  1. I'm almost afraid to ask what the numbers will say for the Cats third round game.
  2. It was another hard fought football game between two rivals and Tullahoma advances on to the 3rd round of the TSSAA 5A State Playoffs. It was a dominating performance by the offensive and defensive lines and if the line continues to improve, then the Cats have a shot in winning at Columbia next Friday night. Trey Burks was outstanding tonite, along with some dazzling punt returns by Jordan Sheffield and Jared Davis was just Jared Davis. Tullahoma's outstanding jr Qb continues to lead this team on offense with his leadership qualities. Jared is an outstanding thrower as well as a great runner. The Tullahoma defense seems to be peaking at the right time. I'm glad we won't see Trent Garland on the football field anymore. It was Tullahoma's time to win as Lawrence Co put a good whipping on Tullahoma last year and knocked us out of the playoffs. This team is much more skilled on offense this season. THS will have to deal with Trent Garland and the Lawrence Co bkb team in the coming weeks. Its a shame that Tullahoma, after beating Columbia in the regular season and winning the District 8AAA championship, will have to travel to Columbia for their 3rd round game. The TSSAA tweaked the playoff system this season, but they have some kinks to work out in the system where head to head and winning the district should give a team homefield advantage in the playoffs.
  3. Tullahoma has more skilled players on offense and more speed. The Cats can score some points against anyone, but in many games this season they gave up some points and we had a lot of high scoring games. In the last two games, the defense has come to play and played well. I hope that can continue this Friday nite. Although some of the Cats are banged up, I think everyone will be dressed out and ready to play. I really think Lawrence Co will do some things differently with Trent Garland. He may even run out of the Wildcat formation. Tullahoma has such a big play-book, they still have many things they can do, that they didn't do in the last game. With such great weather forecast for Friday nite, I would expect many people to attend. If Lawrence Co can stop Tullahoma's passing attack, then they have a shot at winning. If you can't attend, listen to the live broadcast on 101.5, fantasyradio.com or charter channel 6 with Scott and Binns. Pregame show starts at 6pm, kick-off at 7pm and a scoreboard show after the game and interview with Coach John Olive. While you there, check out the THS QB club concession stand.
  4. We didn't beat him often, but I still think a lot of Coach Thompson. He was always friendly to me and we're losing a great one in this area and all across the state. I wish you good health to enjoy your retirement.
  5. An interesting tidbit from last Friday night. There were 17 rematches in the first round of the playoffs and the team that won the first game won 10 of the 17 rematches. I know, I've got too much time on my hands and this stat probably won't mean a thing this Friday night.
  6. Tullahoma still has many plays and sets we haven't used and I'm sure we'll come up with something different, but so will Lawrence Co. If Tullahoma could get the early lead and force Lawrence Co into something they aren't comfortable doing, the Cats might have a chance. Thats easier said than done. The long range forecast calls for possible rain on Friday which should favor Lawrence Co as they play well in the mud.
  7. I had dinner at the Chop House in Murfreesboro with Riverdales QB and gave him some tips on how to beat Soddy Daisy.
  8. Crunch those numbers again and predict the outcome of the rematch with Lawrence Co.
  9. Thx for the kind words. I know we've played Lawrence Co as long as I can remember in every sport and I have lot of respect for Lawrence Co. Our baseball coach, Brad White, is a Lawrence Co boy. I've umpired many of the Wildcats baseball games over the years when they would come to this area. I don't think Tullahoma had any unjuries in the game and I hope Lawrence Co came out of their game in good shape. See you Friday night.
  10. Your guess is as good as mine who will win the rematch. Its hard to beat the same team twice in one season, especially if they are a good team like Lawrence Co. Tullahoma will be at home and may be a little more versatile than Lawrence Co and has more team speed. Lawrence Co has a great defense and Trent Garland. It should be a great game and I hope we have warmer weather next Friday night. Congratulations to Lawrence Co for the win over a good Cleveland team. You represented District 8AAA well.
  11. Congratulations Lawrence Co from Tullahoma. Glad you kept in the family and didn't let those guys from E.Tenn win tonite. See you next Friday in Tullahoma for the rematch. How did Trent Garland do tonite and who were the heroes for the Wildcats?
  12. The Tullahoma Wildcats led throughout and beat White Co. 48-13 in the 5A 1st round state playoffs tonite at Tullahoma. White Co, trailing 21-0 scored late in the first half and trailed by 14pts at halftime. Tullahoma had too much speed for the young White Co team and played reserves for most of the 4th quarter. Tullahoma will host Lawrence Co this Friday nite in a rematch of last weeks final regular season game for the District 8AAA championship which Tullahoma won 27-7. Lawrence Co beat Cleveland tonite 41-34 in Lawrenceburg. Jordan Sheffield returned 2 punts for td's in the first half tonite. It was a good crowd considering the cold conditions. Tullahoma is now 8-3 and White Co ends their season with a 5-6 record.
  13. Just a reminder, High School Sports Plus, a sports talk show with Scott Shasteen and myself, will air Monday at 5pm instead of 6pm, because of a conflict with UT bkb. The Vols have an exhibition game with Indianapolis and 101.5 is the Vols network station in this area. I'm sure you'll want to listen at 5pm for a wrapup of high school football first round playoff action and other sports news.
  14. That is correct. Tullahoma had the lead at halftime and then lost 28-27 in Sparta on Sat. Ronnie Carter of the TSSAA said it would be a no contest I think if we didn't finish the game and I don't think White Co wanted to come back on Sat, so the Cats had to load up and go to Sparta on Sat. It certainly was a strange occurence, but it did happen about 10 years ago.
  15. Lawrence Co is a good football team that doesn't need to play dirty and I didn't see anything out of the way in the Tullahoma game. I'm a Tullahoma fan and saw the game last Friday. I can't speak about the strength of Clevelands district, but every team in District 8AAA made the playoffs and you can't say that about the district that Cleveland plays in.
  16. Tullahoma beat Cookeville by 20pts, but Coffee Co had the Cats by 18pts in the 4th quarter before Tullahoma made a miracle comeback, so I don't think it was a fluke win by Coffee Co. When they set their minds to play, they are a good football team. You have to be ready to play when you face the Red Raiders.
  17. Back several years ago when they had bowl games, Cleveland would be district champs and head to head meetings would count. Being district champs now don't figure in the playoff system.
  18. Tullahoma is looking for some games for next year. Tell your coaches to give us a call.
  19. As long as we don't have to go to Sparta to play the second half, I think Tullahoma should win. The last time we thought we wouldn't have any problems with a team, we were down 18pts in the 4th quarter. Tullahoma historically doesn't do well in the first round, so I'll take a 1pt win. Not many people thought White Co would go to Crossville and get a win last Friday. White Co is in a good position to upset the Cats.
  20. Seriously, I believe I would get motel rooms or stay at the middle school and drive down Thursday nite. A 4 hour bus ride to Lawrenceburg will be very tiring on the players and you want get home til 3am.
  21. You have to get some teams in 7AAA to drop down to 5A.
  22. I found out later that Columbia would host if both teams get that far.
  23. Tullahoma WILL NOT host Maryville next season.
  24. Unofficially I was told that Tullahoma would host Columbia because they beat Columbia in the regular season and won the the district title. Of course that is hearsay and Tullahoma would have to get there first.
