  1. You may be mistaken about who gets four qualifiers next year. Region 4 if you count Notre Dame earned 15 medals New Region 6 also had 15 medals Region 3 had 14 medals Surely Region 6 will get 4 qualifiers since ND had 10 Division 2 medals.
  2. Is Holliman going 130 or 135? Is he allowed to go 130 by the wt management program?
  3. You guys make sound like football players don't come out because there is not enough weight classes for them. Most don't even know the weight classes. They don't come out because their teammates tell them its gay or because they know its too hard or because of the "tights". Here is the way I see it: As a football player, you are the big man on campus. If you go out and wrestle, you take a chance of losing that image by getting your butt spanked by possible a smaller or less muscular guy. Many players don't want to take that chance.
  4. Being undefeated is over-rated. It can be devastating to a kid to get his first lose in Jan. or at regionals. Also undefeated could mean you haven't wrestled anybody worth a crap. Undefeated means nothing unless it is 5-0 in the state tournament.
  5. I think mainly they are letting us get used to the idea of the system this year until they get the website tweeked. They will probably be a lot more strict on it next season.
  6. Don't forget the raw meat, Bray. Mad cow what?
  7. Hey Bray, little buddy here. Kilby pinned Harless earlier this season at 103. Hope everything is well
  8. "Why don't you cry about it, saddlebags?"
  9. One of you just said, kids will start losing weight earlier. Good. You all know people who used to lose 6 pounds in one day or 12 pounds in two days- yeah thats safe. The program has eliminated that. You cant do it before fat testing either cause you won't pass hydration. This program stops a lot of people from doing a lot(not all) of the stupid things I did as a wrestler. It's not perfect but it is a start towards improving the reputation of the sport.
  10. Is there going to be a weight allowance at Seymour Duals and what teams are going to be there?
  11. If you think the whole program should be scrapped, your missing the big picture. I agree that there are some problems with the program, of course, this is its first year. As a coach, I like the idea that kids don't feel like they have to drop two wt classes, because you know they don't or won't drop the weight safely. You are more likely to be taken seriously if you provide practical suggestions for tweaking the program instead saying "scrap the whole dang thing".
  12. Jessica Taylor had a scholarship to Cumberland Ky, but had to give it up. Out of the few girls that have graduated in wrestling, that is a pretty darn good percentage.
  13. I don't know if you guys realize but these girls can get college scholarships right now. At this point they have to wrestle guys since there are not any girls teams. You have to be tough to be a wrestler, boy or girl. If she is tough enough, let her do it and have a chance at those scholarships. If she can't handle it, she will quit, just like many of the guys do.
  14. Milldo, You probably don't want to invite so many teams next time. And $8 is a little high even for those that did get three matches. And put someone in charge(earlier in the day) of making sure everyone gets at least two real matches(not a forfiet). You will always have scratches-don't just leave them in as forfiets.
  15. The other girl was Jessica Taylor from Cumberland County at 103 in 2000 or 2001. She had like 26 wins and qualified as a Junior. She may have qualified again but got pregnant which also lost her college scholarship. Proctor is a much better technician than both of those girls, but if she is over 112 it will tough for her.
  16. milldo, Would it be possible to set up the 32 man brackets so that good kids are on one side and inexperienced kids on the other. Since we are not going for medals, this way all kids get goos wrestling experience. No one gains from a stud beating a rookie in 20 seconds in a preseason tournament. What do you guys think?
  17. Two years ago, they didn't wrestle for 1st and 3rd. That was good because it would have taken all night. I would be happy to have round robin where all kids get 3 matches.
  18. I know this is not really East TN, but Cumberland County in Crossville has one on Nov. 20
  19. I applaud you guys that work hard on raising money for your team. The only money we receive is for travel like all the teams at our school get. It covers about 5 bus trips(not much). We have gotten all our money from everything mentioned except charging kids. We are now completely funded and then some by an annual golf tourn, a preseason tourn., and 1 or 2 AAU tourn. There are other ways to save such as not paying for meals(have kids bring coolers with PB sandwiches, water, etc). Don't go on overnight trips except region and state (have kids that go to share some of the costs of rooms-get cheap rooms). If I charged more than $50(I do not charge), I would lose at least 30% of my rookies before they learn to love the sport. Hey coach Bray ppka
  20. I'm sure the program will affect 103 and 112. It seems that most people under 115 are already less than 7% fat. So all those guys that normally lose 1 or more pounds to go to those weights will not be able to now. I think there will be a lot more forfiets at 103. Luckily we have an 88 pound rookie.
  21. Alcoa, it sounds like the only chance you had for going 119 is if you had around 8.7% body fat because it would have been very hard for you to have even 3 pounds of extra water in your body. 124 minus 3 is 121 and 1.7% of 121 is about 2 which puts u at 119. You definitely didn't have 5 pounds of "extra" water at the time of your weight in. Sorry pal you didn't have a chance but on the bright side, you are allowed to go 125 without gaining weight.
  22. Hey cloud, This rule is for people like you who lose 28 pounds. The way it was killed 3 college wrestlers who if I had to quess were losing weight the same way you do- too much too fast. You need to toughen up and wrestle 189, and if you lose the weight without starving or losing 10 pounds in water over two days, then more power to you when you do make 171.
  23. Believe it or not I think can be overhydrated and fail the test especially if you drink a lot on the day of the test. Last year a wrestler in a pilot program drank a gallon of water on the day of the test and failed. His urine was too clear.
  24. Someone said his wrestler weighed 146 but wasn't allowed to go 145 due to less than 7% body fat. I believe the way this works is that should he drop below 145 at a weigh in, he will not be penalized but he can only wrestle 152 that day. Whereas if he weighed 145.1 he could wrestle 152 or 160. This is the bad part about naturally being below 7%.
