  1. I hope the comments attributed to Mr. Carter are wrong. If not, what a load of... you know what !!! The new Region 6 gets hosed big time -again. The new region 6 has added stronger teams to the mix and reduced the number of qualifiers for state. Sounds like a bad deal to me. How about combining regions 6 and 7 for state qualification and have the top 6 wrestlers in each weight qualify ?? Tell me it isn't so, Ronnie .
  2. Believe fax also provides that wrestlers wearing cheerleader outfit will be admitted free.
  3. She gave me a letter to Ronnie asking that I be admitted, as her representative. When I showed it to him, his commet was that she would have been admitted, but since I was not an administrator I could not. Since when are perks like this transferable? How do you function as the AD's representative at a tournament? Sounds to me like Ronnie did the right thing.
  4. The tone of responses to KKW's "dry" humor tells me there will be quite a few dehydrated wrestlers out there waiting for weigh-in tomorrow. It also tells me the new weight management program isn't accomplishing one of its main goals - the prevention of dehydration-related deaths/injuries. Shame on all of us who knowingly promote an unsafe wrestling situation or allow it to occur on our watch.
  5. If this string is true, the real battles this week may occur matside. Question: Will team attorneys have to pay admission or will they be given team passes by the TSSAA? How do you spell INJUNCTION ??
  6. KKW, Will coaches need to provide NWCA weight loss plan sheets as well? Thanks
  7. Here's an explanation of the Division I "carry" format. This week's state championship tournmament is structured in a format called a "carry tournament" rather than the more common double-elimination tournament in which everyone gets at least two matches . There are 32 wrestlers in each weight class. Of these 32 wrestlers, two will make it to the championship finals and compete for 1st and 2nd. 14 other wrestlers will compete in the consolation brackets for 3rd through 6th place. To make it to the championship semifinals, a wrestler must win his first three matches. The fourteen wrestlers in the consolation brackets include the 12 wrestlers beaten by the four wrestlers who made it to the championship semifinals plus the two wrestlers who lose their semifinals match. The only way to guarantee a place in the consolation brackets is to win your first two matches. If you lose either your first or second match, then getting into the consolation brackets depends on the success of the wrestler who beat you and then "carries" you into the consolations. That's why it is called a "carry" tournament. When will you know if you are in or out of the consolations? 8 of the 32 wrestlers will know they are out Thursday night. If you lose your first match and your opponent goes on and loses his second match, you are out. Friday morning at 10am, the round of 8 will take place. The 12 wrestlers who were beaten by the 4 winners of this round of 8 (in either the 1st, 2nd or 3rd rounds) will be included in the consolation brackets along with the 2 wrestlers who will lose in the semifinals later in the day. The 8 wrestlers who were beaten by the losers of the round of 8 will be out of the tournament. Hope this helps.
  8. Clarkesville 135 is Gibson. If you check state duals results you'll see he's pretty good but not unbeatable. He pinned Buchanan (Science Hill) and Peace (overton). Lost to Fuller (SD) 16-7 and was pinned by Ensminger(Bradley). Good luck at state.
  9. How's this for a new angle to get more press from the Tennessean? Someone suggested that the Tennessean's advertising revenue is more highly regarded than its readership satisfaction. Let's try to get the key Sports Section advertisers to put pressure on the Tennessean. Anyone want to help arrange a meeting with Nashville's "Gentlemen's Clubs" to see if we can get their support?
  10. Glad to hear City Paper is doing an article on the Division I breakdown for State. My cynical side tells me that the only reason they do one on Division I is because they are doing an article on Division II - home of the more popular MBA and Father Ryan teams. Please excuse my bitterness, I know I should be grateful for the "coattails" of MBA and Father Ryan. Unfortunately, Division I wrestling in Nashville seems doomed to the status of Rodney Dangerfield - " Don't get no respect ".

  12. .............................................................. I hope you were kidding, because I might have taken offense to that. I have sent the results of all of the tournaments that I have managed to both the Tennessean and the City Paper and then checked to see if they were mentioned but were not. The people at the Tennessean do not think that high school wrestling is newsworthy. Not my fault, and I am as fed up with as you are. So use the paper for the garbage, most of the time that is what they think we think is newsworthy any way. Brad ...................................................................................................................... Brad: I was kidding, please don't take offense. Your handling of the region 6 tournament was first rate. Heard a rumor that the Tennessean was changing it's name to the Notworthseeing
  13. Brad: Did you ban the Tennessean from writing about the tournament so that your site is the sole source of information ? It would have been nice to see some mention of the tournament in Sunday's paper. I can get bass fishing info, but can't read about the Regional wrestling tournament. Even the high school bowling teams got some press after their regional tournament. Such is the lonely life of a middle Tennessee wrestler.

  15. Looks like Jennings is out of State Championship. Brackets posted for Region 6 do not show Jennings on Overton roster. Rayborn is entered at 130 and Peace at 135
  16. Doesn't sound good if Jennings needs the School Superintendent's (Dr. Garcia) help to be elligible for tomorrow's tournament. Maybe Jennings is getting another kind of education right now.
  17. 2 PM EST on Thursday the 17th. Full schedule is posted on TSSAA site.

  19. Couple of comments about the A/AA Duals. The sportsmanship displayed between teams was great. Wrestlers were pumped but disciplined. I attribute this to the coaches setting the standard of conduct. Fans were vocal but well-mannered. Maybe it was because this was the first A/AA duals, but everyone seemed to be honored by the opportunity to participate in the State Duals. For many of the wrestlers, this is the only chance they have had, or will have, to compete in a State level competition ( Hixson and Springfield will be AAA next year). This is in contrast to the AAA and Div. II teams which, to win their regional duals, need squads composed of wrestlers with the skill level to qualify for state individually. Most of the wrestlers went full out, right from the start. Little time was spent "getting to know" the other wrestler's style. It was pin or be pinned. 31 pins in the 56 matches. I thought the referees did an outstanding job. The matches were decided by the wrestlers not the referees. Those pins were spread out pretty evenly with only 4 wrestlers recording double pins. Jeremy Carter( FRA, 112), Jeremy Holt (Spr. 119), Lee Vandergriff (Hix. 112) and Eddie Long (Gr. 119). It would have been fun to have these guys matchup and see what happened. My congratulations to all the A/AA wrestlers, coaches and fans.

  21. Flu is hitting Nashville area also. Look out for the big buckets at matside.
  22. Got more popcorn ?? Hixon won team championship in 1973. This year is not first trip.
  23. Flu is bad in Nashville. Franklin has at least two of its wrestler down and several schools in the area are closed. May see some weakened wrestlers on the mat today and tomorrow. Hate to have contests impacted by the flu bug, but such is life.
  24. Noticed on your website that coaches need to submit the TSSAA Wrestling Tournament Entrance Blank stipulating that all wrestlers have weighed in half or more of their wresting dates at, or below, the weight they are entering the regional tournament. Same form is required on Region 5 tournament website. Thought this wasn't required any more and that TSSAA was only requiring that wrestlers comply with new weight management program. What's the word from TSSAA ?? What are regions required to do to monitor compliance with TSSAA weight management program?
