  1. Congratulations to Fulton High School. Coach Coatney did a great job getting his team back to the 'Boro. I would like to especially congratulate Bob Black, a long time coach who has been at Fulton since the Mayflower. I know that he is very happy with the year. It is good to see a great man get the ring. B)

  2. Officiating a game is very difficult, I am sure. The fact that most of these guys are fat and out of shape makes it that much more difficult. However, there is little or nothing done about officials who make horrible calls. Players have to live with these bad calls and can even have their football careers ended by questionable or outright wrong calls. On a graver note, coaches can lose their jobs based on wins and losses, and a call can cause a coach to lose his way of providing for a family. I just wish there was a way these officals could have this emphasised to them.

As for the playoffs, I think the officals should not have called any games involving the two playoff teams that year.

  3. If snagglepuss is a MoWest fan, then he represents the typical, old school Trojan fan. I thought after a few wins, the West fans would know how to win. I guess not all of them can get rid of the fact that they are one way mfers. If it is going good, they are total . If they lose, they cannot be found. ;)

  4. I do not think that Coach Gray will be offered another job in the Blount Co. after last year with Alcoa. The school board was prepared to wave their policy on years of experience. They were bending over backwards for him and then he turned them down. If I am in Blount Co., I would not even consider him, even though he is a quality coach.

  5. It seems to me that high school football runs in cycles lasting about 10 years. In the 1970s, Oak Ridge and Tennessee High ruled East TN football. Then, in the 1980s, Jefferson County and Rhea County dominated. In the 1990s, Oak Ridge returned, along with Knox Central. Sevier County had a good five year run, and Kingsport has been consistent in the later part of the 1990s until the present. After this group of seniors, they seem to be on their way down. The same patterns can be seen in Murfreesboro with Oakland and Riverdale. Memphis has seen Germantown rise and fall and then comeback. My point is that maryville has had a great run and they may have some time left on their cycle, but sooner or later the well will run dry.

  6. Ok, Prove It !

    WacoJaco,

Look at college football rosters and pay attention to the states these playes are from. Not too many from TN. Most are from FL, TX, CA, and MS. Too many more post and people will be calling you WackoJacko

  7. No doubt the fullback will deserve a look. As I stated on a previous thread, he took over every game I have seen him play for the past two years. I also think the Gaines kid may get a look (he may only be a Jr. though). Next year, the QB and the Williams kid (maybe) will be DI caliber recruits.

  8. This game will go to the team that is able to relax and play their game. Riverdale has been here a lot, Oak Ridge has not been this far lately. Edge to Riverdale. Game is at the 'Ship. Edge to Oak Ridge. Early mistakes will prove costly in a game between to really good teams with great coaches. My gut tells me Riverdale, 17-13.

  9. I don't think anyone said he didn't shake Coach Clark's hand (I know I didn't), he didn't shake the assistants hands, nor the players...again maybe a couple, as previously stated on another thread...but proper sportsmanship was not shown.

    Roll Tribe Roll

    Skunk,

I have watched 1000s of games and do not recall ever seeing a coach, head or assistant, shake all the players hands. If you watch games on TV, the head coaches shake hands and then it is off to the dressing room. This ain't little league. I am sure that Coach Clark doesn't shake hands with all the players or coaches all the time. The fact is that you did state on another thread that Coach Hutchins did not shake hands after this game. Own up to your posts.

  10. Havind watched both of these regions for a few years, I must say that Region 2 is better from top to bottom. DB and Jeff. Co. are quality teams, but the teams in region 2 must bring their "A" games every week. There are no Campbell countys or Karnses in region 2.

  11. I dont know if the two coaches shook hands, I am sure they did.

I was at the game and a lot of the fans were shouting to run up the score and get another touchdown. There was two reasons for this:

    1. The constant moaning of the McMinn coach to the officials late in the game when you had already lost. The officials are not perfect but leave off them when the actions and decisions are not going to effect the result of the game.

    2. The terrible hit that some of the McMinn players did on a punt to #21 Moten, they just took him out, no concern for the ball or player, they were mad they were getting beat and they were going to hurt someone. The most disturbing thing was when these players ran off the field the coaching staff and players could be seen slapping them on the back acknowledging a good job.

I was on the sideline, and I can assure you no coach on McMinn's staff congratulated the player for the late hit. In fact, Coach Hutchins meet the player at the numbers and got on him pretty hard. The player was a senior and was very frustrated (not an excuse for his behavior) and lost his cool. As for the questioning of the official, I did hear that exchange. Coach Hutchins was asking the official on MC's sideline why it was a 15 yard penalty. The same call went against DB in the first half and was a five yard penalty. The head official explained it was ruled a personal foul (correctly so to be honest) and that was that.

  12. Congratulations on winning a "state championship". No disrespect to the job the coaches and players from MBA put in, but my problem is with the TSSAA and the divisions they have created. MBA won a title over 6 other teams from across the state. Oak Ridge had to defeat more than that to win its REGION!! The TSSAA must come up with a better plan than this. To only have to win 3 games in the "play-offs" (all the teams make it so how is this a playoff) to win a state title is not fair.

  13. I am happy to see some high school coaches showing the "tough love" some of today's athletes need. Maybe by missing this game, Lamon will not turn out to be Keyshawn Johnson. Earlier this year, George Quarles suspended a couple of players for the first Knox Central game, and I have heard others suspending players who are not with the "team" concept. I hope this teaches athletes at a young age to act with some sense.

  14. Please do not judge all of McMinn County by the actions of one "idiot kicker who got liquored up and posted none sense on the internet". I, along with the coaches at McMinn wish both the teams luck Friday night in what should be a great game.
