  1. what date do the district tournaments start?
  2. The new gym in Stewart County will be packed for the upcoming district tournament. And with all the smack being talked about on CoachT about who is the best and other topics (like recruiting), I can only say the ecomony of Dover will benefit because of the interest being drummed up about District 10-AA. I went to a middle school tournament last night in Paris and the Henry County gym was almost filled, so what will the high school tourney hold? Play Ball!!!!!
  3. It's simple: the district tournament will decide who is the best between Harpeth and Cheatham County. Solve it in Dover. Play on the neutral court. Both have good teams and neither is a shoe-in for the district finals. Other teams could make it. But whoever is left standing can claim to be "district champion".
  4. I think a good round number for a winning season is 75% talent and 25% coaching. A top coach is one who comes in, takes average talent and developes (year-after-year) into district contending teams. A good coach can have competitive teams but kind of goes up and down (as far as competing for titles) with the talent they have. Even a bad coach can have a good team if they have talent where the team can just run and gun and use athletic ability to defeat another team.
  5. Well, the gym down in Dover is brand new and huge. So everyone bring a lot of money and come on down! (Reguardless whoses in the finals)
  6. If these two teams (Cheatham and Harpeth) make it to the district tournament finals, do you think these schools will bring a large crowd to Dover, the site of the tournament on the campus of Stewart County High School?
  7. Leslie Barrow - Stewart County - guard. She also plays this way as the lead-off hitter on the school's softball team.
  8. who won between waverly and cheatham county last year?
  9. The old thread is too long. Who has the best shot, Waverly? Or can someone sneak up on them?
  10. Hall of Fame games should count. I applaud SwampTiger for saying if they lost they lost. It isn't a pre-season game like the NFL. It's like a college kick-off classic - an extra game.
  11. Five technicals? For what? Coaches or players?
  12. Rebs in a shocker 17-14. Will convert a bunch of 3rd and longs.
  13. If Cheatham is the clear-cut number one in many people's eyes, rank the rest.
  14. I know many years ago everybody was in one division. I like the split to three. But 8 champions? How about this for a radical reason for not traveling 3 hours for a football game - the effects of all the pollution on global warming.
  15. I am not for sure why they moved from three football classifications to five anyways? Is it to have five champions? I've been reading where teams complain about the travel and losing gate receipts so why not stay the way basketball does it and play the natural rivalries that are within an hour or so. The average fan isn't going to drive three hours to watch a game. But they'll go 30 minutes. Bottom line, it doesn't matter how many classes you have, there will only be half the teams win every Friday night!
  16. the TSSAA meeting is tomorrow and the new football regionas will be set.
  17. Chip Cirillo from the Tennessean is the best sportswriter in the state. I remember years ago he was at the Clarksville paper before moving up. I've always thought Chip Cirillo and the guys at Sports Illustrated are the best writers.
  18. what region will Stewart County be in next year? Has that been determined?
  19. Good for Stewart County. A JV game is suppose to get next years' starters some experience this year!
  20. Greenbrier may not even score. who knows with the weather.
  21. I wouldn't discount waverly. they always seem to have players!!!
  22. I just read in the Leaf-Chronicle that the JV Rebs defeated Houston Co. JV and that Garrett Wallace threw for a couple of scores. It must appear he is back from his injury. Who else scored for the Rebels? Does anyone know?
  23. 25-30 years ago Stewart County was very tough. Late 70's and early 80s. Small, packed gym was rockin. Before video games, etc. Only show in town. One of best games ever: Pearl Cohn (with Reggie Glimps) won 103-93 over the Rebels in 1982. People in Dover still talk about that game.
  24. I hope the Rebs can pull this one out. But I hope it's a well-played game on both sides. Both bands will be there, I think. Should be better than sitting at home on a boring Friday night because UT-Alabama isn't until Saturday afternoon!!!!
  25. a grant is tax money. funds from the county for athletics is tax money. this NCLB and other federal stuff is tax money. if federal and state and local wouldn't waste money on "stuff", there would be enough money. ask the taxpaying citizens from cheatham - would they rather $3,000 of their money going to athletics and the other $12,000 being refunded to them or have $15,000 of their tax dollars (your grant) paying someone to go around and turn off the light switches.
