be. One last thing, there is no such thing as another poster alluded to as zoning for private schools. That would be a violation of civil rights and it ain't gonna happen.
  20. Trader. If you go back to page 2 or this thread, you will see that Hargoo threw the first stone. Sometimes you just have to defend yourself, especially when Hargoo tries to lump all privates schools as being the same and or blaming them for the public school massive problem that exists in the state of Tennessee. I apologize, but I have to respond to that degree of ignorance. Ps as to Hargoo silly statements about missions, my final word on that is this: the mission of Father Ryan High School and most all other private schools is to help in every way possible a student to build a solid educational, emotional, spiritual and moral foundation to be leaders in todays world. For Catholic students and other privates also, four years of religion courses to enhance and allow the student to grow in their faith. That sums it up. That is more important than all the sports in all the world. Thats why enrollment at Ryan and many other schools is at a maximum, we don't have to search for students, they come to us. Thats why we send buses as far as Clarksville to give students rides, so for the students who otherwise would not be able to attend Ryan when they desire to do so. Its not free, oh no, it cost a few hundred extra dollars a year, but the student is attending, nothing at all to do with athletics. Hargoo doesn't seem to get the point or ignores it and tries to use sports as what drives a private school. That is stupid to say the least and bigoted when someone knows better. Didn't mean to preach, again I apologize for the side-road, I will try and stay on course in the future.
  21. Cool as a cucumber. You have failed to answer because you have no answer. That marketeer thing is hilarious, but as usual you fail to really respond to things you have done. It is extremely funny that you would accuse me of getting upset when someone disagrees with me. Boy talk about calling the kettle black. You fail to admit to any mistakes, instead saying to the poster that corrected you, "well thats what I meant". For your age, you haven't acquired the normal developmental skills of admission of wrongdoing, too bad. I'm telling you, better start posting about Siegull, they are going to need all the help they can get. And don't forget to give a great big kiss to the coach, might get the relative some more playing time. PS what about the Mid Tn Tournament, could you please post on the volleyball thread of the immense amount of damage that it done by being hosted at the Cool Springs facility this past season. Finally, go on back in your boro.
  22. Caught in a lie. You know nothing about me. Why would I be ashamed? I stand behind every post I have ever posted. But you can't say the same, because you have hundreds of retraction posts where you have goofed again. Referring to Div II as you do only reflects your extreme prejudice about a system you know little about. Find another hobby. Better be posting about the diaster of having the Mid Tn Tournament at Cool Springs again and the devastating effects of that. PS I said IF you knew anything about me. But in the past you have called me a women, man, AAU coach, arab, muslim, principal of a school, and a few others that I can't remember at the moment. What does this mean, it means you know nothing about me sir, and chose to post lies. I am sure Lipscomb did not teach that such actions are proper behavior. Grow up, you have had seventy plus years to do that, act your age.
  23. I am the only user of stbulldog. Stop making up lies, and admit that everyone, literally dozens of posters are constantly scratching their heads trying to make sense of almost all your posts. Does that not give you a clue that many of your posts are nonsense. Get your head out of the sand. PS It is comical when you coin the term IP and act as if you know something about my handle. If you do, then I must report this to Coach T who promises privacy. Any more comments about knowledge of my computer, I would like to hear it. If this is a veiled attempt to learn my idenity, forget it, you are not even close. And for the final time, I and I alone use my handle, always have, always will. Now make up another lie. we'll be back, what does that mean?, you and your second personality. Go read Sybil.
  24. Their goals might be right, but that is just a small percentage of the public school system. Maybe they are improving, but that would have to be looked at from where they are improving from. I am all for every school public or private improving. I never said David Lipscomb is not accredited, I knew it was. You are correct, nobody is exempt from having problems. But the stats prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that at this time in history, the great majority of private schools are superior in educating students. In response to your false statement about diversity not being present in private schools, that is a lie. As to your statement about an advertising budget, I have never known a public school to have one. There is no need, the students that are zoned to go there, go there. If it is a magnet school, the students who get picked in the lottery go there. Perhaps a trip to a few middle schools in Metro and observe the level of learning would be beneficial to you. You could then follow that up with a trip to a few private middle schools and observe their level of learning. Maybe then you could post on less emotion and more facts. And the saddest thing is I think yours opinions have sports as their base, which I find sad. PS remember you were supposed to put me on IGNORE, but you slipped again. Why DuhII, your memory is failing and so is your post. No mention in my post about diversity in private schools, and to be factual about it, you likely don't know whether there is or not. You just are a parent in a school. All schools are diversified I thought. Its the law.Very profound. By your comment, you think private schools are superior to Publics. In what regard? How would you then rate the teachers? Students learn from each other. Teachers observe to find the best way to teach their students. Are you saying that its not happening there? If your answer is no, how come its so difficult to have as a tool, students learning from students? But thats not the system? Does it not just get worse the longer students are isolated in the same environment? How are these as facts? What does this have to do with sports? What does this have to do with promoting a system that encourages that and then get on this site, which have at least 50% of that age group and tell them how bad their level of learning is just to show thm the greatness of yours. And what kind of society does that promote? I've got my house and you have yours and you don't learn from me unless you pay me extra to do it whether you have the money or not. Sometimes it may seem its a never ending catch up. And how would you deal with that, keep the tools away from the teacher.Just let the publics deal with those and sit back and criticize the system? Does it ever make you realize that you may be a part of the system that is creating the problem and public schools have to deal with it every day? Emotion? We've been posting about this for 4 years and the only thing you know to say is a ridiculous statement. That you are a part of this or that and you provide aid to go to some schools. And you have time to run busses out to the hinterland to get studeents but don't have time to go a mile or a mile and a half to pick up students that actually need your help and if they can't pay, write them off and criticize them. Its the American way. And not only criticize them but do it in front of their peers. And on a site that likely has nothing to do with it. Advertising while tearing down dreams. and you say you are not trying to reach athletes. What a mischaractorization. A recruiting society that everyone now has been in the system long enough to be able to figure all of the ways to get around the system "legally" only now its sport to see who can get around the system the best? Boys basketball thread, And those that understand it, the magnet school kids and and intercity Middles just shake their heads not believing all of this is going. Finding a way to beat the system. Thats what is being taught. So what does sports have to do with it? Whjat does an athlete have to do with it? What does the system have to do with it. Private fans are now laughing about it and in essence you. Admit it is happening, don't deny it and people will continue to push the envelope until its gets too expensive. Your post makes no sense as do most of them. There is one small value to your posts, they are so piece-mill and fragmented that a response is often impossible. Once again, I am not a parent of a private school student, that is a lie. Your so-called recruiting society is chocked full of both public and private high schools. I have never posted that recruiting does not occur, just that Father Ryan does not do it. I have never denied it. You make false statements in an attempt to create false drama, mainly because you don't have much else to do. Your statement that alludes to blame on the private school for the public mess is just plain ignorant. You know better than that, but you leave the truth behind in an attempt to make a point. Its your post that is silly as many posters over the years have commented on. What makes private schools superior is better academics, higher standards, better and more dedicated teachers, and the will and desire to build the total person. A public school can not do that even if they desired to. I know they are some good public school teachers, they must be the most frustrated people on the face of the earth. Your perspective is coming from a few Rutherford county schools, well the public school system as a whole in the state of Tennessee is deplorable. And I and no other private school backer is responsible for that. Tennessee ranks approximately 47 out of fifty states in quality of education. Get your head out of the sand and face facts, people are tired of your baseless support of a system that has proven time and time again to fall seriously short of realistic goals. PS I know way more about diversity than you do. If your life was open to view, we would see just how diverse you are. Private schools welcome and desire as much diversity as is possible. Catholic schools hold the distinction of having the first non white students of all private schools as well as the first non-while athletes. We played Pearl in the sixties, something unheard of at that time for both private or public schools. So your continued lumping of privates schools in a big pile shows your total ignorance on this subject or your sick denial of the facts. Try and clear your head.
  25. My previous post is absolutely true and his is an outright lie.
