  1. Gotta go with the panthers here. Farragut is a tough team and has a good defense, but I think Powell will be hungry after last week. They will need to come out and prove that they are the team everyone is claiming they are. I see Powell winning out with the only obstacle being Central. I know Halls will give them a tough game, but Powell will win. Expect to see a Powell vs. Maryville rematch in either the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs depending on the outcome of the Powell vs. Central game. PHS 29 FHS 17
  2. Typically Knox West has a bunch of athletes, but that is about all. They are rarely used efficiently. They have become one of the whipping boys of region 3-4a. Don't worry Mo West, you will roll in this one. It will not be like having to play Maryville or Knox Central or even Powell. M West 49 K West 3 That is if Woods calls the dogs off early
  3. Robpride, No threats this time. I don't want to see another thread closed, but Daryle did want me to ask you about your football experience. Or maybe I should ask you about your success as a girl's jr. pro coach?
  4. I don't know that he would care. I am pulling for Powell to have a big game and hopefully pull off an upset. And it would be just that an upset. I am a realist. Look at history.....Powell has not beaten Maryville in recent history. As a matter of fact, I think the last regular season region game that Maryville lost was in 2000 to Central when they started 0-4 and then went on to win the state. I think Powell has a better chance this year than they ever have, but they have to pull it off. Until then, they have to be considered underdogs. So I pick Maryville to win, just because they always have, but I would like to see a Powell upset.
  5. I am going to have to agree with many others on here and say that the best thing that ever happened for Carter High School was getting out of region 3-4A. It proves to be a much easier schedule for them and the years they have had to take beatings have made them tougher. As a matter of fact, I don't think Carter has been to the playoffs since being in 4A. To the best of my memory, the last time they went to the playoffs was in 1999 when they were in 3A the last time. I believe that they played G-P and won, then lost to Sullivan North in the second round. The only other time I remember them getting to the playoffs was in 4A (I am not sure what region they were in then, I think 2-4A) in 1993 when they went to Elizabethton and won in the 1st round and then lost to Cleveland en route to one of their state championship seasons. Carter wins this one by 3 touches.
  6. Do you really think that Central will win the region? There is no way. I don't think they have the talent that they usually do, and they are hurting for now without Longworth. I look at games between Central and Maryville in the past when Central has had way more talent and still lost. You can have all of the athletes in the world, but if they are not coached to be in the right place at the right time, and know what to do when they get there, then it doesn't matter. In my opinion that is what makes Maryville tough. Coach Quarles does a great job of using the talent he has to benefit the team.
  7. If Maryville's D is as tough as the rebel faithful say they are, then I find it hard to believe that Powell could pull off an upset. I do think that the panthers will find it a source of motivation that they were scheduled for homecoming regardless of the reason. It should prove to be a great game. But I think Maryville will have the edge playing at home. MHS 35 PHS 24
  8. Knox Central has too many weapons. LC doesn't stand a chance. Cats by 21
  9. Lee Smith Powell Cody Watts Powell I know that people on other threads have said that Lee Smith has not posted big numbers this year, but when you consider that people are keying on him offensively, it is only smart that the Powell coaches go to other options. You can't argue with 6'6 245. That is a legitimate D1 size player.
  10. robpride, just so you know.... I happen to be very close freinds with Lee Smith's father, Daryle Smith, and when I told him about your remarks, his only comment was that you better be robpride from KY. If you are out in Powell, you better watch yourself. 6'6 326 is not a small man to be picking on his first born.
  11. Knox Central, Fulton, Powell, Anderson Co.
  12. This just goes to show how some people get on here just to see their screen name on the web. First of all there are several Div. 1 schools showing Watts attention. Ever heard of Ohio State? (And I have no relation to him) He is a phenomenal athlete with many intangibles. And if you think that the Panthers have been working on tricky plays all summer while the all the wiser Spartans have spent their summer working on fundamentals then you obviously don't know much about Coach Stephens at Powell, or football in general. I don't know of any teams that spend thier summers working tricky passing routes, especially if their coaches don't know what they are doing. If you have had this experience in White Pine, then I suggest you go somewhere to see some quality football being played. As for those who think that Lee Smith runs a 5.4..... All I can say is just keep thinking that. I assure you that he runs less than a 5.0. Exact numbers I cannot supply, but all it would be is a number. I have seen guys that run a 4.6 or 4.7 get the ball in their hands, and no one can catch them. It is called game speed, and true players have that extra gear when they need it. And even if you do catch Lee, it is going to take more than one to bring him down. Good Luck to both teams but I think Powell wins this one. PHS 24 WHS 10
  13. D-unit, I am from Knoxville and have been hearing alot about Tennessee High this year. It would be hard to believe that a program such as Tennessee High's would hire someone who knows nothing about football. I don't know who your freshman coach is, but if he has coached in Knoxville, then he has definitely seen better football than anyone in upper East Tennessee can play.
  14. I heard from a reliable source that one of Central's starters from last year, Baron Huber, withdrew from Central yesterday due to a move by his family. Does anyone know any more about this. Where did he move to?
  15. I say that we all just quit the fighting and play ball! I can't wait to see this one.
  16. MRedRebels, are you looking for some kind of edge? Just wondering. Why can't you just be satisfied to play the Bobcats at full strength?
  17. True, Jackson did have a 20 yd loss in OT in the first match up... but you have to consider what was going on. There was some obvious mis communication. The fullback went the wrong way, and when Jackson decided to follow him, he had nothing. Like playmakers do in close games, he decided to reverse his field and try to make something happen. Unfortunately for him, it didn't work. I guess that sometimes you're the windsheild, sometimes you're the bug. But you can't fault the kid for trying to make something happen.
  18. I have said it before, and I am continuing with my opinion. I don't think that either team will blow the other out. As for the outcome of the game... Who knows? I just know that it will be a great high school football game to watch. And I would bet that whoever wins will be playing in two weeks for the big gold ball.
  19. There was a huge crowd at the first matchup. I expect to see anywhere from 8 to 10 thousand at this one. I would bet that anyone in the area that does not have a game to attend will be at this one. I was wondering, with all of the pre-game talk, where is JohnPaul? I miss his usual ignorant trash talking.
  20. Speaking of making changes in the coaching staff, since Coach McMillan is calling the offense, who is doing the defensive coordinating that he usually does? I didn't really pay attention last friday night, but it was someone else.
  21. I heard that he will not be able to be at the game this friday. The person that I talked to, who has an inside track, said that he would be released friday at the earliest. I did hear that he was doing extremely well, but that he wouldn't be coaching the rest of this year. I know that this has to kill him.
  22. I think it will be a close one. I am not going to make any predictions on this one though. I am just going to go to the game Friday and see a great ball game. I know that whoever wins will have to fight for it until the final whistle blows. It will not be a blow out either way.
  23. You have got to be kidding me! I would like to see Central pull off the upset, but there is no way that they will pitch a shutout. I noticed last week that Coach McMillan, the usual defensive coordinator was calling the offense in Coach Helton's absence. And there was some other coach for Central calling the defense. Central has been known for their tough D, but with a new leader on defense (as well as offense), I don't see them pitching a shut out. Even Coach McMillan couldn't accomplish that. I just hope that he does a better job of calling offenses. Last week looked a little rough.
  24. I totally agree Rebelplaya. Mo West has had a bye to the semifinal game. But what makes that any different from years past. Whoever wins the game Friday will be in the state championship. No team from upper east tennessee has ever been to the big game. The quality of football is just not as good.
  25. Like I said before, you can throw out all of the circumstances. If both teams played with a JV squad, it would be a fight. In the first meeting both teams had some key players missing. Central still has some players that aren't 100%, but then again, Maryvillle is missing some starters and you can add to the list Dave Garner with an ACL injury. Central may be playing for their coach, but Maryville is playing for their 38th straight win. This one is definitely too close to make any kind of reasonable predictions. I say that it is decided in the 4th quarter friday night. I don't think this one will go to 2 OT's like the first. One team will take care of business during the regulation 48 minutes. Who will get it done? I guess we will find out about 10:00 this Friday night.
