  1. Unfortunately it is true! I spoke with several people including a HL coach earlier about it and they are all heartbroken to say the least. As I understand it, a student transferred in from Glencliff and another school a couple of years ago. He came out last year and did not play because of grades. He got his grades up and according to their computer system, it said he was in his 4th year of high school. He played all 9 games this year as a defensive back. After the game, a Glencliff coach thought he might have played freshman ball for them 4 years ago. When the team got back to school after the game, the coaches checked the computer again and it showed this was his 4th year. They then checked the records in guidance and found inside the folder that he did indeed go to Glencliff in the 03-04 year, making this his 5th year. The HL coaches have already notified the other teams in the region and will file the paperwork Monday morning with TSSAA. I understand that there was never any doubt, when the ineligable player was found, that the only thing to do was to turn themselves in. I think that was an admirable thing to do, especially nowdays. It seems this was a huge oversight. There was no cheating or even a hint of a coverup involved. I was told they had over 150 kids, counting freshman, come out for football. I'm suprised more things like this don't happen. The coaches had apparantly gone over all of the eligibility rules with the players several times, checked grades, records, zones, etc., and yet it still happened. This team has gone from the huge possibility of a region championship to a zero or one win season. From the people I have spoken with tell me this is a great group of athletes and coaches. My heart goes out to them all!
  2. TraderB, He definately got "jacked up" by his coach (very uncalled for in my opinion). Then to make matters worse, later on, he grabs his facemask ( i could live with this so far) and rips it off his body, almost taking his head with it (totally out of line). The Melrose fans certainly did not like it either and I thought some of them were heading toward the sideline after the coach there for a minute. There is no place for that at all, no matter what the kid did!!!! Yea Stan, who was the guy with the bullhorn?? He was hilarious!!!!!!!
  3. I saw a good football team in Melrose beat a good young Hillsboro team last night. I have been waiting to see this question on here but have not yet so I'll ask it then...... Twice in the game, Wilson (who I thought played well) the quarterback, was pushed, shoved, punched, and had his helmet ripped off by one of the coaches. The first time was when he intentionally grounded the ball. He went to the sideline and one of the coaches grabbed him and shoved him hard, almost knocking him down. The second was more disturbing and brought much uproar from the Melrose stands. Apparantly, from what I saw, Wilson goes to the sidelines and a coach ripped his helmet off his head, there was some 'activity' between the two, and then Wilson was taken to the other end of the bench by other coaches and players where he had to be restrained it seemed. What was the deal????????? Is this normal for Melrose or what??????
  4. PTSportsWriter, There are 5 correctable error situations in the rulebook. 4 of the 5 deal with free throw situations. Failure to award a merited free throw is one of the 4! As long as it occurs before the next dead ball situation. May I suggest KNOWING the rules BEFORE you put your foot in your mouth? Get a rule book and read it, learn it, and know it!
  5. How many seats does Northside's gym seat?
  6. I have to throw this question out there. In this coming May, after graduation from CCHS, would the parents have moved back into their home in Pegram or stayed in their apartment in Ashland City? IF they had intended on moving back into their house, they are WRONG and tried to not bend but break the rule. However, giving equal due, if the parents have intended to stay in their apartment after her graduation, then that is a different story. Just wondering
  7. The TSSAA has no bearing on how teams are seeded in district play. Nor how they arrive about the seeding process. It is up to the PRINCIPALS, not coaches to determine how district seeding takes place according to TSSAA. Most principals don't care and allow their coaches to handle it. All districts have by-laws which state how seeding may take place. How a district seeds over here may not be how a district seeds over there. It is purely up to each district how they seed teams and what brackets to use. Conceviebly, a team could be voted out of the district tournament (never saw it happen before), seeded anywhere, or mostly done seeded in order of district record. All the TSSAA is concerned about is that 4 teams from each district, ranked someway, somehow go to the region tournament which specifically states how things are seeded, brackets, and everything else. So to answer your question ftballkicker, it was either the principals or coaches in your district which seeded your team #2, apparantly by a coin flip!
  8. Nice assessment of the game Dogg. I went to see two good games and saw two good ones (girl's too). Just a couple of observations: First of all, when the WC player (Majors?) rebounded the missed shot, he was a good ten feet away from the goal and his back was to the goal. After the obvious foul, he tried half-heartedly to sling the ball over his head toward the goal. I was able to see the referees explanation to both coaches at the scorers table and he said something about the foul occuring on the rebound and there was not a legitimate shot attempt. The second one said that on the foul he saw one point something on the clock. Since WC was not in the bonus, the ball was to be inbounded on the baseline. I thought it was interesting that both coaches seemed to agree with what the officials had to say. They both kept nodding their head and never once "challanged" or asked any questions in protest. After the WC timeout, with 1.0 on the clock, the ball was lobbed into a WC player just inside the free throw line. He caught the ball in mid-air and shot the ball in mid-air toward the goal. His shot was way short and the other WC player jumped up and batted the ball toward the goal, clearly before the horn sounded. It reminded me of when N.C. State won the NCAA in 1983. A missed shot, not hitting the rim, and being tapped in by a teammate. From what I saw, the clock DID start on the first touch. If the first shot had of hit the rim, time would have run out for sure but it didn't. In short, I thought both Beech and Wilson Central played well. I thought the referees did a good job and handled the whole situation at the end of the game well. It was a "fluke" play that ended the game. It was a great game to watch. Hats off to both coaches for their sportsmanship and the class they showed. I understand the Beech coach complimented his team on their good effort and said it was not the referees fault. Just several missed free throws in overtime was the difference in the game. I'd love to see round three!!
  9. I saw a good game tonight! Both teams played pretty well. I thought the referees did a good job tonight. They seemed to call it fair on both ends. It is not their fault that Sycamore kept fouling Waverly's shooters and sending them to the line while Waverly's fouls were mostly on rebounds and guard fouls (non-shooting). The fouls, on the scoreboard were even in both halves, until Sycamore started "intentionally fouling" to get Waverly to the foul line in the last several minutes of the fourth quarter. The referees never had a say in the final outcome of the game. Focus on the kids playing the game instead of trying to put blame elsewhere over a Sycamore loss. It was a good game, one team won and one team lost!
  10. Congratulations to Coach Romie Reed of Overton. He is a class gentleman and is doing well with the program. It is always good to see a coach have values, make his team play hard with character, and have values. He is the real deal!!!! His players will go far in life and on the court for having played for him
  11. Ok, here is the "technical report"! T1 - Ricco Ralston goes up for a dunk, missed, and was hanging on the rim with his right hand. As he is hanging there, the ball gets tipped up by someone and he tries to grab it with his left hand and slam it. Don't believe you can hang on the rim and try to slam it twice. T2 - Against Stewart County's Head Boy's coach when he came off the bench, across half court, and told the referees that they better control the game. Patterson and Reid got tangled up on the rebound, a foul was called, and two of the referees were standing there to make sure nothing stupid happened extra. T3 - West from Stewart County on the flop (fake charge) T4 - West again. He got mad at a foul call and threw the ball against the wall. T5 - Leonard apparantly said the F word to a Stewart County player, at least that is what the coaches said. I thought it was a unusual night but all appeared justified.
  12. Ok, here we go again, I went to Gallatin to see a good game last year, which I did. I love to watch football and see games each week. From an UNBIASED account on what happened, AGAIN, here is what I observed from the front row of the visitor side. 1. Game ended and both teams went to shake hands. 2. Several HL players asked and motioned for Gallatin's players to join them in prayer at midfiled. Many Gallatin players said no and went toward the endzone. Several HL parents stated they pray with the other team after every game. I saw several players respond and go toward the "G", but were yelled at by a Gallatin coach (tall, muscular black guy) and they returned to the end zone. I did see several Galatin players give a motion of 'go away' with their hands and heard one Gallatin player (white kid, number forgotten but big as a lineman) shout "I ain't praying with no metro team". There were also many adults (parents ?) on the field. I heard several yell for HL to 'go back home'. There was one older woman who had a sign waving at the HL team first and then to the visitor stands which read "Still Region Champs". There were several adult males yelling at the HL players while they huddled at the 50. 3. As HL started to kneel for their prayer, several Gallatin adults were yelling at the HL players to get off their field and go back to "Metro". They, along with myself, had no idea about the Gallatin 'ritual' of after the last home game. The parents yelling at HL apparantly set off a couple of HL players and they did start yelling 'Metro Metro Metro'. I saw several HL coaches, one tall blonde and also the head coach, jump in and told them to calm down. He said a quick word to them and they started to leave the field. 4. As they started to leave the field, a couple of Gallatin adults (one was actually wearing overalls, no joke) started following HL off the field. They were saying something about 'no class' and other things which I could not hear to several HL coaches who were bringing up the rear. The tall blonde HL coach stopped and motioned for them to go back to their team. A police officer, from Sumner County, was standing there, nodded his head, and gave the same motion to the adults. The HL team went to their buses and left. Conclusion: Gallatin was obviously dejected about losing a game at home, being knocked out of the playoffs, and the TSSAA ruling. HL was obviously upbeat about winning at Gallatin and playing for the region title the next week. Other than a couple of Gallatin players and about 10-15 parents, Gallatin behaved ok. HL, in my UNBIASED opinion, reacted when provoked by the above few Gallatin players and adults. Again, they had no idea about the post game ritual. And by the way, I did not see the 'stomping on the G' as a disrespectful act. It was an act by a team which, some would say, pulled an upset on the road, and were celebrating by being excited. NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS than pure excitement. There is a big difference in stomping and jumping up and down in celebration, which was what the HL players did. Curious question???? Is it common practice for adults (parents?) to be on the field at the conclusion of a game? I have only seen it twice in the last several years of observing games. At Hendersonville and Gallatin. For what it is worth, the adults need to stay off the field unless it is a special event (the last game ritual for senior parents is ok). I think that had a major impact on what happened that night!
  13. I'd be willing to bet that the Nashville Referees, especially the veterans that probably will be working in a region tournament, will not take and stuff from anybody in the tournament. From what I have seen this year from them, they won't at all!!!!
  14. Sorry wavdude04, its more like with 10 seconds to go, and Waverly up by 6 points, one referee called a foul on a rebound against Waverly. The second referee told Coach Craig to calm down and Craig told him his partner was pathetic. Technical #1 happened. Then, Referee #3 came over, trying to calm Craig down when he said something to the effect of "All of yall have sucked tonight" when he got Technical #2 and was ejected. The foul, and each technical was from different referees. Houston County hit all 6 free throws (2 shots on the foul and 4 shots for 2 T's). The score is now tied and Houston County hits a shot with a couple of seconds on the clock to win the game. Not too smart!!
  15. Hunters Lane does have Anthony Sewell (Tennessee) and Todd Lark (Cincinnati) but what about former Tennessee point guard Johnny Darden at Springfield?? May have lost a step over the last 20 yrs (or so) but i'd put him on my team.
