  1. I would agree that Wartburg needs to get back to work. I am merely a fan of the sport and I am certainly no critic; but I have to say that there has been a noticable lack of intensity and discipline with team, particularly last year's team. I'm not sure all the reasons for this, but it seemed to me that at times those kids would have soon just been somewhere else. To me I never understand why injured players for Wartburg sat in the bleachers or weren't at games at all, etc. I also saw alot of throwing helmets, talking back to coaches, etc. No one asked me, but I do believe something's wrong somewhere....
  2. Really? I guess things have changed in twenty years time! Back in the "old days" it just wouldn't have happened! I remember vividly us Wartburg kids walking into a hostile environment when we played at Coalfield's rowdy gym! I often thought I'd have to use the ball as a weapon! Many times it felt like the Spartans and Athenians fighting instead of a bunch of Morgan County kids playing hoops! But, itis refreshing to see county teams sticking together-more power to 'em!
  3. The "OldMissGuy" post was great! It should be used on the "Food Network!" I don't know about basketball games, but Oliver Springs football concessions serves the best coffee I've ever had at a high school football game! Heck, it could probably be used in a commercial or something...."The best part of waking up is O.S. coffee in your cup,"....or something like that.
  4. The first post on this thread was worthy of an award! I guess it really hits home after you've been out of high school football for 20 years like myself! I also remember the experience with fondness. The crunch of the gravel under our cleats, students forming a"tunnel", future gridiron stars patting you on the back, even the locals lining along the fence to smoke Marlboros and chew out the refs; there was just nothing quite like it....sigh!!!! I guess Frost said it best-"nothing golden can stay." Hang in there young man, you've got memories that nothing can take away.
  5. Ain't it a shame that "the most wonderful time of the year" is over? I guess now all of us high school football fanatics will have to start watching "CSI Santa Fe" or one of the ten or twelve "Law and Orders" or....on second thought we can start counting down days now- how many after today?
  6. I was curious myself about Feigler. Any word on who he may sign with?I have seen him play and I think he has the ability to play on the D-1 level. Appreciate some info on this. Thanks and congrats to the juggernaut that is Alcoa!
  7. Trousdale fans-I need a little info. Can anyone tell me where Chad Evitts is now? I understand he made the Steelers roster a few years back and I was just wondering if he was still playing pro ball. I met him about 9-10 years ago and remember him as one heck of a football player. Thanks! Good luck to both teams this Friday!
  8. I attended the Coalfield-Cloudland game as a neutral party and I had the pleasure of talking to some of the Cloudland fans. I must say they were some of the nicest and most down to earth people that I've ever met- I really enjoyed talking to these folks. Kudos to both teams for a clean hard hitting contest! I'm sure that if tradition holds true CLoudland will be back next year in the playoff hunt once again.

  11. I've really enjoyed reading these posts today. I think that all the hype and speculation is something that makes high school football so great. I do believe the Coalfield-Cloudland game will be worth the price of admission! Long live high school football!!!! It's what keeps has-beens like myself going! It's definately "a kind of magic!"
  12. I have to say that Cosby played with more heart and guts than I've seen in a long while. I've no dought that they came to Harriman with every intention of winning and they came awfully close! My hat is off to both teams for one heck of a game and I must say I certainly got my seven dollars worth!!!
  13. FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN, IT'S PROBABLY JOSHUA JUSTICE OF OLIVER SPRINGS.
  14. Any thoughts on this match-up between defending State Champs? Livingston won by a lot last time. Will it be the same at 'Range? Or will Clarkrange show up this time?
