The JV tournament that is held on the same day as our invitational has been moved from Soddy Daisy High School's gym to the wrestling arena. Varsity tournament will still be held at the high school's new gym; only the JV tournament will be held at the wrestling arena (round gym). To keep numbers within reason, we request that schools limit 2 wrestlers per weight class. If a bracket is not full and we can make an exception we will try to accomodate. All JV entries are due by Jan. 17 at 8P.M. No entries will be accepted on the day of tournament! Wrestling starts at 9a.m.

Did the 2 pound growth allowance go into effect on the 25th? I know that was the case last year, but I couldn't find anything on the TSSAA page about this year. Maybe I overlooked it?

I think you are way off on this one, Penn. I've seen Spain, Waddell, Creagan, Manson, Bundy, Leen, Wright (I could go on and on) beat top ranked guys from other states. I can dig up specific names if you like. I saw Ryan Fuller beat Chris Hacker this summer 2 out of 3 rounds in freestyle at national duals and in one of the rounds he teched Hacker 7-0.

lol...someone is giving you bad information, bcb. Jarriet could have wrestled this tournament and Coach Henry wanted him to give him a few extra days to heal. I watched him wrestle on it before they went down Thursday.

Every year it is voted on and approved unanimously by the coaches and submitted as a proposal to TSSAA. I personally sent it the last two years, but nothing ever changes.

You are right about Coach Ryan, but once he left there was nothing. And, if I am not wrong, most of those kids (including your son, I think) were products of the takedown club and many of those kids (like Joel, John Lane, etc.) were good athletes at whatever sport they played. AFter Coach Ryan there was nothing in the way of instruction. Everyone in the community wants Rabbit at the middle school, but politics keeps him out. The middle school has a new coach this year and our other feeder now has Roger Vandergriff, so we are hoping for an improved working relationship that the kids can benefit from. One last thing...I have some videos for you. I'll try to drop them off one day. You will LOVE them.

Another problem that I see with middle school wrestling is the coaching. I know that it's not like this everywhere, but in our particular case the middle school coach was there for a paycheck and that's it. When my kids went to middle school he would suggest "we'll cut out all of the waterbreaks and get out of here by 4." Many of our incoming freshmen show up knowing nothing and we have to spend alot of time breaking bad habits. We also lose many of them after the first two days because they have never been through a real practice and it is a shock to them. If we didn't have Rabbit and the kids club, we would be screwed.

lol..me too. My son and I bought all of the best matches on dvd from the late 60's through early 80's on dvd. I have tons of the Gulas era stuff and memphis stuff. My favorite is the stuff from memorial auditorium in Chattanooga. Fun stuff and great memories of when I was a kid. The really cool part is watching some of the old commercials that ran in the 70's on the weekly tv show. J.M Sanders, diamond king of the south, etc.

I don't think I buy that Norman is 18. I remember Norman from southeast regionals wrestling Kyle and Ryan, and he wasn't wrestling up. That's the same kid that took the cheap shot and hurt Ensminger at the Challenge Cup.

I have made three over two days and none of those got returned. i'm amazed that you actually got through to someone. Thanks for the update. When they finally do get it fixed, we will all be swamped with the back-log of entries that we have to input. Are there any other sports that have to put up with this nonsense? I really doubt it.

Did you ever get your problem worked out? I wasn't having the problem but now I am. I can enter everything but the weights, which is all we should be required to enter anyway. The rest is a waste of time. I have tried to enter the info on a couple of different computers but nothing worked. Let me know if you have any luck, please. thanks.

That may be true, but I remember that "kid" from age group wrestling. He is one year older than Ryan Fuller and one year younger than Kyle James. Is there no age restriction in ga? I can't believe Jeremy Norman is still in high school, what will he be, 20 when he graduates? Doesn't matter to me, I don't live in ga, just wondering. It reminds me of some of the 20 year olds who show up at Fargo to wrestle 17-18 year olds.

I'm really proud of Tyler Roberson and his win over Andy Olsen. Olsen is a 2xfinalist and 1xstate champion in ga's largest classification. Tyler was in the gym every single day this summer and he trains as hard as one possibly can. Tyler is enjoying some measure of success now because he sacrificed his summers to get better; a point that I wish many of our younger guys in the room would follow. He has never been a "look at me-look at me" kind of guy, like most great wrestlers he is all business. A great kid who leads by example.
