  1. It sure is a shame that two of McCallie's three losses were to lowly public school teams. I suppose some of the problem could be associated to the sensitive McCallie players having to step on the field with the scum from the public schools. It ought to be clear that the elite public schools, the Riverdales, Oak Ridges, and Maryvilles of the world are superior to the best private schools--this year anyway. Ooltewah has been very competitive with the best schools, so I would give them the edge. By the way, those of you whining about China need to stop. Imports and exports only count for a 12 percent share of United States GDP. Everything is not made in China.
  2. Orr was hurt on the very first offensive series of the game; if you can remember, they had to take a time out to let him recover. Obviously this had a huge impact on the game, as Orr is the one player SD could not afford to lose. He remained in the game, but it is clear to everyone that he was never the same. Last I heard, he was going to a hospital when they got back to Chattanooga. Even if Orr was healthy, I think DB would still have come away with the victory. Soddy certainly would have had more offense, but I believe DB was the better team. The Indians are good defensively; the d-line is so small its almost comical, but their linebackers and secondary more than make up for it. Offensively, the passing game was reliable and explosive at times. I would have thought that Duran wouldn't overthrow every deep out this late in the season, however. There wasn't much of a rushing attack, with the exception of a run by Moten late in the second half. The game was intense and very hard-fought. Both teams played with class. It is a shame that Orr got hurt; we can only hope that he will be okay. Congratulations to DB and good luck the rest of the season.
  3. He "retired" from Red Bank after the 2001 season. (Gerald Riggs' senior season) He was then the coach for Dade County in Georgia for the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Obviously he is at SD this year. For those of you who may be unaware, Soddy and Red Bank are close in proximity and are heated rivals; so it was clearly a strange situation the first game of this season when he led the Trojans onto the field, Tom Weathers field, against the school he coached for something like 31 years. Sort of like a Rick Pitino to Louisville type of situation. That's about all I know about the situation; someone else who knows more may have to fill in some gaps. I guess the "retired" reference may be to the fact that he drew retirement income from Tennessee while he was coaching in Georgia. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Its turned out well for Soddy; he is a great coach. As a former player, I certainly wish I had the opportunity to play for him. Best of luck to both teams Friday night. Go Trojans.
  4. Grad is being serious. Tom Weathers' record...243-106 (70%) He last won a state title in 2000 with Red Bank...15-0 and finished #10 in the nation according to USA Today. Red Bank's field and a street on its campus are named after him. Clark has a great record...I don't think anyone will argure that. (I would hope not anyway) Weathers has a distinguished record as well.
  5. For the fourth straight week, Ooltewah didn't do much of anything offensively. I agree with their positioning in your poll, but I disagree with the statement that they would have beaten everyone on the list. Other teams played well also. Not really any sense in me arguing though, as nothing will ever be proved one way or the other. Good poll as usual.
  6. The people from Kingsport will see this Friday that this year's SD team is completely different. Especially offensively. That certainly doesn't necessarily mean the outcome will be any different at all, but Indian fans will hardly recognize this year's team.
  7. Those stats were from the Chatttanooga Times-Free Press. I just looked at the article about the game at www.chattanoogan.com and there are some slight inconsistencies with the statistics.
  8. Just want to provide some stats for the DB fans from the Soddy-Karns game last night. Final Score: SD 52 Karns 0 First Downs: SD 22 Karns 5 Total Yards: SD 404 Karns 123 Passing: SD 8-11 for 163 yards, 3 td 0 int Karns 1-7 29 yards 0 td 0 int Rushing: SD 44-241 yards Karns 27-94 yards Obviously the numbers don't mean anything, as the game was essentially over at the end of the first quarter (DB is very familiar with such a situation). SD only threw 11 passes, which is much lower than they normally throw. Most of the starters played maybe one or two series in the third quarter and were taken out of the game promptly when Karns decided to take cheap shots. The upcoming game should be very entertaining.
  9. I think you're crazy. Ooltewah is definitely the underdog, but there is no way the score will be anything like that.
  10. The jamboree between the "B" teams was last year, 2003 (it was at Tyner). I don't think jv or freshman games mean anything when comparing varsity teams, but Tyner did beat the crap out of Soddy in that jamboree. The year before (2002), however, the two varsity teams played each other in a jamboree up at Bradley Central. In a scrimmage that lasted a quarter with a running clock Soddy won 16-7 in a more convincing fashion than the score would indicate. And yes, Demonte Bolden did play in that jamboree.
  11. Thank you. My original statement turned out to be somewhat sarcastic, but I felt it was a point worth making--Ooltewah has the potential to be a really good team, but is a dangerous passing game away. You mention that it hasn't been much of a problem until the last several games, but I would argue that the competition has increased substantially. Early on in the season the passing game wasn't needed, and for whatever reason, I believe was neglected. I have never mentioned any players' names, nor do I intend to. Any single player cannot be singled out as the sole reason for the problem. I do not go to Ooltewah, and I do not have any connection to their team whatsoever. This is merely any observation I have made from seeing one game and looking at the stats from others. Good luck Friday.
  12. I beseech you to find any "moronic" statements made by me at any time on this website. You will find none, nor will you find anyone who hates me (except for yourself apparently). My statement was made in all seriousness. The passing numbers have been awful the last several weeks. vs. Soddy-Daisy 3-11, 1 interception vs. Oak Ridge 1-11, 2 interceptions vs. Farragut 3-13, 3 interceptions Ooltewah has a strong defense, particularly at linebacker. The Owls have a solid rushing attack. What are they missing? Maybe you "OwlsBaseball" can figure that out for me. I think they need a passing game. I suppose I may be wrong. Enlighten me.
  13. If the Owls learn how to throw and catch, they could at least make it interesting.
  14. I can't speak for the others, but I wasn't making excuses for the game. I apologize if some interpreted it that way. I said, "Oak Ridge has a good team and deserved to win the game." My point was merely that there is no way Gulmire would have run for over 300 yards no matter what the conditions were. In my opinion, Soddy and Oak Ridge were about even. Oak Ridge won the game; end of story.
