  1. Before I run the numbers, I would like to thank all the players, parents, and coaches for giving it their all down the stretch of the season even though we came up short tonight against a good Lewis Co. team. Page Seniors Brad Finney, Beau Woodis, and Chris Canas will be missed next season as they move on with their lives after high school. Page's play improved over the season and should be a good team next season with several returning players to fill the shoes of the graduating seniors. 2. Before I show the stats, I would like to thank all the players, but especially the Seniors - Kayla Bowling, Rachel Underwood, and Courtney Campbell - for giving it their all in the final game of the season for Page. I would also like to thank Coach Dye, Coach Roney, and Coach Blakenship for trying their best in a tough season for the Lady Patriots. Lastly, the parents have supported the team through out the season and I thank you for all that you have done for the girls in allowing them to play even though we did not have the best of seasons. Young had 7 (1 of 1 FT's), Garrett had 2 (1 of 1 FT's), and Davidson had 2 while Page failed to score. GC out rebounded Page 8 to 3 and turnovers were a key as GC only had 2 while Page had 6. In the 2nd qtr, GC outscored Page, 15-8, as Garrett had 7 (1 of 2 FT's), V. Young had 4 (2 of 3 FT's), Wisener had 2 (0 of 1 FT's) and Houston hit 2 of 2 FT's while Page's 8 pts were by Bowling who had 2 threes as GC led at the half, 27-8. GC again out rebounded Page 8 to 3 and the turnovers were GC 4, Page 6. For the half, GC hit 7 of 11 FT's while Page was 0 of 2. Fouls were a key as well as Page had 12 and GC only 3. In the 3rd qtr, GC outscored Page, 13-10, as V. Young had 9 (5 of 5 FT's) and Davidson had 2 while Page's Bowling hit a three, Underwood, Schnittjer, and Crowell each had 2, and Campbell hit 1 of 2 FT's as GC led after 3 qtrs, 40-18. In this qtr, rebs were even - GC 5, Page 5, Turnovers - GC 2, Page 5, but FT's were a key as GC hit 5 of 5 while Page was 1 of 2. In the 4th qtr, GC outscored Page, 15-8, as both Garner and Wisener each hit a three, Garrett had 3 (1 of 2 FT's), S. Young hit 2 of 2 FT's, Montez had 2 (0 of 2 FT's), and both V. Young and Jenkins hit 1 of 2 FT's while Page's Bowling had 4 (1 three, 1 of 2 FT's), Crowell had 2, and both Underwood and K. Mills each hit 1 of 2 FT's as Giles Co. won the quarter-final game in the district tournament, 55-26, to advance to play Marshall Co. in the semi-finals. Rebounds for this qtr - GC 16, Page 9, Turnovers - GC 3, Page 4, FT's - GC 5 of 10, Page 3 of 6. Vee Young had another great game that Page could not stop even with double-teaming her at times, but Young was able to pass out that gave her 3 assts. Hope Garrett also played well from the outside. Page's Kayla Bowling also scored in double figures and hit 4 threes, but others did not score enough as Giles Co. played a tight defense.
  3. Lewis and Marshall should advance easily, but the other games could be interesting. As in any 8 team tournament, the #4 vs #5 game should be the closest. Hickman Co. has an accurate shooter in Jaclyn Wise plus a good insides play in Brittany Powers while Loretto has Heather Dunkin with a good shot and Kinsley Williams on the inside. The key to this game could be the play of Loretto's Freshman Abby Laws who returned recently from an ankle sprain. Hickman has the home court advantage and we all know that Loretto plays a lot better on their home court so I guess I'll go with Hickman. Page will have a tough game in Pulaski as they must stop the inside game of Giles' Vee Young. Page had 3 players out due to sickness in the last game against Giles and, depending on their return, it should be a closer game. Page will also have to hit several threes as well to keep it close. I will not pick a winner as is my policy in all Page games.
  4. Here is a link to "The Columbia Daily Herald" about Owens leaving the team: http://columbiadailyherald.com/articles/20...sports/2chs.txt
  5. I emailed Page Coach Kathy Dye last night about the set-up for the District 10-AA Tournament. She replied that after the Quarter-Final games held at the higher-seeded teams on Monday, Feb. 11 for the girls and on Tuesday, Feb. 12 for the boys, that the remaining games would be played at Marshall Co. for both the girls and boys. Looking at the TSSAA schedules for the teams, it also shows that the district tournament continues at Marshall Co. starting Thursday, Feb 14.

Giles Co. finishes District 10-AA play at 12-2 and will be the #2 seed in the district tournament. Page finishes at 4-10 and I believe is the #6 seed. Although Page and Loretto both finished at 4-10, Page's win over #3 Lewis Co. breaks the tie. I'll check that to be sure.

Page called time out to set up what would be the winning goal. Brad Finney took the inbounds pass and drove the length of the floor to hit the winning layup at the buzzer. What a game!!!! In the final regular season games on Tues., Feb 5, Page travels to Pulaski to face Giles Co. and Spring Hill travels to Lewisburg to face Marshall Co.
  10. Thanks for your input, blackngold. Loretto should be playing better come tournament time as Freshman Abby Laws has returned to the lineup after being injured in the Christmas tournament in Alabama. Abby had averaged close to 14 pts per game in district games prior to her injury and should have a positive influence the remainder of the season and into the post season. Several players stepped up their play during her absence including Heather Duncan, Kinsley Williams, Becca Curtis. We'll see how they do against Giles Co. on Fri., Feb. 1 and Lewis Co. on Tues., Feb 5 and if they can host a game on Feb. 11 in the 1st round of the district tournament. Loretto plays well at home most of the time so whoever their opponent is had better be ready to play.
  11. In the Page/Lewis game, my count of turnovers in the 4th qtr has Page with 3 and Lewis with 2, but the FT's have Page hitting 3 of 3 while Lewis hit 5 of 8. Page also had a great perfornance by Brad Finney with 8 pts and Matt Hastings hit a three as Lewis had no threes in the 4th qtr. Page's threes by Hastings and Bagsby and perfect 6 of 6 FT's decided the game in overtime. Lewis lost Kane Crowell to fouls in overtime after he had 5 pts in the 4th qtr was also a factor. The tournament will indeed be interesting as it depends on who shows up and doesn't and whose hitting their threes on a particular night and who has the better inside game. I always find FT shooting another factor as several games this season have been decided at the line.
  12. Here are the remaing district games for all the teams: Friday, Feb. 1: Marshall Co. at East Hickman - Marshall wins Lewis Co. at Hickman Co. - Lewis wins Giles Co. at Loretto - Hard prediction, but I think Loretto has the home court advantage. Page at Spring Hill - No pick as I might jinx Page Tuesday, Feb. 5: Spring Hill at Marshall Co. - Marshall wins Loretto at Lewis Co. - Lewis wins Page at Giles Co. - No pick as I might jinx Page East Hickman at Hickman - Hickman wins As far as the #1 and #2 seeds, it appears that a coin toss will decide between MC and LC #3, #4, and #5 seeds are somewhat undecided to me, but I'll guess HC, Loretto, and GC. #6 Page, #7 SH, #8 EH. Just my 2 cents.
  13. Here are the current district standing through games of 1-29: 1 MC 11-1 2 GC 10-2 3 LC 7-5 4 HC 6-6 5 SH 5-7 6 Lor 4-8 7 Page 3-9 8 EH 2-10 If the tournament was held based on the current standings, Giles Co. would play Page and Lewis Co. would play Loretto. There are 2 games remaining in the district so standings could change. Games for Friday, Feb. 1: Marshall Co. at East Hickman Giles Co. at Loretto Lewis Co. at Hickman Co. Page at Spring Hill Games for Tuesday, Feb 5: Spring Hill at Marshall Co. Page at Giles Co. Loretto at Lewis Co. East Hickman at Hickman Co. The district tournament starts on Tuesday, Feb. 12 with higher seeds hosting lower seeds: #8 at #1, #7 at #2, #6 at #3, and #5 at #4. After the 1st round games, the tournament resumes with play at the central site of Marshall Co.

  20. Kayla Bowling was not hurt, but her shots were just not falling. As for the foul differential of Page's 20 to HC's 8, I felt HC did make some fouls that were not called, but Page did foul down the stretch trying to get back in the game. In the 4th qtr, Page had only 2 FT's to HC's 10, but this trend was true for the entire game. In the 2nd qtr, HC made only 1 basket with the remaining 6 of their points from the line. I just found it interesting that a team would only make 8 fouls in a game.

The key aspects of the game are indicated in bold above. HC's three point shooting with 8 to Page's 3 was a 5 point edge and Page's 22 turnovers to HC's 15 probably gave HC points on turnovers. Excellent Free Throw shooting by both teams.
