  1. too bad greenbrier isnt playin goodpature in the second round...we could have had a repeat of last year...#4 seed takes championship good job gb...repeat anyway, just in a different order and upset white house tomorrow...
  2. The Midstate Ballerz AAU team was well represented this year in the State Tournament... Marquis Weddle- Union City HS- State Championship, A Mr. Basketball Jarvis Varnardo- Haywood HS- AA State Quarter-finals Jewon Long- Liberty Tech- AA State Championship Antwan Long- Liberty Tech- AA State Championship Josh Sain- Liberty Tech- AA State Championship Devon Jones- Liberty Tech- AA State Championship Brandon Evans- Liberty Tech- AA State Championship Barry Stewart- Shelbyville HS- AAA State Runner-up, AAA Mr. Basketball CJ Davis- Goodpasture HS- AA State Semi-finals Zach Frey- Goodpasture HS- AA State Semi-finals Willie Kemp(1 tournament with the Ballerz )- Bolivar Central HS- AA State Quarter-finals, AA Mr. Basketball I'm not sure how the Ballerz' players from Kentucky did in their tournaments but I'm sure they did well and I had heard PG Josh Mac from Union Heights HS(?) was up for Mr. Basketball in Kentucky... But anyway, Congratulations to the Midstate Ballerz representatives and to Coach Shulman!!!
  3. Lipscomb came out hot in the first quarter and went up 10-4 before Bolivar called a timeout. By the end of the first it was 11-10 DL. Bolivar played with very little hustle at first almost as if they thought it wasn't gonna take much to win. Once they realized DL had come to play, they picked up the intensity and defense and started taking better shots. Kemp stole a pass with about 3 seconds left in the half and pased it off for a layup to go up 27-26 at half. The third was pretty even too, and I was already very suprised to see DL hang with them this long (pain train...I was one of those people that predicted Bolivar by 25+ so I agologize) and Bolivar hit a last second jump shot to tie the game at 37 going into the fourth. Bolivar held a 3-5 point lead throughout the fourth quarter with Chism hitting most of his foul shots at the end to seal the Bolivar win 54-47. Personally, I think DL played and awesome game and shot very well and made good decisions while Bolivar didn't play to their full potential and only in the fourth did they finally pick it up. Chism didn't do much either until the fourth quarter where he got two hard dunks that gave Bolivar some momentum that I think definitely helped them pull out the win.
  4. I believe he said the best point guard on the court tonight, not the best over the last three years. Yeah, Kemp is better overall but Slater had a good game tonight and Kemp didn't do a whole lot. To me, it seemed like Bolivar took Lipscomb a little too lightly at the beginning...they weren't playing much defense or showing much hustle and they were shooting bad shots. Once they realized DL had come to play they stepped it up and pulled out the win. And DL was absolutely on fire tonight. If Bolivar had played to their full potential though it wouldn't have been that close. I was in awe throughout the whole game. I didn't think DL had a chance of staying with them but they played a great game while Bolivar was slacking. I know Bolivar is one of the best teams in the state, but if they play like that against Mitchell, it could get ugly.
  5. I was at the Bolivar/Lipscomb game tonight sitting right in the middle of the Bolivar fans and at halftime I thought I heard a bunch of them cheering because Mitchell got beat tonight??? I think they said they got beat by 1, was that false info or actually the half time score or what???
  6. I'm taking Bolivar in this one by about 25+. That is unless DL does a great job holding the ball. Lipscomb is down this year compared to the last few years, and so is MLK, so beating them isn't as great a feat as some might think. Nothing against either of these teams, they just don't seem to me to be as good this year as they have been, especially last year. Plus, I was really looking forward to watching this game in the high school gym atmosphere, especially since I've only seen Bolivar play in college gyms before. And that does take away some of the advantage DL had by playing at home, but the college gym is about 1 minute walking distance away from the high school gym so I would expect every DL person that was going to go to the game to still be there. The one plus I see in it for DL is having it at the college arena might attract more of the Lipscomb University students to show up so there will probably be more DL fans there than there would have been at the high school gym.
  7. And Station Camp beat White House twice this year........and Goodpasture beat Station Camp twice this year...........and all three of these teams beat Greenbrier twice this year.........and Greenbrier beat Goodpasture and Station Camp in the district tournament...........and they play White House tomorrow night.......so I would have to say everybody is EQUALLY rated, nobody is over-rated or under-rated.
  8. Yeah Greenbrier only scored 5 points in the first half against White House the first time the played this year, but you must not have read the part where White House only scored 11 POINTS in the first half of that game. It was a defensive game and very bad shooting from both teams. Now you may be right about White House beating Greenbrier tomorrow but remember, Goodpasture beat Greenbrier twice this year and GB beat them in the district semis, and Station Camp beat Greenbrier twice this year and GB beat them in the district championship...so don't say WH will beat GB just because they beat them twice this year. And coachhard, I don't know if he had a triple double or not...he probably had about 20 rebounds but I think he only got about 6-8 blocks.
  9. I wouldn't say your stupid, there weren't very many people that thought this first round would go the way it did with Upperman and Macon playing so close to White House and Station Camp, but that's why the games are played. And even though Goodpasture won by 19, it wasn't a huge blowout. This game was back and forth and really close until the fourth. But if you consider it a blowout than Greenbrier won their game by 16, only 3 points difference
  10. I'll be the first to admit, 7AA definitely surprised me, they all seemed to play really good. I'm not so sure the 8AA teams played their best (except Goodpasture) but they still got a little scare from the 7AA teams. Dickyv, you're pretty good, although Greenbrier's wasn't very close by the time it ended, they won by 16 but it was kinda close until the fourth. Good job to 8AA in pulling out the sweep. BTW, timbdp, you said White House should have won that game by more, but I think it was right the oppposite, I think Upperman should have won. Upperman was ahead the whole game, and White House didn't play very well, there might have been some questionable calls/no calls, but not near as many as the White House fans were screaming for. And I thought that was a good call on what you thought was the intentional foul...the Upperman player got in good position and jumped just a little before the WH player went up with the layup. When the Upperman player swatted at the ball he did it very hard...yeah it was a hard foul, but he was going for the ball and he did actually hit the ball so I think it was an okay call.
  11. Goodpasture came in as the #1 team, but Greenbrier #4 beat them in the second round. Earlier in the season GP beat GB by 15 in a pretty easy game but the next time GP only won by 6. Goodpasture also got beat by White House in the consolation game...earlier in the season GP beat WH 50-49 in a nail-biter and then White House beat them at GP by about 10. So it's not a HUGE surprise they came in 4th, yeah most people expected them to win the tournament but all four of these teams are too even to call. Greenbrier came in the #4 seed at 4-6 in the regular district season but played great basketball to upset GP and Station Camp. The thing with GP is not that they played bad, but GB played really well, and GP didn't really know what to do at the end of the game when they were down because they hadn't been in that situation much. And White House had already beat them once in the regular season so the 3rd/4th place game could've gone either way. Not really bad officiating or injuries, just great played basketball games by all teams. Personally, I have no idea who is gonna win between GP/LA. But I do know that GP won't get tired with LA running up and down the floor. Just about anybody in high school basketball can run for 32 minutes, especially if it's a win or go home game so I don't even think that will be much of a factor. LA's quick guards and good shooting may cause a problem but so will GP's size, and remember this...LA can't run the ball up the floor if GP is scoring so if they don't stop GP's offense, then they won't get many chances to run the floor, at least not without GP having time to get back. BTW, GP beat Station Camp twice this year by 10 or so and SC is an atletic, run up the floor, guard oriented team just like LA so I'm gonna predict Goodpasture by 7.
  12. Ouch...maybe 8AA guys can make up for the 8AA girls getting swept
  13. Region 4AA isn't as good as it was last year...both of it's sub-state teams went to the state semi-finals (MLK and Lipscomb), but there are still some good teams in this region. Record wise, Goodpasture is probably the best at about 23-5 or something with Livingston close behind, Livingston just plays an easy schedule, they are the only tough team in their district and they ran away from the other teams in their district. The other district, 8AA, has four good teams that are all equal to Livingston (Greenbrier, Goodpasture, White House, and Station Camp). You probably saw that Greenbrier won the district tournament and assumed they were the second best team in the region. Greenbrier went into the district tournament #4 seed and upset #1 Goodpasture and #2 Station Camp which just proves how even all four teams are. Based on records, region 4AA probably goes Goodpasture, Livingston, Station Camp, White House, Greenbrier. But actually all five of these teams are good. I don't know anything about the teams in region 3AA but they all seem pretty good so 4AA will definitely have to play good in the substate games if they want to advance.
  14. I agree, LA has just as good a chance as the 8AA teams, but I'm just saying if they lose as well as the other 7AA teams, there are always people that seem surprised they all lost, the people that didn't realize the difference in 7AA and 8AA. But yeah, LA is a good team and will definitely compete with the 8AA teams. I don't know anything about the other teams so I can't say anything except I've heard they aren't a match for 8AA, but LA is the only 7AA team I've seen this year so I'm not sure. Yeah, it's kinda funny how opposite these districts are when it comes to girls and boys. But I do know DCA girls are one of the top girls teams in the state so I expect them to win but after that I don't know. I would consider Upperman beating White House an upset but like I said, I haven't seen the other 7AA teams this year so I don't know. And LA going all the way if they beat Goodpasture won't be easy, they would need 3 really good "A" games to do that but we'll see.
