  1. which week you looking at and what part of fla do you want?
  2. Well I am not from rockwood but I do know Coach Witter very well on a professional level and Rockwood is getting a great one. He has spent the last 3 years at the apopka high school coaching undera florida coaching legend. Before that he was a head coach at a 3a (1100 student) school Mt. Dora High, where he was highly regarded. Excellent in game baseball guy. Rockwood lucked out because they are getting a good one.
  3. I realize you proabley dont understand the process of recruiting but comments like this one are the number reason High school coaches get out of baseball early. His coach promoting him to big programs???? Do you not thnk UT VU TTU MtSU ETSU MEM APSU dont know who can play in their own state? D1 programs finished with 08s recruiting 6 weeks ago and are vigorusly workign on 09 and 10s right now. They know who can play. With that being said who should they be promoting them two and how would you suggest they go about it? Should they be calling GT UGA UFL Fsu USC texas right now when D1 in states are not calling. I realize you dont understand the process but the parents should be driving the PR bus for a player. Putting the player in camps and showcases in front of realistic potential future collegiate coaches. There are no secrets anymore. with summer ball, scout teams, perfect games, teamones nobody goes unnoticed, if you can play and have grades the D1 schools know who you are. High school coaches really only call on players later in the process when players dont have a colleigate home.( those are borderline guys and guys who blossomed late.......NOT D1 players). This is not a personal attack but I didnt feel that was a fair statement and wanted to help you understand the process. this website can help u out http://www.hsbaseballweb.com/recruit_timeline.htm if u notice it only ask the coach to write letter to a few colleges and that is to peferred colleges which means the player should still be proactive even in that process
  4. 1. yes it is mandatory, i present them with team rules on the first team meeting of the year and one of the rules is you must play summer baseball. 2. I will allow and want them to play for elite teams but down here they do both because everyone plays high school summer league during the week and scout team or AAU on the weekend. If there was a team that traveled all summer and gave them more opportunity then i would be all for it, but like i said down here everyone that is extremely talented only plays wekend tournaments 3. I agree with your point but how many of those teams exist in tennessee, especially middle tennessee. One maybe in middle maybe 3 in the state. I have done alot of travel team tournaments and with exception of maybe a dulins team or some of the late 90's tigers have i ever in tennessee team with 10-15 d1 and multiple draft picks. If there have been some I would love to hear about them. I think other states such as florida (i know what the year round weather thing) do it better and some high school coaches have taken it upon themselves to find a better way. I dont want the TSSAA to take that opportuinty away from the hard working coaches. I feel like the new rules are attempting to handcuff the ones out working everyone and help the ones who go fishing all summer.
  5. I totally agree. Good coaches willing to work with their kids sohould be allowed to do so in the summer. the elite scout teams play in the fall. If your son gets the opportunity to be apart of a truly elite summer team such as some East Cobb teams, Midland, us national then no coach is going to deprive a kid of that opportunity. but every little tema that pops up is not better than team structured development from a good high school coach. As for my situation, BBC, I coach at a PUBLIC school of 450 students. My son is only 18months old so he is not ready to contribute just yet. 85% free and reduced lunch and all of my kids are my kids zoned for my school. I am in a place where people say you cannot win in baseball. My school had not won more than 2 games in 10years before I arrived. We are now a true contender in our classification, with a very good record and we start 5 sophs and 4 juniors. I have two juniors who will play NAIA, JC Baseball and all 5 sophs will play at the next level 2 have a chance of getting drafted. The ONLY differnce in my program is that I have gotten a tremendous effort from already great athletes in the summer and fall. My team resembles what most people in tennessee would say is a basketball or track team but they have accepted coaching and because EVERYONE down here plays high school summer ball they play against great competition. Yes the night Pat McMahon (HEAD COACH University of florida) sat and watch us plyed two draftable kids were on the mound, but that is the point I make Coach McMahon saw my whole team play not just one player. In your system all of my middle of the players would be on travel teams palying other middle of the road travel teams(so they can get seen). My young men played 11 innings in front of a man who was the head coach of the national runner up at the time what travel team can sya that. I also agree true scout teams in the fall are a must in tennessee. right now tennessee kids are losing exposure every day. BBC like i said not an attack on you. I just think tennessee needs radical change in the summer and i think people have to become more open to that. Being in Florida for 3 years now I can tell you tennessee coaches are working harder than there couterparts in fla and because of that alone tennessee is producing a better brand of baseball.
  6. I find your post BBC disturbing and absolutely what is wrong with Tennessee baseball. Without a doubt i can tell you first hand that the extra work hs coaches are putting in the summer and demanding more from their players year round are not keeping players from getting seen but actually doing the opposite in that they are preparing more players for the next level. Scouts go where the talent is, it does not matter where they or who the talent is playing. I coach hs in central florida and down here everyone plays hs summer ball. There are scout teams that play on some weekends but everyone plays hs summer. The typical tennessee "travel team" does not exist down here. I can tell you I saw more scouts last summer on the hs summer circuit than i ever saw in tennessee when i ran elite summer tournaments. Case in point, Pat McMahon (uf head coach) watched 11 innings of a double header of my school and another this summer. both schools have less that 700 students and mcmahon wrote 4 pages of legal pad notes on the players he was there to see. We have 2 sophmores ( one is mine ) and one senior ranked in the top 50 of their classes according to perfect game in our local high school summer league. The scouts are at every game and some games we dont have umpires or turn on the schoreboard, it is all about instruction. Anyone who thinks high school summer ball is not the same quality, I would like to pursade you to go watch the murfreesboro schools in the summer. they have raised the bar. They play every top team around and they travel all over the place. OH did i mention they always finish the summer with winning records and they have great spring programs. The problem with summer baseball teams is there are always parents involved in some capacity. I have never spoken to a college or pro scout who wants speak with any parent. They want to speak to professionals like the players high school coach. You mention on this topic that scouts are looking for physical skills from 17-18 year olds, and i agree. But scouts can see physcial ability of a player regardless of the competition he is playing. What they dont know from summer baseball is the students academic ability, character and work ethic those are things scouts ALWAYS speak to the high school coaches about. I mean this as no personal attack on you BBC. I dont know you or what you do. But I think high school coaches have accomplished great things through the hard work in the summer. Tennessee baseball needs that work to continue to close the gap between itself and other states. I dont feel like someone is discredited that. Instead of "travel ball" Tennessee needs more scout teams that only travel to these elite showcase tournaments and promote the best players. Those dont interfere with other summer plans.
  7. Michael Main is the number one two way player in country. He is a senior a deland high school in deland fla. He was clocked last summer running it up there around 98 this summer while pitching for team usa. I dont think he is transferring to beech giving that he pitched yesterday for deland.
  8. I know the head coach of the fakes and hooker all-stars was telling me that he previewed the book and he now feels that not only will he win the kiwanis league for the third year in a row but he feels becasue of redsman and e5's insight he should definitely be the next high school coach. He thinks he can get an interview for the job also. Despite his lack of a high school diploma, he knows the secretary at the county office. Wow!!! Another great pupil from the redsman and e5's coaching tree.
  9. Brandon Crossman C\Inf Cookeville Paul Adams P\Inf Cookeville David Layne 1b\3b Lebanon Ben Spurlock C\Util Lebanon Devan Taylor P\Inf White Co. Kyle Hicks C\Inf White Co. I would like to congratulate these seniors and many others who names I didnt list for outstanding careers in 7aaa. These young men listed have all been all district as well as major factors in this district since their sophomore season. I have had the honor of coaching 5 of the 6 of these young men and with there seasons now over, I would like to wish them all the best of luck in whatever they may do. I mean no disrespect to the other seniors in the distrcit but, sometimes the 7aaa posts on CoachT are dominated by the rutherford and warren co. posters(which they should be because their teams are terrific) and I just wanted to draw some postive attention to some excellent baseball players, who have had excellent careers.
  10. sorry limbaugh i was looking at it wrong. thanks for the clarification. good luck to all
  11. David how is warren co ahead of siegel when siegel has a better record against oakland?
  12. You are obviously know nothing about baseball ccrider. My boy beat Skunk's Nest and Sunset on back to back nites and he didnt even give up any points. He has been an all-star every year and I have been the all-star coach twice. I have alot of phone numbers of parents who will vouch for my baseball knowledge, so if you wont to compare resume let me know.
  13. ccrider I appreciate your honesty and your want to make your son the best rec baller he can be. It is funny that you mentioned bowling in an earlier post b/c my son (who is a year young than your son and a side armer also) Had pitched 6innings vs. Clayborn's Bakery one thursday nite, 6 inn. 12 runs only 1 earned 162 pitches, we went to family bowling the next nite. His arm was alittle tender so he bowled left handed and did great!!! So we decided to pitch him underneath left handed also. He pitched 2 scoreless the next day vs. piggly wiggly. Now he pitches every inning of every game and our team (Fakes and Hooker) is in first place. We practice his pitching form by watching a lot of Tv and immulating all the Pro's movements. I have even gotten quite good myself. I was thinking of making a video would your kid be interested in participating in the video. My son can even strike me out when he throws his new screwball, it breaks both ways!!!!
  14. yeah send me one that would be great.
  15. I am the head baseball coach at wildwood high school in central florida. I wouldnt mind one day making my way back to middle tenn.
  16. commander, where are mixson and pryor from??
  17. Broad this is the story of friendship. They have always been extremely talented and this year they are argueabley deeper than ever (this could be their best team even with the subtractions of wheeler and sweeney). The Lebanon transfers(Miller, Cravens and Alsup) all had potential to be very solid aaa ball players and should be standouts at the single a level. The addition of those three to any team in the state would be a huge boost. The questions with friendship have always come late in the season. They haven't ever been able to get over the hump. They have had some bad luck in spring fling in the past and even last year when it looked like they finally vanquished the demons of goodpature, they had a poor showing in the final game. They have the athletes to win it all and with the single a landscape the way it is, it is only a matter of time before they finally get one. The question is when.
  18. You guys make a guy want to move back to the state of tennessee, with all your clever humor and inside jokes. So , E5, ccrider tells me your are teaching a revolutionary style of hitting. I told him i didnt know anything about that but you were the absolute best teacher in the world of the DP ball fake throw to first look at third play! I Hope all you guys are doing well, REDMAN looks like I will see you in June in Panama City. E5 I would like to talk to you. Drop me an email at spurloc@sumter.k12.fl.us. Good luck on all your seasons. Spurlock
  19. I hear WJB head coach can't get out of the way of foul balls in the third base coahces box. Rumor has it, he is goign to wear catchign equipment in the coahces box, is this true???
