  1. Mount Vernon, IN is expanding our opening weekend turkey classic duals. We will run 5 mats and expand from 10 teams to at least 12. We are looking for teams not in our local area. The dates are November 27th and 28th. Weigh-ins are 11:00am Friday and 8:00 Saturday. Each team will get 4 duals each day. The competition level isn't world class, but it is great to get 8 matches to knock off the rust. As far as travel, Mount Vernon is about 2 hours north of Clarksville. Send inquiries to gilpinst@msdmv.k12.in.us. We will fill it quickly as the same post is going on the KY and IL boards.
  2. E-mail me gilpinst@msdmv.k12.in.us I would like info on your JV yourney please.
  3. Indiana has a 250 mile rule that says we cannot compete against anyone more than 300 miles away from our state line. We cannot even meet somewhere within 250 miles to compete. Silly rule, but they really restrict travel. Most of Tennesse is legal, but North Carolina is not.
  4. Mount Vernon High School in Indiana is looking for a Holiday tourney or duals. Or looking for a 1 day event on Jan. 10th.

  7. No, you are trying to be difficult. I stated that all of the scoring was listed. You are saying I am wrong because 103 and 112 are not list. I stand by my original statement. All of the scoring is listed. Now your turn to tell me why I am still right.
  8. All of the scoring was listed. Thaks for reminding all of us that their are 14 classes BCB. We only like to use 12. Makes for lower scoring matches. And we all know defense wins championships. Ask the 85 Bears.

  17. In the last 4 years I never knew that Houston hosted the Blackhorse and attended the Kenwood Klassic(now the Sycamore Invite). Therefore, I have no idea how you could made such an uninformed comment. If you are referrering to our Dual event, then yes I will juggle my line-up however I see fit in order for my team to have the best chance of winning. I am sure you missed the fact my 275 was carried out on a stretcher the match before we wrestled. I bumped from 171 up to fill in all of my weight classes. I did have another 171 a freshman that had been wrestling for 6 weeks. I am sorry that you feel like I owed your kid a match against a 6 week wrestler. I do what I feel is best for my team and you get to do what you feel is best for yours. Number of division 1 state placers Sycamore wrestled in 2005-2006, 15. Number of state placers forfeited to 1. Number of division 2 state placers wrestled 18. Number of D2 placers forfeited to 0. Once again, I am sorry you feel like I cheated your kid out of valuable match time against the weakest of competition. I,however, am not sorry that I bumped my line-up around your stud in order for my team to win the dual. In a dual, my job is to find the line-up that best gives me a chance to win. If you want to continue this you have my e-mail.
  18. Sycamore has a few openings on Dec. 2nd for an individual pool tourney. This guarentee 3-5 matches for all of your wrestlers. Weigh-in is at 8 and wrestling will begin promptly at 9:00. Pool sizes will depend on number of teams. Typically we run 4 pools of 4. This event is ran to maximize the mat time for your less experienced wrestlers. We will get them as many matches as possible early in the season. E-mail Coachgilpin@hotmail.com for more info or to confirm a spot.
  19. The answer varies depending on you past history and where you currently sit. After growing up in Indiana and having over 340 wrestling programs and 1 state champion and only 16 qualifiers I once believed that it was the only way to have a championship mean something. Then seeing that all other sports in Tennessee have a spilt and muliple champions I wondered why people feel so strongly about one class for wrestling. I don't hear that cry in golf, tennis, bowling, track and field, cross county, or any team sports. Do I think the sport will grow with a small school state? Yes and no. There will be an increase in small school participation, but overall that will not make a large push in increasing the sport. I would expect a 5-10% increase in participation for small schools. That would equate to about 2-5 new wrestlers per small school currently 47. So about 200 new wreslters. Then you have to argue quality of new wrestlers. Will it turn Tennesssee into a nation power.? No. Indiana and Tennessee have nearly identical Populations, but Indiana has well over twice as many programs. Maybe small schools will add wrestling if they feel they can compete both on the dual and individual level. That is very unlikely as there is currently a shortage of coaches even in wreslting cities, let alone rural communties that would need a coach for a new program. I am for a small school individual state tourney more on a basis of fair market share than growing the sport. Do a little research on the A-AA teams minus Notre Dame (since they haven't earned any D1 medals) and see if A-AA brings home 37% of the D1 medals. They make up 37% of the schools. There are many factors in why A-AA doesn't bring home the number of medals equal to the % of participants. None of these are the fault of the wrestlers of these schools. They do the best they can with the facilities, support, coaching, parents, practice partners, and general lack of support that they can do. Yet they are considered equals. The only non-class sport in the state. Can a small school wrestler win state? Yes it happens about once a year. % wise you would expect 4-5 Champions a year yet they earn one. It just makes sense to me that if it is accepted that individual sports are split by class, then it should be accepted and embraced by all small schools that they have their own state tournament against those schools that face their same obstacles.
  20. Sycamore will host our annual 16 man pool tourney on the first Saturday in December or December 3rd, 2006. All schools that participated last year are welcomed back. We will take the teams from the waiting list starting April 1st. If you confirmed with us already please do so again just to make certain I have it. We always start on time and run it as quick as possible to ensure being done early. We were done by 6:30 last year. All wrestlers are guarenteed 3 matches and those that win their pool will get 5 matches. Please confirm here or e-mail Coachgilpin@hotmail.com.
  21. War Eagle Duals at Sycamore will be Wednesday, December 27th 2006. This will be limited to 12 teams with all teams guarenteed 4 matches. It will be ran on 4 mats and like all of our past tourneys we start on time, have a gret spread of food and finish before 7pm. 22. This team won one dual last year. What an amzing job these kids have done this year. I am proud of each and every one of them. They worked harder than any group of kids I have coached. They earned every bit of what they achieved. Good luck to my former wrestlers at Kenwood on you bid for a state trip this week.
