  1. Is this the first year for the clinic? If they had one last year, was it done well? Is it worth the $40 dollars per day. (For Middle and High School) [Edited by 12NCS on 3-28-03 2:30P]
  2. I do not believe many were questioning his ability. I think we were questioning his ability to attend classes and impress the coaches during the pre-spring morning workouts. These were the issues at hand a few weeks ago. He obviously has talent and the injuries will give him the reps he needs. He and his father must have taken Fulmer's sit-down talk seriously.

    Stratford news

The interviews for the Stratford job are set for April 2. I believe there are 4 candidates to be interviewed. Broome is probably frontrunner, but who knows, maybe a darkhorse could get the position?
  4. Are their any camps in the Nashville area this summer or spring?
  5. Brandon is an excellent player with tremendous talent. He should be at Hillwood which is where he is zoned to go to school. He was recruited by BA and they made a deal with his family to get both him and his brother. He may not be getting a free ride but it is close. Admit it WesVols, the proof unfortunately is out there. Too many of the AAU people talk. Secrecy is hard to keep when you deal with many of these kids and the AAU summer scene. I do not blame BA. Maybe they should contact Auri Allen since he withdrew from MBA.
  6. MBA, BA, Germantown, Dickson Co, Oak Ridge, Antioch, Hunters Lane, Brentwood, and Overton. Riverdale and Oakland would be considered. Look for Ensworth and Pope John Paul II to be up there soon. Melrose ,Memphis East and Maryville should be up there. Milan is usually good as is Covington, Portland and David Lipscomb
  7. You have a very good question regarding whether or not to hold him back. I have some friends who were held back at BA and it turned out well for them. If you see a football scholarship in his future, then he probably should be held back. If you, or your son don't care about a scholarship, then allow him to continue with his friends in his correct grade. I could have used an extra year in HS or Middle School to grow. I developed greatly from my Senior HS year to my Redshirt Freshman year in College. Metro Nashville has an age cut off date to insure that many older 15 year olds will be inelligible. You have 4 semesters once you enter the 7th grade to compete in Middle School athletics.
  8. I believe this position will go to a younger coach. This job has many challenges that will keep many older, already established coaches away. When was the last time Stratford went to the playoffs? Will Broome apply or is he happy at McGavock? I would assume that Smith at Ezell probably has burnt his bridges in Metro with the recent article in the paper.
  9. Has anyone else noticed how calls at Hillsboro always go their way. Am I being paranoid about this or have any of you experienced this as well? Basketball, Football, it doesn't matter. I heard the Maplewood BBall game their was horribly officiated.
  10. The success at McGavock will not come from Armstrong's coaching alone. If they are to be successful, it will because of the assistants he either can retain or bring in. The coaching staff transition will be easier at Hunters Lane and Glencliff. McGavock and Stratford may take a step back in order to move forward. I do not look for Stratford or McGavock to make the playoffs next year. I saw Stratford play this past year and it appears that they have decent talent but an ancient offensive philosophy. They were fundamentally sound and that probabley is attributed to Coach Campbells work ethic and expectations. By the way, how does Stratford afford to purchase equipment, security and travel expenses when their Security concerns pull a tremendous amount from the Athletic Budget. Do they get PTA help or help from local businesses? Maybe a Stratford coach could comment about this issue?
  11. Why go to the past 12 years? If you want to go to the deep past, we can, and it shows you are way, way behind the Tide. We can go to the immediate past and see 34-14 drubbing you took at your own house this past October. You can type whatever you would like if it makes you feel better about your poor, poor season. Pre-season number 1 or 2 by Herbstreet along with Oklahoma and then to get embarrased by an ACC team in the bowl game looks real good on Fulmer's resume. Go ahead and jump on the Bama bandwagon, we know you want to chear for a winner. Cheat Vols Cheat. Have fun losing to Georgia for the 4th time in 4 years. Have fun down in the swamp and down in Tuscaloosa. Auburn will drub you guys this year as well. Have fun in beautiful Miami as well. Your future sure is bright, not!!!
  12. Ripnrun followed closely by the shadow with the answerking trailing.
  13. The 34-14 loss you took in Knoxville is hard to swallow from a team that is as low as it has been in 20 years. Just think how bad the Tide will own UT when scholarships are equal.

    riggs

Coach Chavis' son would probably not like you saying that they cheat in order for Riggs to stay elligible. I think that is what you are saying. I apologize if i interpreted that wrong. By the way, how did he get into school to begin with? There is no doubt that he is very gifted athletically. His workout habits seem to be getting him into some trouble. I believe a sit down was necessary with his father this spring to address these matters. We will see if it worked. I predict that he will never start over Houston or Davis. We will see.
  15. We are all making predictions based on incoming talent. Some kids will become lazy and some will grow stronger. Who knows how they will do in the new school they go to. It is up to the High School Head Coach to have a data base of his incoming 9th graders in order to get them physicals in the beginning of summer in order to condition them for Fall ball. Some coaches will do their homework and others will not. Some Middle Schoolers will move addresses in order to play for their Coach/School of choice. Some Middle Schoolers will play AAU basketball this summer and be recruited to BA, MBA, or Pope John Paul II. This is only for the Middle Tennessee area. I am not familiar with East and West Tennessee Freshman ball.

    Metro Football

Gra-Mar (Maplewood's feeder went 7-0) lost to J.T. Moore (Hillsboro)in City Championship. Dalewood (Stratford feeder went 6-0) lost to J.T. Moore in Playoff. JFK (Antioch feeder went 6-0) lost to Gra-Mar in Playoff. Antioch will be the team to beat in my opinion. Hillsboro will be tough as will Hunter's Lane again. HL will not be as good as the previous two years. Antioch has Apollo, Antioch and JFK schools to feed their program. That is a large talent pool to choose from.
  17. 34-14 hurts, but lets realize that no lies or rumors are being spilled. Truth hurts. Yes, the truth about Bama cost them 3 recruiting classes and the SEC Championship game this year. The truth will probably not come out until Kramer and Dickey are dead, like Diane Sanford's husband. I guess Ed Martin at Michigan didn't give Webber any money either. Wake up and take responsibility for your cheating program. It is interesting that Georgia is in the news for rules violations now that they have beaten the Vols for the last 3 years in a row.

    Metro Jobs?

That Janitor job with the free cheetos sounds like a step up the ladder for many on this board. Pretty funny Shadow. I am predicting that Hillsboro and Antioch will battle it out for the Western Championship in Freshman ball next year with Antioch pulling it out. Antioch has the numbers coming from a great feeder in JFK Middle School. They also get Apollo and Antioch Middle School talent. Hunters Lane will again be solid but will have to deal with an improved Maplewood squad. Maplewood may need to move up their best Freshman to compete with the Varsity next year depending on their talent.

    riggs

Riggs has tremendous talent. He has already upset the coaches at UT. I played for Coach McCorvey in College and I know he has higher expectations for the RB position than many other coaches on their staff. Riggs has been a disappointment in their morning workouts. He has not been a leader or shown that he has the desire to compete on this level. Sometimes when you help a student out too much, they tend to expect that help from then on. There is too much competition at UT and at RB in the SEC to be a weak practice player. He will not play much next year if he can not pick up a blitzing LB.

    Metro Jobs?

Mike Jones is the former Titan DE/DL. He is the father of Steven Jones of Brentwood HS/UT signee. He supposedly interviewed with McGavock. I'm sure that Coach Fulmer wrote him a nice letter of recommendation. I know for a fact that he met with Bowers at Metro's Human Resources looking for employment. I heard his name was floating around at McGavock for their Head Coaching Position.

    Metro Jobs?

How long will we wait for the McGavock position decision? Then the trickle down effect for assistant jobs will be the next thing we will talk about. Will HL, Glencliff and McGavock bring in any outside coaches with them. Will the new coaches have to make do with the staff that is in place already. It is my opinion that Glencliff's staff will remain the same with Wilson coaching his modified Wing-T and Abner coaching his 4-3 scheme on D. HL will be the tricky one. They may keep the same staff if Campbell is hired. Would this be a smooth transition or will it be more like it was last year? Do they run the Wishbone like Stratford did or do they run the Wing-T like Coach Brown likes. If Armstrong gets the McGavock position, is it likely that some assistants will leave? I do not understand why the McGavock hire is taking so long. Is it Armstrong, Jones or Smith? Who does Tribue want? I thought it was his decision. Is Principal Tribue going to be at McGavock for the long haul or is he scheduled to move to another school soon.

    Metro Jobs?

Hunters Lane- Campbell, Brown McGavock-Armstrong,Smith Glencliff-Abner Hey Answerman: Does Smith have a TN teaching Cert.? How about Mike Jones (former Titan DL)? How long before Link leaves Hillwood?
  23. Maplewood's freshman team should be good. Gra-Mar and Jere Baxter will join to make up their team. Jere Baxter was highly competitive this year in football and basketball. JFK went undefeated until they played Gra-Mar in Football. They lost 16-0 to Gra-Mar. They did however have an excellent team. They just got beat by a better ball club. Moore was good but their best player will be attending MBA as a Freshman (Sorry Mose Philips) Hillsboro will still do very well. Hunters Lane will be solid again but they will definitely not beat Antioch next year if they play. I do not care who the coach is. It will not matter this year. Antioch's freshman team will be awesome next year if they do not lose any players to Coach Smith at Ezell Harding. Gra-Mar beat both Hunters Lane feeder schools in Goodletsville and Brich Church and both Whites Creek feeder schools in Joelton and Ewing Park. Dalewood was solid so Stratford should be OK if they all are eligible.
  24. 560 am is a much better medium for sports talk. They have more informed callers and better informed hosts.
  25. Hillsboro, Maplewood, and Antioch will be good. Hunters Lane always has athletes.
