  1. What was the umpires strike zone like? Sometimes you have no choice but to groove pitches if the umpire has a plate with no corners. As a matter of fact I remember a Head Coach having a meeting with a young Freshman pitcher in a crucial game where the umpire was squeezing the plate. This Coach instructed the pitcher to throw in down the middle. When she told him she couldn't do that he took her out of the game, right Cobracoach. We still laugh about that game! Hope you are feeling better. We were really concerned--- for the hospital staff.
  2. Walks are not earned run! That kind of scorekeeping may explain the posted ERAs of some of the pitchers around here.
  3. RadioJet- You sound like a great kid. I wish our school had students that came and supported the softball team. But you need to stop and reread your posts. Coaches get to hear it all from the stands, and most times they let it go. If the Coach was offended enough to come into the stands to confront you over a comment, then obviously the comment was not as "clever" as you thought it was. If someone was offended, then it was an offensive comment whether that was your intention or not. Take it from someone who has offended more people with "clever comments" than you can imagine, engage the brain before the tongue. Remember even though softball is a competitive sport, these are teenage girls you are yelling at and are prone to be more emotional and take comments more personal. Coaches are therefore more protective of their players. You are just lucky that it was the Coach and not a parent that took you to task.

    Coach Conditt

Coachd, obviously you are a friend of John, so you should know better. It is the nurses at the hospital that need our prayers. But his girls from HFA will be praying for him as well.
  5. Shelby has been fighting a number of health issues this year ranging from Mono to muscle pulls to a ruptured ovarian cyst. Therefore I was very excited to see her get a great win over FR. Those of us that know and love Shelby realize that she is getting by on guts and determination right now. Good luck for the rest of the season and stay healthy!
  6. Saw them this weekend. They can win in a pitchers duel, or they can beat you with power, or speed, or by stringing together base hits. But the best thing I saw was their defense. Nothing gets through the infield, the outfield gets to all the balls, and you should seriously reconsider trying to run against the catcher. Overrated? I don't know how they would do against a good college team but I wouldn't bet against them against any high school team I have seen. By the way, congratulations to both the SD and Goodpasture coaches for showing common sense in not playing the finals in Cookeville. The weather conditions were not meant for softball (it was sleeting during the semi-finals) and could have led to some serious injuries after a long hard day.
  7. Not every talented player who decided not to play in college is wasting their talent, they are just putting their efforts into other areas. The best player from my daughter's team in '04 is not playing in college because she was also a 4.0 student who received a full academic scholarship to a SEC school. Let's not get softball out of priority. As much love and effort as we put into sports, very few of these girls will shape their future by playing softball in college, they will shape their future by education. When the time comes to make that choice, some decide they can do both, and some decide to concentrate on one or the other. Which one is correct? Who knows!
  8. It's a good idea and the points for playing in the fall are very logical, therefore it will never happen! Using logic on any governmental agency is a recipe for failure.
  9. Does anyone have a schedule for the Beech playday yet? I would love to see who is going to be there!
  10. You tell 'em Blondie. By the way, I think your name needs to be on the list. You gotta love pitchers that wear the #4.
  11. "Goodpasture is weak without Peroni" What planet are you from? Have you ever seen them play. Their #9 batter would hit 3 or 4 on most teams. I haven't seen every hs team in the state, but I haven't seen a better defensive team either. And by the way std, the head coach is solid, it is the assistant that drags them down!
  12. I agree with Coach Breeden, let this subject die. If the offense happened in 2000, I doubt if any of the current Coffee County team was even there. This has no place in the discussion of this years team. What has happened to the ideals of sportsmanship, class and competition? Come on people, pull for your own team, don't pull against someone else. Be a fan, not a fanatic. By the way, I am not a CC fan, not even from the area, I just hate seeing and hearing people degrade teenage girls, whether they mean to do it or not.

    AA Predictions

Who did Lipscomb lose besides Megan, and who do they have as replacements. I know they don't rebuild, they just reload.
  14. Are you kidding? High school girls practice at midnight-- you must know something I don't to get them out at that time!
  15. Still have girls looking for 18u softball in the midstate. Who is fielding teams this year?
  16. At what parks will the tournament be held. We are coming from out of town and need to know before we make reservations.
  17. Here is a piece of information that may or may not have any meaning other than something to be optimistic about. The Preds are working on a Media Guide for a short season. At least they think there is a chance of playing this year!
  18. I am aware of several high-caliber softball players looking for teams for this summer in Middle Tennessee. Is anyone looking to start a team or looking for a few extra players? I know girls that pitch, catch, play infield or outfield. Several 16u teams didn't move up or just folded. These girls can play!

    AA Predictions

In 8AA Greenbrier is the team to beat until proven otherwise. Their pitchers are back, they all played together in the summer, they are well coached, and they know how to manufacture runs when they are not hitting the ball solid. Lipscomb and Hume-Fogg should be strong. Station Camp could be the suprise team in the district.
  20. The tournament was rained out after the Saturday games. Extreme Edge and Austin Eagles Orange were left in the winners bracket, lots of good teams left in the losers bracket, so we'll never know.
  21. What teams will be in Chattanooga this weekend for the 16A State Tournament? Just wondering how good the competition will be.
  22. Has anyone in this area played USSSA worlds? How was your experience? Have played NSA Worlds for the past few years but have to make a choice soon. Looking for the best overall experience for the girls, competition and activities.
  23. In the 16u division the Birmingham Silver Bullets won the tournament beating the Twisters in the second championship game. Tennessee Rage came in third and Starz forth.

    8AA

Well the obvious answer to the original question is YES! Congratulations to DL for making it through the 8AA regular season and tournament undefeated. As a parent for a competing school, all I can say is don't stop now. Good luck to both DL and Greenbrier, I hope you meet again in the finals.
