  1. I know NewsNews situation and folks it's not about skill, playing time or even politics. It is about an adult dealing with children in a manner that is unacceptable at work, church or society in general. It is about control and power. A high school coach who insults and makes fun of his players in front of the team, parents and other teams has lost touch with what the game is about. I don't think for one second that anyone on this board would be happy with a coach who belittles a child because of weight, speed , mental or physical abilities in front the team , parents and anyone else in ear shot. Yes, leave the coaches alone let them coach,it's their team but any parent would be upset if their child is taken to task in front of the whole world and made to feel about an inch tall. And this is because "I" am the coach "I" have the power and control to do and say what "I" want ,so you and your kids deal with it or leave. I have been around high school ball and travel ball a long time (three daughters) I have never seen a situation like this. You folks will have to cut NewsNews some slack it hits very close to home for him. Sorry NN didn't mean to stick my nose in your business just got carried away.......

    Question

Thanks, still a little confused. The 36 total games , does that include the four games each per tournament. I guess what I'm asking is it 36 total per season or 36 regular season games plus 20 tournament games..? I'm a little slow sometimes........

    Question

Question, what is the total number of games TSSAA allows in a high school season? Does a tournament count as one game or actual number of games played?
  6. William Blount plays Alcoa @ 4:30 Friday in Heritage's Play Day at Everett Park. Gibbs @ 6:00......
  7. Did William Blount make it into the tournament...?

    Question...?

Is the softball field located at the high school...? I know where the school is, but I don't remember seeing the field.
  9. Another player who left Halls also played a pretty good shortstop, Kristin ,always did a great job on our travel team. I don't think she ever got to play short at Halls.
  10. Good to know you got my back NewsNews...
  11. Well roadrunner2, to answer your questions :(not sure why I'm bothering with this) 1.I was talking about myself. the high school coach made a big stink an accused me of calling pitches for a high school tournament game from the bleachers... she did not call pitches for her team, she let the catcher call the game even though the pitcher was a sophmore (my daughter) and the catcher was a freshman. Both of them played on our travel team. They were playing a very good team out of NC. and doing very well, so she assumed this couldn't be happening unless I was giving the girls signals from the bleachers. Her rule was the catcher and pitcher must call the game,so she got upset. 2. This was a private joke between NewsNews and myself. 3. Yes we have played a lot of A ball, and yes I call pitches, now whether I call the right pitches could be at question....
  12. Geez NewsNews , you would point out the one time I was innocent... everyone knows travel ball coaches don't know how to call pitches. I know you are in a tough spot, I just hate it for the girls. Adults sometimes just act like children. The mayor thing,"Ha" after after 15 or 16 years of league and travel ball I want no part of politics. Hang in there better days are on the way.......
  13. Hey I'm not taking sides on this issue. Any child should have the opportunity to play for their school and to also play travel ball if they so choose. I am only pointing out that the hs/travel ball issue will always be there. I have two that played high school ball, one is a senior this year and have no issue with high school coaches. I have coached travel ball the last six or seven years and have not had a problem with the high school coaches. I stayed as far away from the high school coach and team as possible. If I was asked to help, I did so, otherwise I sat in my chair and kept my own book. Did I always agree with the high school coach? No, but I don't work for the school system and I want my child to enjoy her playing time. As far as the importance of hs vs tb this is how I feel: High school coaches should be able to answer question that college coaches have such as, can the player handle the academic work and a softball schedule, is she dependable, is she a team leader, does she have a good work ethic, does she set a good example for the younger players, what is her behavior in the school community? The high school counsler should be able to handle the other questions the college coach may have. Several college coaches have contacted my daughter's coach and counselers and I am very pleased with the infomation and help in supporting her goal of playing in college. Travel ball coaches have the responsibility of putting their players in a position where they can be seen by college coaches. Lets face it, kids who are still playing at this age 17-18 are dedicated players. So tweek their skills, mental and physical and put them in good tournaments where they can showcase their skills. Not all high school coaches are good nor are they bad. Same with travel ball coaches. The point is everyone should be working to help the kids become better citizens and players(pointed out by several other posters on this thread). Back to my original point ,it's a stretch to think this will happen......
  14. Communication and support between travel coaches and high school coaches...that's the funniest thing I ever heard. Must be an Urban Myth...
  15. No rSquared, no website so far everything at WB is "don't know anything" from the kid... All I know is my daughter likes the new coach so I guess that's what counts......
  16. Sounds about right to me rSquared.... I know the lady when I see her, just can't recall her name. I'm sure ladyadmiral knows. I was looking at your schedule rSquared, looks like a fun season for you folks. Good Luck..!!
  17. Who is the new coach at Karns...?
  18. Good luck ladyadmiral, WB is in the same shape it all depends on putting points on the board. Rachel and Genie are the only seniors, but they have a good group of juniors and sophs. WB and Heritage are on Spring Break the first week of the season, so they will be a few days behind everyone else. I hope the weather is not a big factor this season.......
  19. Talked with Kara's dad the other day, they seem to be doing well. Have not seen Kayla or her parents since before Christmas. Thought I might see them at the WB/Heritage basketball game Friday night. Did talk to James (Shelly's dad ) for a little while after the game........
  20. Well Poker Face, I'm not TNT but I've known him most of my life so I'll try to answer some of your questions. Heritage has several good pitchers, a soph p/2b who is very good at both positions also hits the ball big time for a little thing. They have a senior who works well as a change of pace, hard to hit. They also have a good junior pitcher. Maryville has two freshman pitchers who should get some circle time, they are both big strong kids with great attitudes. Lindsy and Brooke will more then hold their own, Lindsy is very dangerous at the plate. Maryville will be in the district race just like always. Lenoir city don't have a clue, other than Sarah leaves a big hole to fill..... I'll leave WB to some one else and only say that if the offense steps up they will be in the district mix. No one wants to hear my home cookn'. As for Hall's problems , they are real and the players should not have to leave the team because of a coach who abuses his position , all for the sake of control. I know most of the players who left and most of the parents, they are not unreasonable folks. Two of the girls have played travel ball with us for the last three years. One is a SS/Catcher who would start for any high school team and most A ball travel teams. She never got to play SS for Halls, she led our travel team in hitting and RBI's, the same thing for Halls. The other a 1b/catcher is a junior same thing Hitting/RBI leader for Halls and her travel teams , she didn't play with us this year ( need to talk to coach 23 about that, just kidding) but they are both great kids with good parents ( one of the Dads could use a few fishing lessons . Anyway the entire mess at Halls has caused nothing but ill will and a lot of grief for everyone involved ,especially the players. Don't want to forget Farragut, what can you say they are always in the district hunt every year. How about it ladyAdmiral, what's the blind squirrel going to do this season...? Again good luck to everyone....!
  21. And the gauntlet has been thrown.......
