Case: 1, The principal has 7 days to say yes or no, if they veto you can appeal to the TSSAA and if you have said medical                  opinions then that principal will likely be overruled.

Case: 2, Well if they state they are transferring because he got cut it's an automatic no go because you can't transfer for                  athletic reasons. That's what it says in the ruling.

This is no different than the current rule

    Boy you are hardheaded.

You are arguing with me over something I didn't say.

The current rule requires a hardship appeal for a non zone transfer. Those appeals aren't always granted.  Under the new rule it's automatic eligibility as long as the system accepts the student as a transfer.

lol OK I think we are reading 2 different things... when the bylaw states that the "sending" school must approve the transfer as a no athletic reason transfer, then that is never gonna happen... The way I read the bylaw, it is not automatic eligible unless the "SENDING"  school says that its for non athletic reasons... the new bylaw doesn't say anything about the school where the kid is transfer to.

Yes, and that's what I said earlier.

You asked if it was different from the current hardship rule.

Yes, it is, for the reasons I gave.  No residency is necessary, and no appeal for hardship is necessary as long as the system approves the enrollment.

Yes the "sending" school... has to approve... and change of residency doesn't require a hardship... I cant find any difference in the new bylaw and the old

No "sending" school is gonna say its not for athletic reasons unless they don't care if the kid leaves.

Yes.  Hardships have to be approved, and they aren't always approved.  Plus they take time.

With the new rule it's a slam dunk immediate eligibility as long as the student is allowed by the system to enroll.

I thought the article says the school has to say that it isn't for athletic reasons???? Did I not read that??

    Here is the QUOTE:

The new bylaw allows students one free transfer to another school due to reasons of significant academic, social-emotional, environmental or mental health need as long as the sending school’s administration could attest the move is not for athletic or disciplinary reasons.

That is the same as it is now

College players now have right to transfer if there’s a coaching change. High school kids should have the same right. That’s no different than taking a private school voucher and transferring to a private school . It’s not quitting if you are doing what you think is best for your kids. High school kids only have 4 years of high school eligibility.college kids have a minimum of 5 to get in 4  but that rule is deceiving . They can transfer after 4 years for a year of graduate school eligibility. Through in Covid and now we have a ton of 6 year seniors destroying high school kids chance for college football with the new roster limit of 105.  I read where Utah qb is asking ncaa for an 8th year of eligibility. Pass the law allowing kids 1 time transfer before tssaa is taken to court , loses , and government changes law to allowing unlimited transfers ….. Tennessee qb played at 3 different high schools in California

I don't think anyone thinks college has it the way it should be now... I truly hope the college debacle doesn't trickle down to high school

  6. The magnet schools definitely have the potential to be a gold mine.  They select kids to come to their school "randomly" based on certain criteria.  If they figure out how to let the right ones in and control the number they let in (which they do), then they could easily get 10 D1 guys to come and play in whatever class they decide to cut the number off at.

  7. I think there has to be something done about the academies and the COOPs.  If School A has 390 kids... and school B has 420 but gets a COOP from a school that has 500 then it will be extremely hard to compete against a team pulling its players from a pool of over twice as many student.  And then the academy thing... regardless of who is doing it or what reason they attach to it, A big % of the schools doing it are using it to drop a class in athletics.  Granted that's not the only reason it may have been started, it is a LOOP HOLE the the TSSAA needs to fix.

I think the thing that bothers me and maybe some others... is the fact that the TSSAA ADMIN and BOC all knew about this loop hole and knew it was being used as a get around to drop classes but it was allowed to stay a loop hole until word got out... now that say its to late to address it, and next opportunity will be 4 years away when hopefully people are upset about something else and forget about it.

It would be generous to say that Red Boiling Springs brought 50 people to South Pittsburg. That's chump change, therefore you are wrong.  The refs don't work for free.  TSSAA is whining and messing around with scheduling due to the referee situation next year.  They past 2 years they have been forcing the Thursday night schtick.  Don't insult me with this idea that 1st Round Mudstomping Bowl games are big money makers for the TSSAA.

They don't just make money of the RBS people ... those So Pitt faithful buy tickets too... and yes they pay about 1k for officials at most... so while its not millions 2k times 16 is 32k from 1A 32k for 2A 32k from 3A and so on ... that 192k from 1st round games that if they cut teams getting in back the TSSAA would not receive... and that on the low end... some of those 23 matchups bring big money in

I agree something has to be done... its terrible, but TSSAA is making money off of it and that's why it wont go away

  9. T$$AA is never gonna do anything to cut revenue, so the 32 teams is here to stay ... I just don't understand not making things as equitable as possible for ALL schools... Yes you will always have maybe 1 region with 1 more team or whatever , but to have a 4 team region and an 8 team region in the same class is ridiculous... Having 16 out of 19 make it on 1 side of the bracket and 16 out of 27  make it on the other makes no sense... Having a 4 team region siting travel being the reason and then making another school have 4 trips over 2 hours in another .... I would love to be in the room and hear some of the justifications of these decisions because to me there is none

In Region 6 you would have both Humboldt and West Carroll driving over 2 hours for region games at Collinwood when they both could be Region 7 and the farthest they drive is to Lake County, 1 hour or so away?

Yep but the there would be 4 teams in 6 and 8 teams in 7

It happens all the time with the change in cycles, It just means some teams might have had to travel this year and then will end up traveling next year (year 1) as well in order to balance out the home and aways within the regions. Now if it said they would travel both of the next two years in the same cycle I would have worried about it and asked the same question.

I think they will listen to appeals still at the board meeting, but they typically do not change anything when it comes to what they set region wise, might end up changing one or two but the majority will end up stuck. If I remember correctly a few years back Bolton got put in 7-3A instead of 8-3A and appealed to play the teams within 10-20 mins of them instead of traveling 1:30 hours almost every trip and were denied. TSSAA think they do not mess up, or do not care when they do. lol

But schools wont know if they need to appeal until the regions come out and they are coming out until the meeting... I believe this school within a school to hide numbers has got them reeling and they don't know what to do with them .

  12. New Thought after all the moving...

Region 1 - Cloudland, Cosby, Hampton, Hancock Co, N. Green, Unaka, Jellico

(This sucks for Jellico but they have been doing it and they don't fit anywhere else)

Region 2 - Coalfield. Clay Co, Oliver Springs, Red Boiling Springs, Sunbright, Wartburg

Region 3 - Greenback, Harriman, Midway, Oakdale, Rockwood, Sale Creek

Region 4 - Copper Basin, Huntland, Lookout Valley, Moore Co, South Pitt, Whitwell

(This sucks for Huntland & Moore Co, But if they wanna keep regions somewhat balanced its only option)

Region 5 - Cornersville, Eagleville, Fayetteville, Innovation Academy, Jo Byrns, Richland

Region 6 - Collinwood, Hollow rock-Bruceton, Humbolt, Perry Co, Wayne Co, West Carroll

Region 7 - Dresden, Gleason, Greenfield, Lake Co, McKenzie, So Fulton

Region 8 - Booker T Washington, KIPP, Manassas, Middleton, Memphis Middle, Oakhaven, Westwood
