  1. A slight correction to the above, Sam Herring took 5th place this year.
  2. I think cbg got it right, the titles tend to run in cycles, though there have been some really great teams (nationally ranked) and some programs that have been historically strong. CBHS was in the D2 dual finals four years in a row 2010-2013. Lot of respect for the Purple from Nashville (outstanding team this year), but also know there is more than one perspective to last November. Had nothing to do with anyone running from anything.
  3. I did not have a vote, but agree with the decision. This was supposed to be an event between the programs and schools. Father Ryan de-escalated the event with no communication. Go back a few years and CBHS was "beating the crap" out of FR and the rest of the state. That kind of fun is worth traveling a couple hundred miles for The only thing we can agree on is that the ribs are great down here!
  4. What is meant by modified freestyle above? Is this a folkstyle or freestyle tournament?
  5. Congratulations to the Dickson County coaches and parents for a well run tournament. Region 5 had the second largest number of competitors in the State, only Region 2 (Chattanooga) was larger!
  6. Here is post below when Tony Bradley was inducted into the TN hall of fame... thoughtiwonit Members 7 posts Posted 19 October 2009 - 10:23 PM I wrestled for Tony Bradley at germantown, and I don't know if there is a better coach. Granted he doesn't have state champs every year like a Steve Henry or Gordon Connell, but the man invests in the kids he coaches. Apparently the fact he is getting inducted into the HOF hasn't even been announced at his school, which shows the way west TN feels about wrestling. I love the man. I am twenty-four years old and now coaching, and I still can't call him anything but Coach Bradley. I don't know if I could have gotten through high school without him. As for a funny story I can't think of one off the top of my head; what I do remember is that you had better pay attention when he was giving instruction, because if you didn't he would "wrestle" with you. Coach Bradley wasn't much on yelling, but after he broke you, you payed attention Here's Coach Bradley's bio from a couple of years ago, the state placers is probably closer to 50 now. Tony Bradley G-Town coach 29yrs. Record 349-157-4 Region champs 8yrs 43 state placers 3 State champs Coach of yr 6 times Wrestling Hall of Fame 09 Impressive numbers! Not saying that West TN wrestling does not need to improve, it does, some of the Region 8 brackets were scary in terms of the low numbers of participation. But you asked what Coach Bradley has done and here it is. Have to give credit for accomplishments.
  7. 2blLeg may be old, but he has another great wrestler working his way through the Wave program that placed in the AAU state last year. He will be on these boards for a while.
  8. Actually, Ghouse raised something important safety issue and you attacked him and then tried to distract with extraneous things. Not trying to win a popularity contest, but our wrestlers are taught to wrestle as hard as they can all the time regardless of the competition, preparing for the next level. and if you are pushing that hard it will likely take you over the line occasionally. Cleveland has a great program and respect the coaches, wrestlers and parents. We've beaten them 4 times in the last two year either in duals or at tournaments, but knowing that program they'll comeback at us.
  9. quote name='heresyourstupidsign' timestamp='1360226582' post='2944907'] No, more than one Baylor parent told me that the wrestler had not been cleared to wrestle. I could name several names, but won't. It doesn't get any straighter than that. I agree, "I would think the Baylor staff, the wrestler or his parents wouldnt put him out there if they werent all ok with it." We have the video (its on the team Hudl account) and Ghouse has gone back over it several times and it clearly was not an illegal move. It appears you saw it once from the crowd. No one thinks it was a "well orchestrated pre-planned maneuver by that many people to gain an advantage?" but they put a wrestler in a bad position and then capitalized when the opportunity arose. Hopefully, it never happens again and is good reminder to every coach. I suggest you drop the personal attacks on Ghouse. Opposing coaches often come up and ask his opinion on rule interpretations, non-CBHS wrestlers often find him at national tournaments and ask him to coach them (because they know how good he is at what he does-one of your team's wrestlers may be in that position some day because I have seen Baylor and FR guys do that in the past) and his rankings are often used to seed high school tournaments. Ghouse is a coach that dedicates thousands of hours to developing wrestlers that aren't his son. He puts himself out there. What do you do? Frustrating when people sit in the cheap seats and make ridiculous comments. Quit being offended by the well written, studied and thorough posts and just try to learn despite the big words. You obviously need the help.
  10. That's funny. No need to respond to the, "he tries to persuade someone" quote, 2Leg already hit that and gave you a sign. On the second comment, help me to understand your logic. I think you are saying that ghouse should not point out something that the Baylor coaches did which was clearly irresponible and put a young man at risk, because of they way a CBHS wrestler approaches a match or wrestler. Comparing the actions of a coaching staff to 14-18 year old wrestlers? "Then you have a wrestler who many in the state view as being the dirtiest wrestler in years who constantly appears to be over zealous in his physicality and just got kicked out of a match for it." I assume that you are talking about KB, who has now been kicked out of one match in four years, actually in the years I have watched him, one match in 10 years. CBHS wrestles hard all the time and not down to the level of competition. You probably need to watch a few Iowa Hawkeye matches or practices, they will push an opponent or teammate all over the mat or off of it to get the other man to wrestle. Our wrestlers do three takedowns and a pin against lesser competition, because they don't want to embarrass the other team. I have never seen anyone condone or support dirty wrestling and believe you'll see less of this from CBHS than about any other team in the state. KB and Oliver were both still in the practice room tonight an hour after the high school practice working and KB stayed longer because a middle school wrestler asked him a technique question. These are exceptional young men at a time when society does not help much. Maybe you ought to wait before throwing rocks at what is currently the best program in the state and some of the best young men. An example of something from this past weekend that was likely illegal. In the d2 finals at 126, the CBHS wrestler jumped out to a lead, the FR wrestler responded, he was going at it and wrestling physical. He led with his head a couple of times and gave the CBHS wrestler a nice jolt. Wasn't called, but I respect the FR 126 for fighting back and getting physical. If it doesn't make you a little upset that someone is beating you or in on a deep shot, then you probably aren't going to make it in college wrestling. You could call that dirty wrestling, but I think he was responding and appreciate it.
  11. No one is crying or whining about a match. Ghouse responded, based on the statements of Baylor's own parents that they put a wrestler on the mat, who had not practiced in months. That's irresponsible in any book, no matter how much the young man wants compete. At least someone is willing to call it what it was, WRONG! A lot of parents and coaches lost respect for that move. Also the move of the CBHS wrestler was completely legal and run perpendicular to the body. He was driving the half, what were you watching???
  12. No kidding. Time to move on and focus on a couple of weeks from now.
  13. Did you not read the posts above? They don't even shake hands at most NCAA matches. Hey, if you can't beat them try to discredit them right? Really, you are not doing much for your alma mater right now. Stick to congratulations the rest sounds like a sore loser and the Frayser comments sounds very close to something I am certain they do not teach at Father Ryan.
  14. KB had just set the CBHS career pins record, I believe he took it from my son (ouch), and simply forgot to shake hands. He ran off the mat and began doing sprints after his last match of the day for cardio and began his warm down. After the dual was over and up on the mezzanine, he found the Father Ryan coach and shook the coach's hand. Those are the facts, check with your coach. So please drop the "Frayser" remarks, not appreciated and I know some good people that came from and live in Frayser.
  15. Actually if you knew ghouse which many in the TN wrestling community do, you would know that its not a "holier" than thou persona, it just the fact that he's a heck of a lot smarter than most of us. He studies the sport as much as anyone I know and when you add it to an extremely bright person its a powerful combination. His rankings are unbiased and meticulously researched and given alot of credibility across the state. His posts are intelligent and well thought through. What have you done?
  16. How can you agree with rassinlite, you have two different stories of what actually happened? In Oliver's situation, his team just won a dual state championship. Give him a break, if he had stayed on the mat and done a back flip instead of shaking hands it would have been understandable (though likely would have cost a team point considering the third place match).
  17. Soms are you in the medical field or spend a lot of time at the doctor's office? You seem to be up on your HIPAA rules.
  18. We were told that after the match by a number of the Baylor parents.
  19. Shaking the hand of opposing coaches almost never happens in college. I believe the nhsca discourages it at the high school level as well. Its not a very sanitary practice, especially during flu season. Also I have seen many instances where the opposing coach will say something inappropriate and a confrontation begins. We teach our wrestlers to shake the opposing coach's hand, but it would be better if high schools mirrored the college approach and did away with this.
  20. Baylor put a wrestler on the mat that had not been cleared to wrestle and you're stunned by Ghouse's comment? A more appropriate question to the Baylor staff--why do that? Many out West lost a lot of respect for that move.
  21. Congratulations to CBHS for FOUR consecutive trips to the D2 championship match and two consecutive state championships. Four years in the finals is a great run, and reflects the hardwork of a great high school coaching staff, very supportive and committed parents, and outstanding and focused wrestlers. GO BROTHERS! There is still alot of work to be done this season and in the future.
  22. Wow! That is about the saddest thing I have heard in a while! The wrestlers, parents, and coaches deserve so much better than this. The referees have been awful this weekend--a general lack of understanding and knowledge of the sport. There are a lot of new faces in the refereeing group, but that does not excuse it at the State tournament.
  23. I don't think it is fair to judge the amount of travel or support by just the Top 100 tournaments. Region V has sent far more wrestlers east this year to wrestle in Nashville and AAU tournaments than have or will travel to Memphis for the Top 100. Not to mention that we have been doing this for over a decade and tomorrow will be the first time that a large number of wrestlers have traveled from the east to Memphis other than when required (i.e. last year's regional tournament). Still we understand that Memphis is geographically challenged when it comes to wrestling and get it and don't expect that the numbers traveling West will ever match the number of our wrestlers that travel east. A huge thank you and welcome to those wrestlers that have made the trip to Memphis today or will be traveling tomorrow. We hope the experience will be a good one!!!
  24. A great thing about Ghouse is the above response probably took him 10-20 minutes to research and write! He's in a league of his own.
  25. You're correct that both of these tournaments are strong. KC though is on a different level from Osceola, 9 nationally ranked teams (Allen #9, Collinsville #17, #30 Edmond North, Park Hill #35, Blue Springs #37, Kearney #39, Tuttle #40, Bettendorf #41 and CBHS #48). Osceola had zero ranked teams. The Granite City tournament on CBHS schedule is a better comparison with Osceola, but still probably stronger due to having nationally ranked Neosho at the time, a number of tough Illinois and Missouri teams. Now throw away the comparison of competition, Cleveland certainly appears to be peaking at the right time and will be tough for anyone in TN to handle.
