  1. CBHS wrestled alot of JV and young guys. There were a few good matches worth the trip with ranked wrestlers from Illinois.
  2. Facenthecrowd, The word is "sarcasm"...not "sarcasim". Your first attempt was even better "sarcasism"..I honestly thought you were just being funny, now I realize that you really can't spell the word, much less use it correctly in a sentence. Maybe your heart was in the right place after all and you really weren't attacking Ghouse. If that's the case, then fine, but I do suggesting sticking to smaller words.
  3. 2blLeg, good post. "Face in the crowd", Your post to Ghouse was personal and attacking, a sincere apology would be the right answer. Attacking Ghouse about his knowlege of TN wrestling was wrong, no matter what compliments you give yourself. You made it personal and your comments reflected an ignorance about our state's wrestling. Here's the statement you made "You seem to think you are the authority on wrestling and everything else. I can only wish I was like you and know what everybody is feeling and know about everything in wrestling. You see, I am jealous and envious of you! Can you hear the sarcasism???" Are you really proud of that statement to someone that invests so much time in TN wrestling and with our youth? This reflects poorly on you. You can try to turn it every direction and it comes back the same. My statements had nothing to do with West TN or East TN, trying to impress someone (lol), etc. You attacked someone that many of us respect and appreciate. Let me see if I can help calm this situation a bit. First, I spoke with ghouse this weekend, and he is not upset either. He was just pulling your chain, and having some fun. All in good humor. Knowing him, he sure didn't mean to offend you on the board. I didn't take your comments as having hit a nerve either, but when reading a post, people take them all kinds of ways. So, sometimes you have to be ready to come back and write more about it. I all too often, leave off enough to completely define my position on something. Next, as for smwrest, he was just defending ghouse for a couple reasons. One, his respect and appeciation for the efforts ghouse gives the sport, especially on the west side of the state. Everyone should be thankful that the west side is starting to really be a threat to the rest. Competion only makes us better as a whole. Secondly, don't think he was ever not calm, just stating some facts to give you a better feeling for his repect of ghouse, that's all. Take it in that context only. It was not meant to be anything more than that. As for smwrest, his credentials stand for themself. Those that know him can attest for that. Good luck to Fr. Ryan, and the rest of the state. One day, (very very soon), Tennessee wrestling will be up there with the top states in the country, and it will all due to the efforts of people like this, and those other great coaches around the state.
  4. Faceinthecrowd, You should be jealous and envious of ghouse. Apparently you don't know much of anything about wrestling in TN. If you did, then you would know that ghouse is one of the great guys in our state. He is on the TWF Board, devotes hundreds if not a thousand hours every year working with our kids as a coach, role model and organizer of our TN teams that compete nationally. That's not to mention the time spent with the DII Matman wrestling poll that he puts out each week of the high school season. Knowing him personally, he's also brilliant...his ACT score lapped mine a couple of times..lol. We all know who ghouse is...he not just a "face in the crowd", but someone that is out in front doing a tremendous amount for our kids and this sport. So calm down, give him his due respect and you, like the rest of us, can learn alot from him.
  5. A little of both...D2 champions proving in NCAA Div 1 tournament in last 10 years is fact (Leen, Marable, Cleveland, Simpson...) vs. Keller Who wins D1 vs D2 champions is head to head, common opponents, summer matchups...national rankings, placement at southeast regions or nationals..any objective criteria you can find and then always there is some opinion if you can't use the above. "oldblazedad" resurrected this one...I am fine to let it sit quietly until next February.
  6. Here we go again...we do this every year. D2 is better than D1 in the lower weight classes. Actually each year we compare the D2 and D1 state champions usually for a couple of weeks after the season and even with the most jaded of D1 glasses, D2 wins. Last year, D2 champions were better than D1 at 103, 112, 119, 125, 145, 152, 160 and HWT. 8 out of the 14 weight classes. The D2 champions then go on to prove it in college with NCAA championships and NCAA all americans, etc... I respect the Kennedy's and what they have done for middle TN wrestling. My kids have attended the same local and national tournaments. Michael Kennedy is a great wrestler and hopefully this will be his year to reach the top podium. To say that Wesley is scared or not the same "talent" is just incorrect. Wesley is a good wrestler dont get me wrong. I never said scared, but I see you are not smart enough to know, that he is not even close to the talent that Kennedy is. As for experience yes, Wesley has alot of D2 experience. But everyone knows it's much, easier to win a title in D2. Sorry but in D1 Wesley would not have his first state title yet. With that said the lower weight classes in D2 are very strong, almost as strong as D1. Some individual D2 kids would still win alot of titles in D1, but I can only think of maybe 4 this year.
  7. Yes, Bradley Central had one guy....however, McCallie, Baylor and CBHS (2) have had AA's since then.
  8. I vote for calling D2 the All American division since it seems to be the only division capable of producing NCAA Division I All Americans.
  9. My all time favorite quote for losing is "he was lucky because he was in better shape"
  10. Fargo has my vote for the toughtest individual tournament in the country! There are only two high school tournaments that will get your name in the wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater....Fargo and NHSCA Sr. Nationals. That said, the Championship freestyle rounds at the USA Jr. National Duals can be incredibly loaded with the top wrestlers in the country.
  11. Before giving speeches on how tough it is at the Central Regional...go do your homework! The number of competitors was much, much smaller in the Central Region...one wrestler in the Junior 119 lbs greco bracket, three wrestlers in the Junior 135 bracket...poor attendance would be a mild statement. Also most of the big names did not attend. The Southeast Region had 1400 entries this year (up 150 from last year). Our club attended tournaments in Indiana, etc. this year and while great competition (that is why we go), the broad overstatements like couldn't place in top 4 is overdone. The Southeast Region will as always place a number of guys at Fargo (top 8 in the country, not just Ohio). TN usually has at least one placer as well.
  12. That is the point, some of us do keep up with "all the details on each guy" both in the state and nationally. Thus, the best measure is results not opinions/rankings. Especially "honorable mention" its nice to be recognized, but is not a good measure for the "best of the best". Freshman and sophomores are even more difficult to measure, though placement at major Cadet events---Fargo or Fila nationals would put someone in my "best of the best".
  13. Croy was on my "best of the best" list...placed at Fargo last year. He is the real deal! Again, everyone is entitled to their opinions..please list the nationally recognized "high school" tournaments that the other guys on your list placed in. The purpose of the "best of the best" is to pick the top few from the state (generally from the state champs). Based on national competition makes sense, based on magazine rankings is funny. By the way, Kennedy I think may or will make the "best of the best" in a couple of years. He has definitely impressed so far, we'll watch in the future against top national competition at the junior and senior levels.
  14. Rocky, Oh yeah, they spend thousands of hours looking into local websites to see who has beaten who. Sorry in over 10 years of watching the USA, WIN magazine, etc. rankings closely, time and time again you see high school wrestlers rated that you watched get beaten soundly by someone not on the list. We had a guy one time go 2-2 at Fargo and he made the top freshman and sophomores list. He was a good wrestler, but was JV the next year. No time or desire to educate you and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. This was supposed to be the "Best of the Best", the chosen few--I think the best way to determine this is to watch how they perform against top national competition, not arbitrary rankings.... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  15. These ratings while fun, don't tell you much other than who's coaches and parents send in their kids names and information. Show me results at the top 2 tournaments...Fargo and Sr Nationals. These are the two tournaments that winners get their names in the Wrestling HOF in Stillwater, OK. The JR nationals has really grown over the past several years and so this has value as well. A couple of others...Beast of the East and Walsh Ironman. For many years, we have sent numerous studs to these types of tournaments and only a few have placed. Last year Croy, Mang, Konz accomplished the feat ....
  16. The first two parts of your sentence are correct, but the last point regarding Proctor is a dream. Cash or Marchetti would beat Proctor. My vote for top 3 would be Croy, Watson and Cash. This is generally based on results from outside of TN. Croy placed at Fargo (enough said). Watson wrestles well against talent from other states. I have seen him at numerous national tournaments. Also he beat Bricker Dixon from K.C. last year that placed 2nd in Missouri top class and placed at Fargo. We have some other great wrestlers in the state, but do your homework and you will see that most have not placed well at National Tournaments outside of TN. This is a good measuring stick for our best wrestlers.
  17. MWR...your purple is showing. Cash is the best wrestler in the state this year (bar none) just like Mang was in 2007-2008. If you don't believe, let's watch and see what the college recruiters say. I like Marchetti, great kid and wrestler, but Cash won the match this year at the Father Ryan Invitiational. Not to mention, Cash pinned TJ Duncan at the duals and beat Austell. How many state champions does he have to beat before you will give some respect? Cash will end up NCAA DI and has the potential to be another AA in the future.
  18. 103: Mosely DII 112: Watson DII 119: Baucke DII 125: Doster DII 130: Hayes DII 135: Graham DI 140: TJ Duncan DII 145: Hayes DII 152: Justin Cash DII 160: Marchetti DII 171: Young DI 189: Croy DI 215: White DI HWT: Carrethers DII This will hurt some DI fans egos...but this year in the lower weight classes it was one-sided. We'll see which of the champions get NCAA scholarships and where. Also there will be a chance to compare placement at the Senior and Junior nationals
  19. WOW! Great response...with parents like this there is hope for society. T.O. needed this kind of direction as a youth. Congrats to Jonathan! Great win.
  20. Probably time to let this topic die...Jackson wrestled a good match and won. He appeared to get caught up in the emotion of the moment and made an unnecesary gesture. The youtube videos did not show him wiping blood or flicking blood on anyone. The Cordova wrestler did throw a couple of unsportsmanlike elbows. Its probably going a little too far to say these were deliberate attempts to draw blood versus just an illegal way to get off your back. That said, the digging under the bandage at the very end did appear to be focused on drawing blood and I am certain the Cordova coaches have already addressed. From the posts, it appears that a number of folks have something they would have changed in their reaction to the match. The best I can take from this topic is that Jackson is a classy young man, with a bright future ahead of him. Congrats on the ACT! The young Cordova wrestler will hopefully learn from the situation with the help of his coaches and come back stronger next year!
  21. Yeah. its so weak that I would take Cash to tech or pin the DI 152 champion and Marchetti to probably major or possibly tech the DI 160 champion. If you need some confirmation, just wait....Cash and Marchetti are again likely to wrestle (and are being recruited) by major NCAA Division I schools. Let's let the deciding factor be where college coaches see these wrestlers. I know both Blake and Joe, and they had great tournaments and much congratulations!!! However, Cash and Marchetti are going to show again that DII is for the elite wrestlers. There aren't as many elite wresters in TN as other states, but the VERY large majority of the TN wrestlers that are elite are in DII. If you don't believe, just look at what happens in college (Simpson NCAA finalist, Leen NCAA Champion, Marable NCAA 3rd place--to just name a few). Two NCAA Champions graduated from TN schools, both are DII schools. I am friends with the parents of DI wrestlers, including DI state champions, and they are worried that their sons will not be ready to excel at the college level in wrestling or the classroom.
  22. AChampionFindsAWayToWin, I am not a Father Ryan or Brentwood Academy fan, but respect both programs, coaches, wrestlers and fans. Your comments above will be deeply offensive to almost everyone that reads this post. The comments are racist, classless and the DII wrestling community deserves much better. Please repost the above and remove the items that are offensive. I don't care how deeply you feel about Marchetti winning a match over Cash, your comments are a complete embarrassment to those that follow CoachT and are part of the TN wrestling.
  23. ghouse, good analysis. Both Cash and Marchetti deserve to go out as state champions, so as much as I and many others would like to the see another rematch, this is the right answer. My hope is that a few of the fans which were quick to suggest Cash or others might "run" from a match will give more thought to future posts.
  24. From a fan perspective, the duals tournament has out grown the Clarksville High School gym(s). The idea of a rotation sounds great, but probably will make less money and not run as effectivley. Having run tournaments before, the first couple of times are usually learning experiences. The tournament is primarily for the wrestlers, so pick a big time venue (e.g. college campus or coliseum) and make this event as memorable as possible. Oh yeah, and if they begin to change the date due to girls basketball, MOVE THE LOCATION TO SOME PLACE THAT CARES! A final note, Jerry Jordan is one of the great guys in TN wrestling. In the 10 years I have known him, he has been nothing but a class act and has invested heavily in the lives of many young men!
