  3. Coaches, Wrestlers, and Parents: It's that time of year again...the off-season! As we all sit down and begin to plan, organize, and schedule our off-season practices, workouts, and competitions, please make any of your athletes that may be interested aware that we (Bradley Wrestling/Bradley Pride Wrestling Club in conjunction w/ Science Hill and Heritage wrestling) will once again be putting the Appy Elite GOLD and RED teams together to compete in the inaugural 2017 King of the Hill Duals (Johnson City, TN) on March 17-19. The Appy Elite GOLD team is typically composed of state champions and state medalists from any division w/in TN and GA. We try to cap the roster off between 16-20 kids maximize mat time. Appy Elite RED team is usually composed of state medalists, state qualifiers, and up-and-coming freshmen or varsity starters looking for high quality off-season competition. Again, this team is open to anyone interested and is capped at 16-20 wrestlers as well. Two years ago, our numbers were so good that we actually put together a third Appy Team, Appy Elite BLACK that was primarily composed of returning starters, up-and-coming freshman, and potential starters for their respective teams. Lastly, our numbers for 2016 were at an all time high and we composed a fourth Appy Team, Appy Elite GRAY, which had a similar composition to Appy Elite Black. This will be our fifth year competing under the Appy Elite banner and we have been extremely competitive every year finishing as Tournament AND Pool B champions at last years Dixie Duals. Past years teams have included wrestlers from the following schools: Bradley, Heritage (TN), Science Hill, Cleveland, Bearden, Greeneville, Alcoa, Wilson Central, Beech, East Hamilton, Hixson, Siegel, and William Blount. If interested, please email me at bmsmith@bradleyschools.org w/ your name, weight class (weigh-ins at KOTH are +5), and state finish or placing. I've already been contacted at the State Tournament by several former Appy Elite Wrestlers, so I'm anticipating this filling up quick. As soon as the roster is complete, I'll release it. Details and cost will be narrowed down and released shortly. We try to keep this as cost effective as possible, but you MUST have a USAW card to compete. Thanks in advance, Ben Smith Bradley Wrestling/BPWC

  5. Due to low numbers and lack of interest, the Mid-South Masters FS/Greco tournament has been cancelled. If you have already registered on Trackwrestling, we have already began taking the proper steps in the getting refunds issued. Please be patient as we begin to navigate through this process. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope to get a different weekend for next FS/Greco season. Ben Smith Bradley Wrestling

  11. Any word on an official schedule that is posted anywhere yet? Also, I heard that the Best of the Best will be at Summit. Any word on if that's correct or not? Lastly, we'll hosting a SE Regionals tune-up at Bradley on Saturday, May 21. Flyers and info to be posted ASAP. Ben Smith Bradley Wrestling
  12. Got ya! Understood. I cannot speak for the West team, but the East did not have any wrestle-off's for a spot in the lineup. Had there been a need for any wrestle-offs for the East, I would have allowed them the +5 that would be allotted them for the East/West dual. As far as certified officials, IF the wrestle-off/s were to take place at either BCHS or LFMS, we have used one our middle school coaches who are also TSSAA, AAU, and USAW officials. But, as I mentioned, thankfully we didn't have this situation arise on our side.
  13. 2016 Dixie Duals update for Appy Elite: Appy GOLD (first team) - Gold bracket Champion (and OVERALL champion) over Alabama Wrestling Club Blue in the finals 38-20 Appy RED (second team) - Silver bracket Third...great weekend for this team. This was a tough team in a tough bracket! Appy BLACK (third team) - Bronze bracket Champion...very solid weekend for this team. Appy GRAY (fourth team) - Bronze bracket Runner-up...lost to Appy Black for the Bronze bracket championship. Very impressed by this team composed of primarily underclassmen (most of which have not started yet in TN), up-and-comers, and a few eighth graders. Summary: Nearly 65+ wrestlers from 14+ different schools representing two states (we had one GA boy) spread out over FOUR Appy teams...WOW!!! What a weekend!!! A huge S/O and THANK YOU to the coaches who traveled down and help coach our boys: Ethan Hames (Bradley, LFMS, Pride WC), Lee Varnell (Bradley, LFMS, Pride WC), Travis Creagan (Bradley, Pride WC), Ryan Ensminger (Bradley, LFMS, Pride WC), Dakota Bromley (Ooltewah/Bradley), Caleb Myers (S. Hill), Twee Myers (S. Hill), Phillip Maxwell (Gibbs, Talon WC), Jerry "Jerr-Bear" Teaster (Heritage), and Mikey Binns (King, Heritage). Without these guys, NO WAY this trip happens. Thank you for helping us pull this off and thank you to all of the parents/guardians who allowed us the opportunity to work and compete w/ your boys. The Gold Bracket Championship Finals is as follows: Appalachian Elite GOLD vs Alabama Wrestling Club Blue Match Summary AEG AWCB 111 Alex Thomas (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) over Dillon Pendley (Appalachian Elite GOLD) Fall 0:20 0 6.00 118 TJ Hicks (Appalachian Elite GOLD) over Max Kaufman (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) Dec 3-2 3.00 0 125 Heath Williamson (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) over Tristan Blansit (Appalachian Elite GOLD) Dec 6-4 0 3.00 131 Zach Van Alst (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) over Colton Landers (Appalachian Elite GOLD) Dec 7-4 0 3.00 137 Knox Fuller (Appalachian Elite GOLD) over Brett Cruce (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) Fall 1:13 6.00 0 143 Griffin Green (Appalachian Elite GOLD) over Michael John Harris (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) Dec 5-4 3.00 0 150 Eli King (Appalachian Elite GOLD) over Jarret Anthony (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) TF 18-1 5.00 0 157 Donnie Beyer (Appalachian Elite GOLD) over Robert Morales (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) Dec 11-5 3.00 0 165 Barrett Blakely (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) over Caleb Adkins (Appalachian Elite GOLD) Dec 15-8 0 3.00 175 Tommy Brackett (Appalachian Elite GOLD) over Randy Jenkins (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) Dec 6-4 3.00 0 187 Davis Perry (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) over Dawson Satterfield (Appalachian Elite GOLD) TF 19-4 0 5.00 200 Brett Brown (Appalachian Elite GOLD) over Jared Buxton (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) Dec 8-3 3.00 0 225 Victor Bernarski (Appalachian Elite GOLD) over Zach Calhoun (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) Fall 2:53 6.00 0 290 Sammy Evans (Appalachian Elite GOLD) over Clay Webb (Alabama Wrestling Club Blue) Fall 1:03 6.00 0 Dual Meet Score 38.0 20.0 Until next time... 14. I strongly disagree. The East/West Dual held on March 6 at Wilson Central High School served as the wrestle-off for the team. If you read back through the thread starting w/ the very beginning, the selection process was clearly defined. I helped head up the East teams organization and that was coached by Lee Varnell onsite. Coach John Kramer was the head of the West team. Winners of the individual matches made the team. Nothing shady about the process at all. Ben Smith Bradley Wrestling
  15. No apologies necessary, but thank you, D2. We had a good season. But, that's easier when we have good kids and great support. And, yes, Kirby did beat Fuller in OT at the CHS Duals. Great match. Worth the price of admission as well. Eli and Knox are actually pretty good friends. So, I'm not sure how much that they were beating on each other, but it was fun to watch. LONG scrambles. Knox is actually dropping to 132 for our Dixie lineup while Eli will be at 138 for us as well. Should be a TOUGH line-up. Best of luck in the off-season to the Irish. I'm sure that we'll all cross paths quite frequently.
  16. Let me see if I can add some clarity to this discussion. McElhaney did NOT wrestle Eason at the Cleveland Duals. He wrestled Klett and pinned him in the 3rd. He did, however, wrestle Eason a week later at the BC Inv. and pinned him early in the second period. He was leading when he cradled him and got the fall. McElhaney was on fire that weekend and was voted MOW of the tourney by the officials and coaches. King was entered in the BC Inv. at 145, but had to drop out mid-week due to the flu if I remember Coach Simpson correctly. So, the Fuller/King match would not have happened that weekend regardless. However, thanks to Coach Simpson's graciousness, Da Bears and the Irish were actually able to practice together the day before the State Duals AND the day before the State Traditional. So, both squads, along w/ Arlington and Red Bank, were able to see all of our studs go at it. Great scrambles, good "go's" , and tough fights throughout the room both days. Perhaps Coach Simpson and I can make that happen underneath a Bear mat lamp or in an Irish gym one day. Should be a good time... Ben Smith Bradley Wrestling

  23. Ok...my $0.02... Coach Miller, Myers, Price, Renner, etc. have run and did a run a fine night of duals and a great day of wrestling as usual. This is a quality tournament year-in and year-out. My opinion, with the exception of one official, the officiating was solid and, at a minimum, fairly consistent. Coaches and wrestlers have to make adjustments to each crew of officials at different tournaments and this year's Fandetti was no exception. We were at the Brawl in the Hall the previous weekend and it was about the same case as far as officiating is concerned. The one official that I had issues w/ at the BITH was in the JV gym at Fandetti...so, go figure. And, the one official at Fandetti that I had issues with (i.e. safety issues...calling potentially dangerous when necessary and knowing the difference b/t potentially dangerous situations and illegal holds) was pretty good at BITH the weekend before. So, again...go figure. Now, I'm not a "social" coach, but I didn't hear any other coaches complaining about not coming back due to officiating. And, the one officiating issue that Coach Lewis (CBHS) and I brought to tournament officials attention was handled almost immediately. So, my complaints are minimal if existent at all. We have been to several tournaments in the recent past w/ MUCH worse officiating and actually modified our schedule this season to avoid those tournaments and poor officiating. As long as the SHHS coaching crew will have us, we plan on returning. The competition level was up and more consistent, very similar to a few years ago when Soddy, FR, Heritage, and us were all battling it out w/ the NC and VA teams in the blood and medal rounds. Keep up the good work SHHS coaches and best of luck w/ the remainder of the season. Ben Smith Bradley Wrestling
  24. Fuller is up b/c he has grown...like most 14-18 yr. old high school students do from season to season. And, it's better for the lineup as it was for him to be at 126 lbs. last year. Don't be surprised if he goes up even more this year when needed and/or if he continues to grow.
  25. Slinger, I appreciate the fact that your first two posts ever were directed toward us and this topic. "Fight Nights" are new to our area, but shared, combo, or group practices are not. Our area has been working together very well in this area for several off-seasons now. Heck, if you would've come over to the Steam Room prior to the Dixie Duals, you would've seen a room full of kids most days from several area schools of all ages. We, Bradley Wrestling and BPWC, practice 3-4 times a week depending on the week and they have always been open to ANY and ALL at NO CHARGE. But, these scheduled practices are set to our convenience on our schedules...most of which, are after school while the kids are still a "captive audience" and on campus. However, this does not allow schools from other areas, i.e. Knoxville, M'Boro, N. GA, etc. to attend. I, personally, as well as other of our high school and club coaches have been contacted a lot over the years about practices w/ us and/or in our area but the response is always the same...that's too early for anyone to make it. With the popularity of "fight nights" catching on the past few years, our club coaches thought it'd be a good idea if we started one in our area at hours that other areas could attend as well. So, I gave them the green light. They took the initiative and made the calls/messages, set the prices, and will run the practices. I support my coaches and I can promise you this...fee in hand or not, no wrestler would be turned away that showed up and wanted to work out. Of all our weekly practice, lift, or conditioning opportunities, this is the only one there is a "fee" for. If it works...GREAT. If not, we'll back up and punt. Any $$$ made, if any, would go to FS/Greco tournament travel for the wrestlers...not in any coaches pocket. Either way, we're gonna keep working and keep grinding. Those that want to join us, c'mon. Those that don't, we'll see y'all mat side. Heck, if there are other opportunities in our area like this, we'd like to know...we travel well also.
