  1. No, Coach King decided to retire from coaching this year. I told him at the time that I would really miss watching him coach. He was undoubtedly one of the best coaches in Tennessee. As you said he won games time and again against teams with far superior talent.
  2. Sorry, sportsfanman, I still disagree with you. The foul Ian committed was not a cheap shot, he acted juvenile in retaliating against the Overton kid for his cheap shot when he pushed Ian from behind, but it was not a cheap shot. But, I do agree with you that Thomas' was a cheap shot.
  3. What Ian did could not have been interpretd as a punch anymore than when a person pushes off and accidently catches somebody in the face, and I still say if the Overton kid had not gone ballistic at most the only thing that would have happened would have been a double technical. Yes, Thomas, started cussing the officials after he took a cheap shot and they threw him out of the game. As for the person that said Ian took a cheap shot at the Ravenwood game, you must not have seen what I saw. He was wrong to do what he did, but all he did was bump chests with Nash. I don't consider that a cheap shot, a stupid move on his part and he deserved a technical, but it wasn't a cheap shot. Once again, most of what has been happening is due to immense frustation. This has been one of the most disappointing years I have ever seen for Brentwood Basketball. They should have close to twenty wins and they won't even break even unless they turn things completely around in the tournaments.
  4. There is definitely frustration on the team. This is a team that was picked in pre-season to win the district. The coaching has not helped. After the Antioch game at the first of the season, with the football players having about a week of practice, Coach Hatley tells the team that they are wasting his time and they wouldn't have practice the next day. Then at half-time of the first Overton game he tells the team the game is lost and they might as well use the second half to practice for the next night's game. With that kind of support from the coach you can't expect anything but frustration. Ian should never have been ejected from the Overton game and would not have been if the Overton player had not gone beserk. He should have received a technical but not been ejected. The two had been pushing and shoving all night to get position under the basket and towards the end of the game they were running down court when the Overton player put both hands in Ian's back and shoved him, when he did Ian while still running down court, came back with his hand and caught the player in the face and the kid went off. He started trying to get at Ian. It took a coach and two players to get him to the side and when they did the player started kicking chairs and going for Ian again. Mean while Ian was standing next to Coach Hatley and never said a word. The refs ejected the kid from Overton because of his behavior and apparently thought it only fair to eject Ian, too. If the kid from Overton had not over re-acted there would have been a double technical and that would have been it. Thomas on the other hand shoud have been ejected. He took a cheap shot and paid for it and then acted like a spoiled brat and got what he was asking for.
  5. Had to smile when I read that you thought the officiating mostly went against Franklin Here I was thinking it mostly went against Brentwood. It was a good game wasn't it? Both teams played hard and clean. It was a fun game to watch.
  6. I have to disagree with your assessment. I have talked to too many of the boys and been to too many of the games to think that any of them are trying to be the heroes. There are a number of times when I've seen them pass the ball off instead of taking what I thought to be a clear shot for them to be thinking of their own stats. I have seen them make a poor choice of shots at times, but that is usually when they are behind and somebody is trying to get something started to get them back in the game. I've also seen them playing totally out of control when I thought a time out should have been called by the coach to settle them down, but I've not yet seen what you have described.
  7. photojeff, what is that comment suppose to mean?
  8. I wondered when somebody would start a line on this. Wish I had the answers. It is extremely frustating as a parent of a senior to watch this team continually lose when the talent is there. Talking to a coach last night, he said that the seniors have not stepped up and taken leadership of the team and that the team isn't playing as a team. As a coach from the stands, it looks like the team isn't well coached. I know that we have gone dry from the 3 point range and Ian Van Horne is being double and triple teamed when he is down low. The passes are awful. We have had as many as 24 turnovers in one game and then we seem to catch every team when they are hot. Hickman County hit 11 of 13 from the 3 point range. That's hard to beat no matter who you are. The boys are just not playing fundamentally sound ball. Whether this is due to coaching or due to the boys not listening to the coaches, your guess is as good as mine. The coach I was talking to last night said that the boys look good in practice and then seem to freeeze up in the game, losing has a tendency to do that to a team. I just keep hoping that things will begin to click before tournament time. Thankfully, in basketball it doesn't really matter what has happened before tournament time. If you can win in the tournaments you keep advancing.
  9. Brentwood will finish at the bottom of their region if something is not done to turn the program around. Lots of grumbling (me included) about the fact that we were picked to finish first in our region and we look like a team that has not practiced a day this year. Coach King in definitely being missed. Apparently the boys can not run Coach Hatley's game scheme, whatever it may be. Frankly, I haven't figured out what they are supposed to be doing offensively (I think it is suppose to be a motion offense) and it is a shame because we have talent on the team. Our shot selection is horrendous and we can't by a 3 point shot. We had 17 turnovers in last nights game against Dickson County in the first half. Our fundamentals are non-existent. In the last two games we've made 1 three point basket. The boys are getting frustated, the coaches are getting frustated and the fans are getting frustated. Not a good year at BHS for basketball.
  10. It's over, but it was a good year. Anytime you can have a 10 and 2 season you've had a good year. I feel bad for the seniors to end the season with a loss but it was a loss to a good team and they handled the loss with dignity and respect for the winners. It was good to see the mutual respect the players had for each other, now if the fans would just show as much respect for each other. Seems that the people that only talk a good game are the ones that talk the most trash, too bad because it takes away from what the players have accomplished. (I'm not talking about any replies I've read on this thread but the behavior of some of the fans on both sides.) My son is a senior and this was his last high school game and unless he makes it at the next level this will be the last game he ever plays, as it will be for almost all of the seniors. Its sad to think this might be the last time I ever see him play. Brentwood football won't be the same without one of my sons on the field, but its been a good run for our family at Brentwood and as a parent I couldn't be more proud of Josh, Jake and Ian. I thank God for the young men they have become. Sorry, I know that's more than any of you wanted to know. Good luck to FHS. Let's keep the state championship in the county, but remember to take it one game at a time. Be seeing you on the basketball threads this winter.
  11. Some great posts and some not so great. I can't make a prediction on this one. With the emotion coming into this game anything can happen. I do think Brentwood will have a slight edge, but that may just be me wanting Brentwood to win. It shoud be a the best game in Tennessee this Friday night. Can't wait for the kick-off. Here's hoping Brentwood pulls it off, my son says they will and I have to believe him. Just worried about the offense playing consistently, which has been our biggest concern all year. GO BRUINS!!
  12. First I talked to Dr. Bratton after the game and he said he thinks the player from Antioch will be okay. He hurt his neck and was transported off the field in an ambulance to be safe. The player was able to move all extremities but they felt with a neck injury it was better to be safe than sorry and he was being taken to a hospital to have x-rays. If anybody hears an update, please post it. My prayers are with the player and his family. Next on to the the ugly business. Before last nights game I would have said that Brentwood would win, but if we play Franklin like we did Glencliff, Franklin will win it going away. The offense was horrible. The only bright spot on offense was Bruce McCurdy getting to play on second team after being out for weeks with a concussion. The defense played a good game, but we proably had as many yards in penalties as we did in total offense. If we made a good gain on a play it was negated by a penalty. Our execution stank. Next weeks game will hinge on our offense getting its act together and frankly last night they looked worse than they have all season. Sorry, I can't give a prediction on this one because I don't know which Brentwood team will show up--the one that played Dickson County or the one that played Glencliff.
  13. Didn't see the game, but it must have been and exciting one. Seems like that all we've had this year are either blow-outs or nail-biters. Congratulations to DC on a good win and consolations to Franklin on a tough loss. Good luck to both teams in the play-offs. I expect to play one or both of you again down the road. Hope everybody stays healthy.
  14. Sorry not true, if you will go back and look I was on the board by Monday. Didn't have access to a computer any sooner than that.
  15. Excues me, but I don't remember anybody talking to you about class. The comments I made were to another Brentwood fan and if you haven't read his reply you should.
  16. You're right and I apologize, that dig was uncalled for.
  17. If our coaches learned anything against Franklin the first time they will not make the same mistakes twice. If this happens Brentwood wins, if not Franklin wins again.
  18. As one BHS fan to another, your comments stink. If you can't show more class than that you really shouldn't say anything. I pull for Brentwood to win every time they walk on the field, my son is a starter for Brentwood and nobody wants to see them win more than I do, but your comments are untrue, uncalled for and show a lack of football knowledge. Franklin won because we got out coached, period. Do I think Brentwood will win if we meet again, certainly. I don't think there is any doubt that Brentwood is the best team, but not by 42 points but your comments are as unclassy as some of the Franklin folks have been.
  19. You had to have been there. Brentwood totally dominated the game on both sides of the ball. DC scored with only 45 seconds left in the game and considering the numbers DC was putting up before we played them I'd have to say we opened up a big can....Didn't realize that BHS was embarrassed by getting beat by a good team, and from what I've been reading on some of the posts by what some of you think is the best team in the state. (Don't happen to agree) Any team can beat another team on any given night, that doesn't mean they are the best team. Franklin beat us because Brentwood's coaches started trying not to lose and Franklin took advantage of it. Franklin was the better coached team that night. My opinion and that's all it is until the two teams meet again, is that Brentwood is the better team and will win if they meet again.
  20. After being picked to lose by all but the diehard Brentwood fans, Brentwood probably played there best game this year against DC. They dominated the game on both sides of the ball. DC was held to ZERO, yes that's 0 yardage the first half, and this was a team averaging 300 yds/game. Welch didn't have a great game passing but some of that could be attributed to him not being able to push off on his bad leg. The running game picked it up. Fugate was much better at following his blocks and it showed in his numbers. The offensive line did a great job all night in providing pass protection and holes to run through. Defensively, it was the best game all season. The defensive line dominated all night. Denton Casey was awesome. Darrin Majors a DB had his best game all season. The linebackers played their usual strong game. Looks to me as if the entire team is beginning to peak at just the right time for play-offs. DC was stunned by the physicalness of the entire Brentwood team and the fog horn was seldom heard, but the players and the fans showed nothing but class before and after the game. Hope they go on to beat Franklin and help us and them get a piece of the region championship.
  21. For what it's worth, I think Franklin will beat DC. I usually pull for Williamson County teams but this time I hope Franklin gets beat. I would like another Region Championship (even if it is shared).
  22. FYI, talking to my son last night he said that Welch was able to take snaps and run some plays last night. Wednesday was his first day to dress. Don't know what the final say on his injury was but Friday night the trainer thought it might have been his MCL. Looks like it may not have been a tear if he will be playing tonight. McCurdy is still out. Rebel27 why are you so determined to take all the credit from Brentwood when they win a close game and attribute it to luck, but when the same thing happens to Franklin it has nothing to do with luck? Franklin beat us because they were the better coached team that night. Our coaches started playing not to lose instead of playing to win, and yes Franklin had luck going for them, too.
  23. You can't have it both ways, Rebel27. Two weeks ago you were emphatic that one player would not make a difference at this level of high school football now you give Brentwood no chance if Welch is not playing. Brandon Hitt, if called on, will do a good job at QB and will have all his starting running backs and receivers and defense behind him 100 percent.
  24. If Welch and McCurdy are healthy and can play I predict Brentwood in a close one, if not then the edge goes to Dickson County.
  25. What a game! Wish it had turned out differently but it didn't. I think Brentwood proved to the doubters that we are for real. Have to agree with BDD about our play calling in the 4th quarter. It was terrible. Van Horne who refused to go down aginst Blackman, Centennial and Smyrna was only given the ball three times the entire game, not counting two pass attempts to him. But, in the end Franklin got the job done and I congratulate them on an exciting win. Good luck to both teams for the rest of the season and hope to see them play each other again in the play offs.
