  1. Sorry for the typo...I know Tiffany Waters does not exist...Had Tiffany Walker and Nikki Waters on the brain...I'm sure you can see my thought pattern and mistake. I meant to say that Nikki was the best pitcher in the area.
  2. Maddie Schmissrauter is the better pitcher on the Baylor staff. I don't know if she will get the majority of the starts because she is a sophomore, but will be dominant. Brittany Rice will be completely overshadowed this season by Holly Thomas. That kid has all the ablility in the world and gets not results. The best pitcher in the Chattanooga area is Tiffany Waters. She will be better than she was last year and so will her team.
  3. when will the playday for chattanooga teams be held and where?

    E.R.A.

To calculate ERA you must take the entire inning into consideration. No runner that scores either by reaching on an error or being driven in by an error is earned. But also, if runs are scored in an inning that was prolonged by an error those runs are not earned either. You almost have to go backward through the inning to figure out earned or unearned runs. If logically the run would have scored regardless of an error it is earned.
  5. It's kind of hard to say that Soddy-Daisy is going to take a step back. They may end up coming up short again, but they will be very, very good. Nikki has worked very hard throughout the offseason and will come back a better pitcher than she was last season. She will also face 18U competition all summer, not that the 16U competition wasn't solid last summer. By the way, I'm not Nikki's dad or brother, I've never even met her, I'm just well-informed.
  6. Tiffany Walker went 2-0 in Colorado last summer. Her sister ended up being the ace on the Yankettes staff. For everyone saying all these great things about Tiffany Walker, wait until you see her this season. She will blow you away. Yes...she is going to Chattanooga State. She and a girl from N. GA will carry the pitching load this summer for the Yankettes. The Vaughns are some of the finest people I know.

    AA Predictions

I agree with Coach23 on one point. Sara Vaughn is amazing. If you have never seen this kid play, you have to go watch, it is a treat. I don't know enough about TN high school softball to comment directly on any team, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Vaughn put the team on her back again and make it to state. From what I've heard their pitching is not good enough to actuallly win it, but they make it back to the final eight without Tommee Hicks, what a testament to Vaughn. I've had the good fortune to be around alot of top level college softball for a while now, and Sara Vaughn is the real deal and will get it done on the next level.
  8. If you twisted my arm and made me, i'd have to go with the reigning Chattanooga Times-Free Press player of the year Nikki Waters
  9. "Solid" pitching and "dominant" pitching are two entirely different things. The teams with "dominant" pitching will make it to state and the other spots will be filled with the teams with "solid" pitching. Dominant pitching makes it to state WITHOUT a supporting cast. That's the truth. Please don't reply to me with one or two instances of this not being the case. There are always exceptions to every rule. "Solid" pitching needs a supporting cast for defense and that extra offense. Pitching is the name of the game in fastpitch. Look how dominant the pitching was in the WCWS for most of the teams. Other than Okllahoma, the pitchers for those teams had been great all season long. And usually teams don't "come out of nowhere" in softball unless a pitcher happens to "come out of nowhere". Examples * University of Texas goes to the WCWS in 2003 with sophomore Cat Osterman in the circle. Cat takes 2004 off to play on the US Olympic team. 2004 Texas team has less than .500 record. 2005 Texas team is already in the top 10 with Cat back. * University of Tennessee (huh, both UT's) 2003 team barely makes into their own conference tournament. 2004 Tennessee team wins over 50 games with Monica Abbott and comes one game from the WCWS with virtually the same supporting cast and a team that didn't exactly tear the cover off the ball, unlike this year's team. **There are so many average or below average defense and offense teams that succeed because of top notch pitchiing.
  10. Hard to argue that Danielle is not the number 1 pitcher in the state. She has won 50-something games in a row. It's also hard to make a case for anyone other than Goodpasture winning the A State Championship. Boyd does not have the pitching to compete with Goodpasture.
  11. There are alot of solid pitchers in Chattanooga, it might be hard to pin one down as the best. I think graceshooter might be a little biased in her assessment. I do think Tiffany will have the best season of her high school career this year though.
  12. Someone will have to carry the load on the mound for Ooltewah. Very anxious to see whether it will be Rice or Thomas (freshman). GPS will struggle in the circle. The sophomore, can't remember her name, is injury prone. I think Lamberson (transfer from Ooltewah) could be a good fit for them if GPS plays solid defense. She can keep a team off balance, but can't blow it by good hitters.

    Club K

Club K is one of the premier instruction facilities in the nation. I would especially recommend pitching instruction. Cheri Kempf (excuse the spelling) is one of the most accredited pitching instructors in the nation and all of Club K's instructors are trained by her. She wrote the pitching chapter in the NFCA Softball Coaching Bible. 2005 Signees Danielle Peroni (Goodpasture H.S.) University of Tennessee Laura Moore (Dade County H.S. , Georgia) Middle Tennessee State
  14. Can't imagine that there's anyone better than Sara Vaughn in Tennessee, maybe anywhere. In her first seven games of the season Sara batted .790 and hit 3 homeruns.Worked the entire offseason and put on 15 pounds of good weight. Those stats are lopsided and won't hold up over the course of a season, but wow, huh?
  15. I was hoping we could get some info on scrimmages in town and also hoping someone knew whether or not playday was rescheduled. Can't wait for the tourney coming up in a week and a half
  16. I've mentioned her name before. Brittany Rice, from Ooltewah is a sophomore. She really throws heat. Everyone better look out for her to shut teams down this year. If Coach Nelson can get some offense going this year(which she will with 8 of 9 starters returning) they are going to be really tough for the next three years. I hear she has a tremendous crop of talent moving up from the middle school as well.
  17. "Softball in the Fall" sounds great I know, but I hope you're not a football fan. Coached in GA this year and I think I saw maybe 4 UT games on tv. It killed me, but the weather is pretty good until its time for state. Seems like it's always raining though.
  18. That district is going to have to be careful with Ooltewah this year. Brittany Rice, sophomore, is throwing 64-65 consistently. Norma started six freshman last year, graduated one senior, and has some quality freshman coming up to fill the holes she had last year. None of these things are a recipe for sure success, just look out.

    correction

Ooltewah did not beat Maryville. They beat Sweetwater in the first round of Gold Bracket play.
  20. All three pitchers on Ooltewah's staff are freshman. The workhorse has been Brittany Rice bringing heat when she's on, with an incredible rise. The stud shortstop, Dana Kurtly, is only a sophomore. They have really come into their own over the last two weeks. They finished third in Kingsport two weekends ago and beat Beech and Maryville in the Soddy Tournament. They had played almost twenty games in nine days and Rice's arm, I'm sure, was jello. Norma Nelson's assistant coach on the team is UTC standout from 2002, Jill Crawford. Look out for this bunch to possibly make a run at the end of this season, but definitely for the next three years.
  21. As I was saying in the other thread, te score on the court is what matters. I don't think anyone's arguing that you had the largest or loudest "cheering" section. Both school's cheerleaders are good, but I know Ooltewah has at least two that can out tumble Soddy's. Good luck to both teams!

    112

everyboy weigh-in on who's the best 112 in the state I've got my money on Gooden if he stays aggressive. He absolutely smoked Simpson. If he would wrestle every match upset off like he did Geismar no one else in TN would have a chance
