  1. Willy...thanks for the props...that one came out of no where. I would really like for GC to make a strong showing in Bristol, especially after Saturday night. I think that loss may have helped those guys realize that in order to win the big games, you have to play 32 minutes of near error free basketball. Oh yeah...and the coach needs to know when to use timeouts and make substitutions. The starters need to be somewhat fresh down the stretch for games like Saturday. I don't know who made this 2 weeks schedule out, but they are making sure the guys get their workout. Good luck everyone.
  2. THS, good luck to you guys. Beatin Bradley Central isn't going to be an easy task. If Kellen Pickel goes to the bathroom, you guys better follow him in there, because he can drain it from anywhere. You guys better watch out for Giles County, they are improving every game and they are coming off of a heart breaking loss to Bradley, so they have something to prove to everyone. We (GC) are quite possibly more talented than last years state championship team...if the coach will let the talent shine.
  3. Thsstatebound...I hope you are right. I watched Bradley and GC play Saturday and they are definately beatable. GC had a chance, but let the game get away with 4 minutes left. If THS is to beat, BC, they will have to be able to play 32 minutes of hard nosed basketball. There aren't many teams in the state that can keep up with Bradley. They are lights out from downtown. You guys better glue someone to Kellen Pickel...he was the dagger in the hear against GC. He hit 4 crucial 3's down the stretch. I would like to wish all teams good luck and may you all have a safe trip to and from Bristol. I wish I could make it.
  4. Did anyone follow the winners bracket out. We could possibly have a Bradley Central vs. White Station final or better yet... Giles County vs. White Station. Anyway, good luck to all teams.
  5. We all know how much the USA TOP 25 means...look at Shelbyville girls. White Station - 71 Bolivar Central - 64 7 pt. margin White Station - 49 Raleigh Egypt - 47 2 pt. margin Raleigh Egypt - 64 Bolivar Central - 80 16 pt. margin... Ok...Opperman...look at these scores...do you see anything wrong with them...I do. Bolivar lost by 7 to White Station and they beat Raliegh Egypt by 16 pts. Raleigh Egypt lost to White Station by 2. From these scores, how can you tell me who is better than who. It is unfortunate that Bradley and White Station couldn't meet before the state...or could they...Arby's Classic??? I think that 7 pts. is a single digit...what do you think Opperman...that makes 2 single digit games...you should really check out the schedules before you make your posts.
  6. I couldn't have said it better WillyP...good post!!!!!!!!!
  7. Yeah...that was a three point play that shouldn't have been. You know, the only time Garrett receives floor time is in the blow-outs with the second team. The kid is a sophmore and could probably start for most teams. Yet, he never gets to play with the big boys. Who does Holt think will be playing for him next year. Garrett, Coffey, Smith (if he stays), Trice Nelson, and the other good freshman kid, and Zach Holt. 2 starters returning...the rest of the players must come from the bench or the freshman squad. Get these kids some experience now...it will reap major rewards in the near future...mark my words.
  8. Channing was the only sub. If we are going to win the big games, 6 players sure isn't going to cut it. Teams like Bolivar and Raleigh-Egypt that have depth into the 7 & 8th players will cause some major problems. There is no way we can run with teams like that. I thought the guys held up pretty good considering they played in Loretto on Tuesday and Father Ryan on Friday...I don't know who made that scheduling nightmare.
  9. NCS03...I couldn't agree more. What college coach would want to deal with attitude every day of the week, when there are more players with as much talent that do what they are told and don't have an attitude about doing it. I haven't seen Jamont play, so I am speaking in general. I watched the Giles County vs. Bradley Central game and let me say, Justin Hare and Kellen Pickel are awesome talents and seem to have great respect for the game. They are well coached and well disciplined. To me, it sounds like Mr. Gordon needs an attitude adjustment.
  10. well, for starters, when your team is up by 6 pts. and the other teams gets on a run and ties the game...call timeout...calm the boys down and get them a breather. They looked like they were going to pass out with about 3 minutes left to go in the game. Also, some of the substitutions made on sense. Channing Coffey and Wes Carter are very capable ball players, why they weren't allowed to relieve the starters more, bumfuzzles me. Shay Shannon and Givens looked like they couldn't get off of the floor in the 4th quarter. Also, Garrett is also capable of handling and shooting the ball, yet he only sees action when Giles is up by a large margin. He has as much talent as anyone on the team, if could just get the chance to show it. These are just my opinions, if anyone has anything to add or take away, feel free to speak your peace. This is just what I saw.
  11. Clay...I can't make it to Bristol and I will miss the BA game that is away, but you can bet...I will be at every other game. I posted earlier in the season that J-mo was a disappointment. He proved me wrong in the Columbia game. He has the height to take it to anyone down low...why he didn't Saturday is beyond me. If he had been a little more involved, the outcome may have differed. I don't understand how a 6'4 post player gets every rebound over a 6'6 post player with excellent leaping ability...wait a minute...I do understand...Suiter wanted the ball more. Until Justin makes his mind up that he wants every ball that comes off of the rim, we will still be out rebounded. He has to have the mentality that no one can stop him...right now I think his thinking is along the lines of...if I screw up, Coach Holt will take me out. As for GC making it to the 'BORO', I don't see anyone stopping them all the way up to the substate. Unless, a team like Bolivar has a fluke loss again this year and has to make a return trip back to P-town, but if GC is on, I don't think it will come down to a last second shot. There is still alot of b-ball to play yet and GC looks to be improving with every game. The loss Saturday night, should be a lesson to the players as well as the COACHES.
  12. Great post...that is what I wanted we were wanting to hear. #10 Zach Holt is a pure shooter...he took a couple of questionable shots, but that is understandable in a game of this magnitude...everyone wants to be heros. He got in some foul trouble, but I don't agree with sitting him out for extended periods of time...he knows how to handle the ball. Also, Shay got on a roll in the 4th quarter...Coach Holt should have called time and designed some plays to get him open...maybe just maybe, GC could have pulled ahead by 12. Instead, Giles County was allowed to continue their play and the result was a 16 point swing in about a 4-5 minute period. Like everyone else from Giles County knows, we have some untapped talent that must be utilized in order for the CATZ to win in those big games. Coffey is quite possibly the next star at GC. Deron Garrett looks so natural on the floor..he has a sweet stroke and can move like its nobody's business. Wes Carter...quick as lightning and can handle the ball. Yet, they saw limited or no playing time even when the starters looked as though they were going to die if they had to make another trip up the court. WHY?????
  13. I think as Giles County fans, we should all step back and look at Saturday night. We played in my opinion the top team in the state...any class...many people say that White Station is still the best, but I disagree. With that being said, we played one of the best games all season and the guys put themselves in the position to beat that team; however, some poor decisions from the sideline allowed the game to get out of hand. Tyler Smith stepped up and took control as he did in the Ridgeway game last year, which Giles County should have won by at least 5 points...poor decisions then as well. No one can fault the kid for doing what he does best. He used all of his god given talent, so to say that he was selfish in the last few minutes is obsurd...you need to watch the game more closely. No one else was getting the job done...everyone wanted to stand around and shoot the 3 ball...Tyler was posting up and going to the rack...getting to the line. After talking with fans from both sides after the game, the only chance Giles County has of facing a team like Bradley is at the Arby's Classic...no one in 2A could have come that close to beating Bradley. I think the thing that everyone outside of Giles County fails to see is that Tyler lets his teammates control the game just about every night, because they don't need him to score 30 + points. Then when a game comes along when he needs to step up and score those 30 points, someone like Hogbreath calls him selfish...you need to wake up.
  14. Yeah...we probably could have made that shot. Anyway, it was a great played game all around. How did we give up 39 points in the 4th quarter. I think 25 of them came with 4 minutes left in the game.
  15. Baconbreath...I have only seen Tyler abandon his team one time and that was in a scrimmage game in the pre-season. With 4 minutes left in the game, no one on Giles County could hang on to the ball...Coach Holt should have called time, to regroup; however, he didn't. Tyler felt that he could keep his team in the game...so he took the ball to the rack and got fouled...how can you knock a kid for that. He did what every coach would want their star player to do late in the game...get the shot off and draw a foul. Giles was not getting back in transition late in the game. Every Bobcat played great. Channing Coffey is the missing link...he looked like he was having a hard time in the second half keeping his feet set, but that happens. Givens had his usual night, rebounding and scoring. Shay...well, he got hot late in the game and the ball never went back to him...he could have hit 6 threes...as we have seen him do so many times. In a nutshell, both teams are nothing shy of great and seeing them both play in the 'BORO' is a done deal.
  16. OMG...this could be the year for TWHOOPS...he is one a role...wait a minute...no he isn't. He cracks me up. Giles played to their full potential tonight and it was good enough to beat any 2A team in the state. Like someone said, if it wasn't for a couple of bad coaching decisions, this game could have swung our way...but enough with the could haves. Both teams played a great game...one team played 32 minutes and won, the other team played 28 minutes and lost. That is all you can say. Giles has a big, long weekend ahead of them in Bristol. I can't wait to see them after the first of the year when they get back to the regular schedule after playing teams like they are going to be playing this weekend.
  17. Well said...Giles County was simply out coached. Channing Coffey could have very well been the deciding factor in the game, if he had been allowed to play. This kid has a great upside and still has a couple of years to prove what he can do. Tyler carried the team most of the way tonight, like a player of his caliber is supposed to do...I want to commend him for that. He tookd control when he needed to. Pickel and Hare are unstoppable...they will always get their poinst. I can't stand to see a close game of this magnitude get away because of BONEHEAD mistakes. The coach should have called a TO and given his team a chance to reorganize, but he let them continue to play...that won't cut it in March...when every game is close.
  18. Mad props to Bradley Central, as well as Giles County. This was the truest game of high school basketball that I have ever witnessed. Both teams brought their A game, GC just made 6 more mistakes than Bradley. After watching Bradley play, there is only one possible team that could beat them in the state of TN and we all know who that is. Hare and Pickel are the real package. One of those guys could be off and it wouldn't even matter. Also, I don't believe there is a more talented team in AA than Giles County. However, we lack coaching to get us through those close games, as it showed tonight and that is really sad. Tyler had his best game thus far, in a game that GC had a chance to win and coaching beat them. Anyway, I am done ranting and raving...good game.
  19. Well, you guys may be right...this is just my thoughts on the season thus far. It has nothing to do with last year. Look at Shelbyville girls...they were ranked #1...lost three games and dropped completely out of the top 25 nationally. Why didn't they stay ranked until the end of the year when the season is over. Starting out the season, I would have ranked GC #1...they had a couple of hard losses and didn't have a real strong showing until the Spring Hill game. In the meantime, Raleigh-Egypt won the same tournament that Giles County was eliminated from. Bolivar has already beaten some very very good teams. I am not saying when it is all said and done, Giles County won't be on top...I hope they are, but right now, there a couple of other AA teams that are playing tougher competition and they are surviving. Tonight will be the first real test for Giles County...they could possibly have their TN winning streak ended by a very very good Bradley team. I hope not, but if they don't bring their game, they will get beat...no doubt about it.
  20. Yup...good ole Cash Money is still there and going strong.
  21. Having seen White Station play only one time, my impression was that they looked like a college team. Fundamentally sound at every position. I do believe that Bradley is probably the best team in the state, for the simple fact that they lost no one from last year. White Station lost Bradshaw, but they are still in very good shape. Last years White Station team could have beaten Giles County by 20+...I don't know about this year, but the Bradley game tonight should be a good indication of how we would fair against them. My top six teams in the state would look something like this...no regards to classification. 1)Bradley Central 2)White Station 3)Raleigh Egypt 4)Giles County 5)Jackson North Side 6)Bolivar
  22. Wade, I will probably get there around 5:00...I have 3 reserved seats, so I should be in good shape. All of the lower seats are great, so I shouldn't have a bad seat.
  23. I checked on the webcast and it does appear that you can listen to 98.3 via. the web. Might just have to give it a try if you can't make it to the game and you can't pick up the station.
  24. Yes, it will be on 98.3 in Pulaski. I would also imagine that you can hear the game via. webcast from www.wksr.com. Don't quote me on the last part...that is just my guess. I know you can hear it on the station.
