    DCA @ USJ

Ok, ok, easy with the exclamations, we get your point. Nobody ever said just because USJ is undefeated that they were soooo good. I don't know if DCA is better or not, but if they are, I promise they aren't like 10 times better than USJ. Earlier scores and comparing scores don't matter. I have seen many teams get beat bad by teams in the regular season then come back to win in the playoffs. Anything can happen. Look forward to tomorrow. Go Bruins.
  2. Not good with numbers but I would say for a good seat get there anywhere from 6-630. It won't be a USJ/JCS crowd but being the only game in Jackson and I am sure DCA will bring a good crowd, the numbers will be good. Usually updates for the other games are given and if not somebody up in the pressbox will know. Have a good Thanksgiving. Go Bruins.

Should be a great one tomorrow night. Looking forward to this game more than I am the Ole Miss/Miss. St. game on Saturday. I talked to a few of the USJ players the other night and they said they were ready. They know this could be the last chance for a while for USJ to have a shot at a State Title. I know USJ has not had the best of luck with these teams in the last few years(like somebody earlier posted) but it is not like they were blow outs. 2000 BC Bowl lost by 21 to CPA but for those that were there know it was a lot closer than that. 2001 lost by 7 to Ezell-Harding in the semis who went on to kill Cloudland. 2002 lost 14-0 to CPA in semis. But I do have a lot of respect for Region 5 teams. Should be fun Friday night with everyone being home for Thanksgiving. Have a good Thanksgiving everybody. Go Bruins. -Nate Long I know you read this. Missed a good one last Friday night. It definitely rivaled our '98 quarters. Your brother played a good game. See you on Friday.

Heading home to Jackson from Ole Miss for the game and Thanksgiving break here in a few hours. Should be a great game. I need to see a good game after having to watch so many bad ones this season at Ole Miss. Go Bruins.
  5. Let's see here...the last six state championships ranges from 98(my senior season at USJ) to 03. Wildcatpride, CPA, DCA,etc were not even on the west side of the bracket I know for sure in 98,99,00. And they were not the reason Region 6 could have six state championships in a row-in 98 USJ beat Huntland in the semis and in 00 USJ beat Collinwood in the semis-woah that would be Region 8 at the time! And I promise you this, there is no way anybody in Region 6 would have made a game of 98 Trousdale and your fellow Region 6er Moore Co. did lose the championship game to S. Pittburg in 99 when your region had a chance to win. So know some facts before going back too far and quit blaming everything on the privates. And, oh, an early merry christmas, privates move up, Trousdale, Union City, and McKenzie move down. Have fun with that. Go Bruins.
  6. You may think I am crazy for saying this, but I think our '97 team could have played a decent game with Trousdale that year. We lost a game in the semis to a Clarksville Ac. team we dominated in every phase of the game except the scoreboard. We just gave up about 3 big plays and fumbled at the wrong times. The reason why I think we would have done better than my senior year of 98, I think our 97 team matched up better with TC than our 98 team. I started at center and lb from my soph/jr year on. We were much bigger(ol and dl) in 97 and a lot deeper at skill positions with speed. But I guess we will never know. Don't think we would have won bc that 97 team was great too, but I think we could have made it a decent game. My dad and I still talk about the Trousdale game to this day and every year we keep up with them. We just talked about them losing this past weekend too. But we laugh that they are going back to 1A. Many USJ fans will still talk about that 98 game and how great TC was. We all just kinda laugh about it now. Those were some fun(well that Clinic bowl day it was fun until the 2nd half) days.
  7. When your starting QB(Thomas Paine) for TC is bigger than almost everybody on the USJ team and starts at Defensive End as well, you know you it could be a long day! TC that year could have won 2A and 3A, and competed with most 4A and 5A teams.
  8. Thanks for the info. Didn't know that about Sanders. If Scruggs really were making a comeback I would tell the Ole Miss recruiting staff to get their butts to Hartsville! That guy was unbelievable. Heck, the whole '98 TC team was unbelievable.
  9. Well I guess I will have my say. First my respect goes out to Trousdale. My senior season for USJ was '98, and I must say that was one of the greatest teams(SP with Eddie Moore were great too) I have ever seen play regardless of classification and definitely the best I ever played. I began following Trousdale after that because of their great football and my respect for them. To some Trousdale fans...whatever happened to some of those players-Payne, Scruggs, Sanders, etc? I thought I heard Payne and Scruggs a few years ago were playing small college ball. But back to the topic...while I can't say how USJ will do at the 2A level I will say that to all the 1A schools wanting the privates out, well you still have some strong ones in JCS and Boyd and welcome Union City, McKenzie, and back to dominate 1A, Trousdale County.

I find it funny for those that are saying "if USJ wins there is no way that they will beat DCA or Mt. Pleasant." So what does that mean if JCS wins...they will beat DCA or Mt. Pleasant? And nice cheap shot on the Trinity game. Don't really know why that was said. When the other Jackson 1A schools have played in 3 state football championships, let me know. But no matter what it will be a good game Friday night, hopefully as good as the '98 quarterfinal game between JCS and USJ, my senior season. Go Bruins.

How do you know USJ won't go into Division II? Personally that's what I would do, and this is coming from a former USJ player. While I do think USJ will be able to compete at the 2A level, I think they will have more success in DII. I've always had the utmost respect for 2A West TN football because it is the best in the state and will be very tough year in and year out for USJ to have the same success like we have in 1A. There are some years where we would have been able to play with 2A and others where we would not. Wish I could be there this Friday though. Should be good.

It's all good man. Yeah I remember a few years ago sitting in my room here at Ole Miss and seeing Bishop Byrne raise the gold trophy. I was like "what?!?!" Looked it up and that was the year they had just made a third division. Kinda upsetting when you see their playoffs consist of 4 teams...one of those years I think they had to beat like FACS or Catholic and SBEC to win. But they probably do have better athletes now bc they are in D2 and can do whatever they want. Should be a good one Friday.
  13. I have noticed that to about the last few years. Region 6 and wherever Cloudland is, those poeple love to accuse all the privates of recruiting and talk trash. USJ does not recruit. I graduated and played football on the runner-up USJ team in '98 and I have never heard any of the public schools in our regions,7 and 8(Bruceton, Lake Co., South Fulton, etc.), ever complain about recruiting and stuff. Those teams used to always play good games with USJ, especially Bruceton and Lake Co. in the 90's, before the last couple of years. Who do you think won all the State Titles in the 90's, save a few years for DCA and BGA? Publics. We lost to one of the greatest 1A teams ever in Trousdale in '98. So you want the privates out? Have fun with the competition because there will be none once the privates leave. 1A will be a joke to win.

Haha. Wow some of you people trip me out. All this crap about recruiting. My senior year at USJ was '98 and, well, out of the 15 seniors on the team including myself, 11 of us were there at least before the 6th grade. One came in 7th, 2 in 8th, and one in 10th. We played a regular season and playoff and had some easy wins and had some tough wins, some of those over 1A public schools. And then we got stomped in the state title game by Trousdale, who would have challeneged Maryville that year for the 4A title. Trousdale was by far one of the greatest teams I have ever seen and guess what folks, they were public. You know what I have never heard? West Tn public school 1A ever whine about possible recruiting. Lake Co. and Bruceton used to beat USJ. I have many friends that played for Bruceton and never ONCE have they ever b*tched and complained. We had some great games against them. My junior and senior years we had two tough wins over South Fulton in the regular season and playoffs. And we were down to Huntland 8-6 at half in the semis before beating them. And JCS that year...I know a lot of their players and they had been there for a while. My former defensive and lineman coach, Gilmer, is now at Bruceton...how do you think he would feel if USJ actually recruited? He would never be able to win! But he knows they don't so he will have Bruceton competitive again in a few years. So if you want to, go ahead and wish the privates out. Then 1A will be a TRUE laughing joke of football because there will be no competition with both privates and Trousdale gone. You can go ahead and give the title to the Bruceton's, S. Pittburg's, Mt. Pleasant's, etc. Even though I am siding with those that support USJ and JCS, who said Bishop Byrne was a powerhouse?! Please. We used to beat the crap out of those guys like 50-0. And by the way they play in the lowest private school division, not even the one with ECS, Briarcrest, etc. And lastly Ekard and Monster Man, get your panties out of a wad. Do you have anything better to do than get on here and accuse schools of recruiting? Coach Marley runs a great program at USJ and he along with all the players, including myself, through the years have worked hard to get that program where it is today. Ekard especially, you must have some major issues about the USJ-Riverside game. I was there and Riverside did kill themselves on penalties. Most were legit, holding, block in the back, face guarding. And total yards does not always mean anything. The other night, LSU beat Troy by only 4 yet outgained them in yards 382-150! Goodness people, just enjoy the game Friday night between 2 good programs and shutup about everything else. Go Bruins!
  15. Actually, USJ has won it 3 of the last 4. People always seem to forget USJ won in '99 also.
