First let me say I was at the game and was paying way more attention to the players than I was to the coach, so I did not witness the controversy. But after the game I was actually standing next to two coaches that had previous experience with the guy in other years, in other situations. Their statements were that it did not surprise them at all and was not even the worst exhibition they had seen out of the guy. Sounds like he has a history of similar antics. Would be interesting to know what the ex-head of the TSSAA thought of it since he was there.

Have not seen alot of the teams yet, none from the southern part of the Midstate, but just by reputation and returning players you have to look at White House, Greenbrier, and of course Goodpasture. But they all can't advance out of the District.

Yes- this fall would have been too wet to play, but so was the end of last spring season. It will sometimes be too wet to play in the fall. It will always be too cold to play in the winter (unless the global warming people are right, and then it won't matter), which is when we start!

I agree that you are way off on the AA. I saw Portland this weekend at the Beech playday. They look like they have a solid team. A couple others don't belong on the list: East Lit and MLK (or MKL on your list) will not be the bottom teams in their district.

Lacrosse is a "spring sport" so it will start in late February, early March.

There is no way John is MKIA. The spelling and grammar are way too correct for him to be writing these posts, unless someone is editing them. If you have ever received a PM from him you know exactly what I mean. He types his stuff faster than he talks. Plus, John knows who I am and asked a question in a post earlier this year that he knew the answer to long before he started the losers thing.

We had an umpire use the no advantage quote on us a couple of weeks ago. The others teams pitcher was stepping up 6-8 inches off of the rubber on every pitch in the first inning. He was asked to watch it. She was not crowhopping, literally walking off the rubber on every pitch in her wind up and throwing from there. When he was asked about it he said "she is not gaining any advantage." He was then asked if our pitcher who had no trouble keeping in contact with the rubber could start off 6-8 inches in front of the rubber. You can imagine what kind of response we were given. And before you ask, the mound was in perfect condition, no holes, no ruts, no reason that she couldn't stay on. When the other coach heard us talking to the umpire, she gave her pitcher some instruction and for the rest of the game she was only illegal on half of her pitches. The umpire probably thought he was being kind to a young pitcher, but actually he was doing her harm.

I can guarantee one miss in MNIA's picks for the day..... Greenbrier vs. Hume-Fogg. They don't have a game scheduled. Does that count against his record???

I have been hit by both baseballs thown from 60 feet by guys who would later be MLB allstars and softballs from guys from 46 ft (I think that is the mens distance). The one I remember as being the most painfull was a softball in the leg. It stayed bruised and swollen for six weeks. Maybe it is because I played baseball in my teens and softball until I was almost 40, but honestly I don't remember a baseball hurting anymore or doing more damage than a softball.

If you can post an e-mail address I will forward the pool schedule info as of first of the week. I can't promise some teams haven't dropped, that seems to be a frequent occurance this year.

If you play on a Nashville Ciy Parks diamond, you are not allowed to maintain the field even if you want to! Why a grass infield? Other than looks, a grass infield can take more water than a dirt infield. Lipscomb was able to play on Tuesday when most teams were rained out!

Hume-Fogg in Nashville has started a team. The players and the fans are learning on the fly.

OK- I have watched this thread for several days now, and both sides seem to ignore the fact that your are part correct and part incorrect at the same time. So let me give you the view from where I stand. First let me state my qualifications. I have been a non-faculty assistant coach for the past several years. I don't have 5 in yet, but I am close. To the horror of some of you, I coached the team that my daughter played on, and continued to assist with the team after her graduation. For anybody that thinks coaches do it for the stipend, they are crazy, you can make a bigger check delivering pizza than you can coaching High School ball, and stay alot warmer this time of year. Now if you want to argue we do it for ego, (including me) you might have an valid arguement. Do I think you should have a non-faculty head coach....... No. There are too many things that need coordination between the school administrators and the Head Coach that the non-faculty person does not need to be involved in ie. grades, budgets, scheduling to avoid conflicts with other school functions, student disipline, etc. Do I think there is ever a situation where a non-faculty head coach is called for...Yes. I know some of you might not believe it, but some schools do not have qualified coaches that are willing to devote their time to a noncompetitive softball program for what works out to be much less than minimum wage. Not only do you get to donate your time, you get to listen to parents complain about how unfair you are treating their precious daughter who is the next Jenny Finch! (Remember I am a parent too!.... you don't think I got some brutal questions from my wife when I got home about the way I treated our daughter.) The bottom line is this, in a Utopian world each High School would have a qualified, motivated, knowledgeable FACULTY Head Coach willing to put in long hours in bad weather for lousy pay, with the added bonus of dealing with us parents. Last time I checked, I don't live in Utopia. Therefore the schools that cannot find that qualified staff person must look elsewhere. Are these people threats to the Master Degree teacher who wants the Head Coach position? In a few cases I would say yes, but for the most part no. If you have a degree, and you prove that you have the knowledge, teaching skills, and love of kids and softball, people will search you out to coach their team. There aren't that many topnotch coaches out there. If you don't have the qualifications, it doesn't really matter whether you are a faculty member or not, it will show as well.

In other Hume-Fogg news, Coach Mike Caldwell and his wife Sarah are expecting their first child, as well as their second. Yes they are having twins. They are due just before practice starts next winter. Please keep Mike and Sarah in your prayers.

If you are anticipating someone you know being named All-State, here is something else you should be aware of. The only notice you will get is what you see here, on the TSWA website or in your local paper. There is no phonecall, no plaque, no certificate or anything. It was in the scoreboard area in the Nashville paper and we actually missed it. Someone from our church that lives in Hendersonville called and told us. They at least had a article about the girls from their area that were named.

These 5 girls are the perfect example of what High School athletics is all about. All 5 of these Seniors were great students, competitive athletes, and wonderful young ladies. Those of us that were lucky enough to watch them for all 4 years were the privileged ones. Their successes on the field will only live in the shadows of their successes in life. I hope I am lucky enough to watch those achievements as well. Thank you ladies for allowing me to be a part of your softball life. Congratulations to your parents for raising daughters to be emulated. I hope the legacy you left can be built on. Bullet- saw a 4 pounder landed just upstream.
