  1. I'll come back, I don't think that anyone would question my age. As long as Arthel isn't the umpire... [edit] I just noticed that this is my 601st post...do I have a life?
  2. ...so Art, are you an importer or an exporter?
  3. I'd say that's a pretty nice showcase right there. Doing it with the arms, sticks, and gloves apparently. Good job Falcons, one more conference win to the tally...
  4. I'm not sure what you meant by that comment, although Gate City does get a lot of press coverage by both the Kingsport Times-News and the Bristol Herald Courier. Just got in from our games tonight, waiting on hearing the results from Hawkins County way... Not sure why I'm being called a joke though, but it is the KINGSPORT Times News as you said. I'd just like to see a little less bias in it.
  5. Hitting their spots, controlling their emotions, good conditioning, pitching ahead, and not getting beat on 0-2 counts
  6. I picking South Doyle on this one...
  7. Cougarman, when did you graduate from Central? And is your name T.J. by any chance? I'd like to see the Falcons put a good game on the table against the Cougars. Honestly, it should be a good game between these two teams. Any word on who the starting pitchers will be? [edit]: I just got through reading some of the old Volunteer Falcons basketball threads and had a good laugh about D-B people talking smack...until the Indians lost, and then they just didn't talk. Not all D-B/Kingsport people are like that, but for the ones that are it was pretty funny. And just to clarify, I was at the game that we beat D-B in 2001, and it was a great feeling to beat them, but you could talk to the head of athletics at D-B yourself and ask them why they keep cancelling games with Volunteer (when they aren't CERTAIN that they will win). Some insider info tells you that it's embarassing for the school, the community, and the local newspaper to put Volunteer over D-B in the sports page. It's all about the politics, and I tried to change that when I was at Volunteer, but it didn't help much. If D-B has an off-day, then Volunteer might get in the paper, but as long as D-B has a game they will be the headline shot. It doesn't matter who is winning, it matters where the money is coming from. So keep playing Falcons, and no offense intended to D-B players/fans, but that's just the way the City of Kingsport is ran (whether any of us like it or not).
  8. I belileve that's the section that I was in control of last year. I'm not sure whether I will be supervising that section again this year or not. I just want to have a radio and a golf cart again, because walking up and down between 12 concession stands isn't fun. One thing for this year though is to make SURE that you ID everyone buying beer, because they are having a sting operation this year for sure. I don't get in trouble, but the person selling the beer gets arrested on the spot. And you can have a donation jar, but you can't verbally ask people for donations (make sure you lock the jars down with something, because 1 almost got stolen last year, but someone talked the guy).
  9. D-B's baseball team was one of the groups under my territory last year. Pretty sure it was their JV team though.
  10. This could be a little off topic, but I was wondering which teams will be at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. I know that quite a few high school and college teams work the race for fundraisers each year. Last year I saw some groups from Northeast Tennessee (different sports). I know that it can bring in quite a bit of money for the local teams that choose to work it. I'll be one of the Area Supervisors up there this week for the race. I'll be the bald guy with the goatee (the only one of the supervisors that looks like that). If I'm in charge of your area we won't have problems as long as I get plenty of nachos.

  12. Honestly, I would rather use no batting gloves when I hit. I did in high school, but I never liked them much. When I ran bases though, I wanted the one with the best cushion on the palms, and the most tear-resistant. Now when I run the bases (pitchers don't bat at my college), I just run without them.
  13. The only thing to be ashamed about would be using illegal bats and only scoring 5 runs. Good try, but you'll have to find something better than that. LOL, your post made me laugh. I needed that after a rainy day and lots of homework, thanks cougarman...
  14. If there are any corrections that need to be made to these standings, please bring this to my attention in a polite manner. I have only taken scores reported on CoachT.com, and some of the games between Watagua Conference opponenets were not marked as "Distict" games

Score? Hampton 5, Johnson Co. 8
  16. "VHS085", you know "Dobyns" is right. No need to stoop that low, "BWANG" is doing enough to make himself look bad without anyone adding any input. I think it should be a good year in the Watauga Conference. -Volunteer, Sullivan North, and Happy Valley all look strong -I haven't heard a lot about Unicoi County's team, but they usually put together a pretty good ball club -I heard that Hampton looks better this year, but I'm not sure how much better, but we'll see -I'm not sure what Sullivan Central, Elizabethton, or Johnson County has though, so I can't say a lot about those teams. The conference might be pretty much up for grabs this year, I'm excited to see how it turns out. I'll be truthful and say that I'm pulling for the Falcons though.
  17. Thank You. Houseal is playing for us up at VI now, he has some of the best work ethic on our team. We'll be playing against Cruze and Elliott in the future. I know that there are some Jeff Co. boys on the Emory & Henry roster too, so we'll be seeing them tomorrow @ DeVault Stadium. From the local college rosters it looks like Jeff Co. has been turning out some good players yearly. How about this year's graduating class? Who all in that group is looking to play on the college level? Honestly, I am more familiar with the Jeff Co. softball team through scouting for them, but the baseball program seems pretty solid too.
  18. Who all did Jeff Co. lose from last year's team?
  19. It was always Volunteer and Sullivan North when we played, there was nothing better than beating those guys (even more so than beating Cherokee), but losing to them was the worst feeling that we could ever have. But the best games were always when we (Volunteer) played Rutledge. A lot of 1-run baseball games when we played the Pioneers.
  20. I only have one thing to tell the Falcon Faithful in regards to the words and taunts coming from Blountville way. When someone flips you the bird, that is the perfect time to be the bigger man by looking them straight in the eye, smile, and wave at them with all 5 fingers and a WIN in your pocket...
  21. We had a True Freshman team at my high school in Volunteer back in 1999 when I was a freshman, and we had about 15 games or so that year. That's in District 1 in East Tennessee though. We never had any games again anyone outside East Tennessee, but there was some kind of a freshman team tournament my junior year. Haven't heard anything from Middle Tennessee though, but that's a good question.
  22. Positive posts are a good thing to place on here, but I don't remember taking any shots at you there bud. If you misunderstood any of my posts, then I will apologize for that. Sounds like we're on the same team here though. Now to the point of this post...what is so different about this year's Falcons? We always had good players when I was there. Our players were good enough to win ball games, but what we were missing was team chemistry. From what I have heard, the 2005 Falcons are playing some team ball and we have people stepping up when it counts. There are a lot of naysayers on this board and in the community, but that isn't anything new. There has never been a lot of belief that the Volunteer Falcons could be anything coming from anyone outside of Falcon nation. The media and other schools have never really respected the baseball program at Volunteer, but now they will. I've already heard some things coming from the Blountville way, and a few things coming from the Rog-Vegas area, but the results are coming in from East Hawkins County, and that's what matters. I'm not sure when I'll be able to actually be able to make a game, but I'm trying to bring the coaches along too, because we'll take good ball players wherever we can get them. I'd love to have at least one more Falcon on the VI team next year, and maybe more. And with the way these boys are playing, that is a good possibility. I'm really enjoying being able to get on Coacht.com and see how my old school is doing, but I just wish that the Times-News would open up their biased eyes and realize that Eastern Hawkins County has a baseball team out there that some people are wanting to read about. We've had teams in the past with players that are as good as this 2005 group, but I don't think that the Falcons have ever worked together as well as they are this year. Team chemistry is what seperates good teams from great teams, so let's be a great team this year. Now when I wear my old Volunteer Baseball shirts around campus, there are some local people talking. Let all other teams know that the Falcons are for real. Take your season one game at a time, take each game one out at a time, and live each pitch like it will be your last. Good luck to the Falcons for the rest of the year, and keep me posted on the season. And yeah, we got "roo rooed" pretty bad. Ask Franklin what "roo rooed" is, he might remember. The only people at Volunteer now that I played with are the Seniors. And wearing that Falcon blue doesn't seem to bring the best out in the umpires, but that's always been a constant in Falcon Nation. Just remember to respect the game, and it will respect you...
  23. I feel you on getting "roo rooed". We had HORRIBLE umpires up at UVA-Wise today. Three of our first six outs weren't outs at all. Coach had enough in the 7th inning when Spina (from TN High) got called out trying to steal third, he was definitely safe with no question. Coach asked the field umpire if there was any way that he could just leave and us play with one umpire, and that our team was battling our heart out but that he had killed every rally that we had tried to put together. This happens everytime we go to Wise though, never fails. My freshman year coach was ejected, and for arguing a very good cause. Our coach doesn't say anything unless it is absolutely needed, and today it was needed. I know that Coach Cloud and Coach McLain will stick up for their players when it is needed too. I always loved having them two as coaches. Coach McLain had me for a few years before high school though, and then on the football field which was fun (as fun as Mount Venable could be during summer 2-a-days). I miss those guys...take care of them...
  24. Not sure how it will go, but good luck to Hixson. Personally, I would be pumped about the LSU-Auburn game.
  25. Can we get a post about the score and what all happened? Sounds like a loss, but still someone find the positives about the game and post some. Depending on what time I get back from UVA-Wise tomorrow, I might end up at the games. Keep trying to get out there and support my old team. [edit] Well...if you have that early of a start then I won't make it. Our games don't start until 2:00pm tomorrow.
