  1. thanks for all the info, we beat them 4-0. they were a better team than i thought, work triangles very well. most players are skilled at ballhandling, but shooting isn't all that great. not as physical as i thought it was going to be on their part, judging from comments in this thread earlier. fairview was up 2-0 at the half and scored their last 2 goals later in the second half. the second half was more about ball control on both sides, and fairview played a better second half yet again. man, we really need to work on playing a good full game...
  2. how'd you guys do vs. hillwood?
  3. bottomline, you are a friggin retard. i can't even begin to grace your remarks with a comeback, i have no idea what to say to that drivel. oh man... having played baseball, basketball, and soccer for numerous years (baseball for 6 or 7, basketball and soccer for 11-12 each) i have to say that baseball doesn't even begin to compare with the adrenaline rush you get from both soccer AND basketball. i thoroughly enjoy both sports, and both are very physical and exhilerating. if you don't think basketball is physical, you've never played a very competitive game, so please don't say something like "basketball's a ###### sport" or something. anyway, soccer is my sport of preference right now, mostly because it's the season even in the fall though, it still takes a minor preference over b-ball.
  4. aaron's from fairview, JEEZ get it right! hehe
  5. haha, i'd like to see a tape of it.
  6. most of our shots were either not at the goal or directly at the goalie. i don't think we scored off any rebounds, so that didn't hurt zion too badly, it just gave a few scares. i did see one really good save though, he made a diving fingertip save on a free kick that i took, the ball was bending like mad to the right and he got horizontal and hit it away. i was impressed, especially when i found out he doesn't normally play goal. why was the other goalie out?
  7. having played both teams now, i'm going to tell you (zion) that you will have to play MUCH better against CA, EVERY SINGLE PLAYER has to have a solid game, you can't have one weak point, because they will exploit it. all of their players can control the ball well, and most can shoot pretty accurately. they have a strong defense, and if they get up they will pull more players back on D to ensure you don't score.
  8. yes, this past fall HFC created a U-18 team (well, the previous U-17's wanted to play, so they just played U-18). and we played whatever team had Turon and Vulcan, one of which was in jail when we played the Brent. tourny. Also (i thought this was hilarious) one of the TNFC players actually approached our team after the game and said he had gotten his transfer papers and everything and asked if he could join US. hehe, made me smile...
  9. CA is not overconfident, they come ready to play and ready to lose every game, even if they THINK they are the better team. i don't believe Zion will defeat CA, personally. the way i see this district, it'll be: Page CA (or Fairview) Fairview (or CA) Zion and then loretto and wayne, i'm not sure who's better between the two. do we have anyone else in our district?
  10. i believe CornerPost plays for CA....?
  11. hehe, again with the 88's. Nouri plays for that team as well. i'll see if i can get a roster, and i'll list everyone on that team and see what everyone thinks.
  12. i've heard from hillwood players that they are bad. they got beaten by USN 3-0, and i'm not sure how they fared against any other teams. i'm not in here bashing them, i'm just saying what i know and what i've heard from the team firsthand.
  13. if you want to look at good freshmen and sophomores, watch TNFC '88 play. TJ, Daniel, i believe Ryan Maynard, Aaron Maccaro, and Michael Bolt all play for them. i don't know everyone's names on the team, but they're definitely stacked. daniel has amazing foot skills, he just flows with the ball, it's great to watch. TJ's very good as well, although he doesnt' have the foot skills as polished as Daniel. i can't remember which one Ryan is, so i can't really say anything. Aaron's about as good as Daniel in the foot skills, but he's a great finisher. Michael Bolt is incredible too, he's right up there with daniel and aaron in foot skills, but he's also very fast and he's physical, like TJ, and he's a good finisher, like aaron. i played an indoor tourny with this kid, he is GOOD. i'd like to see H'ville play around Middle TN sometime, where can i find the schedule?
  14. no david. they did control the ball in our end a lot in the first half, matt had a good recap of how the game went. we each had our halves, zion's was first and fairview's was second. zion has improved VERY much from last year, and it was a very good game. who cares if the refs made bad calls, it's over, they scored, no one changed the calls, and we won anyway. no need to come in here and bash them. neither team controlled the ball 70-80% of the game, and both teams were REALLY off in their not-so-good halves. fairview came out, and it took the first half of the game for us to get our heads in it and play like we're supposed to. zion was a MUCH better team this year, i don't remember any of those kids from last year, because each individual player has improved greatly. i'd also like to give props to #4, i believe this is the Kyle Henderson (i think that was his last name) that has been mentioned in the "best sophomore in TN" thread. he is very good, and while most of zion's offense consisted of getting the ball to him, there's a good reason they wanted him to have the ball. best sophomore in state? probably not. but he is a very skilled player nonetheless. good game zion, and good luck throughout the rest of the season. PS. about that free kick, it doesn't matter if it was assumed to be direct or indirect really, we could have stopped it either way. it was a good shot though. \ PSS. and david, zion did give fairview a run for their money in the first half, fairview was a little nervous at halftime (well, at least i was). please don't come in here and start talking smack again, because that is what you did/are doing, even if it was unintentional.
  15. fairview plays zion tomorrow @ zion @ 5. be there for, hopefully, a good game.

excuse me, i was bored and lazy....
  17. hickman isn't that great in skill, but they're a very physical team. that's their saving grace, it helps the score remain a lot lower than it could/should be
  18. all i've heard from someone who watched them play hillwood was that they are a small (yet scrappy) team. they only beat hillwood 3-0, and neither team is supposed to be all that great this year.

    when does Page play CA?
  20. how about fairview and zion @ zion this thursday at 5? fairview has two starters that are injured, been out for 3 weeks, both could be coming back this game. predictions from anyone who's seen both teams play?
  21. Michael Bolt, Daniel Kelly, Aaron Maccaro, TJ Brown - they all play for TNFC '88 as of this past summer/fall. actually, i'm not sure about Bolt, i can't remember if he's on their roster or not...anyway, they have many good players. i can't name the best sophomore in state, because i haven't seen all of them play. it'd be interesting to watch though, i'd love to have a chance to see all the top sophomores go at it. the only ones i've seen that have been mentioned are lowder and maccaro.
  22. his comments speak for themselves, fairview doesn't need to retaliate for some overzealous soccer player flaming a smaller school with something to prove, unprovoked. actually, i had a few good responses, and i took them out because they were inappropriate, i shouldn't have responded the way i did. that "chill" post earlier was actually after one of my posts and lemmiwinkss, you say you played for TNFC '86, do you remember playing HFC '86 in the Brentwood Invitational this past fall? i believe you had Patrick Carroll on your team...?
  23. who are you bertier? i've been trying to figure it out... anyway, yeah, fairview beat harpeth last night 6-1. harpeth came out and got the first goal quickly, then fairview buckled down and played soccer like they know how. at halftime it was 4-1 i believe. one harpeth player was ejected for two yellows. for future reference, harpeth is a very physical team, although most hits are not legal. they take many dives, and half their team has aluminum studs, so any teams that play them, watch out. they slid in and cleated one of our players in the knee and he has a nice slice and swollen knee from the incident. also, harpeth talks a lot of trash, but none of it is/can be backed up, so i wouldn't worry too much. just watch for late hits and cheap shots, and they fall really easily for the 'chip and run' style of play, BUT they can be passed around and/or juked pretty easily as well. sadly, i didn't get to play last night, still being out with a back strain. i'm coming back next week vs. Zion though, @ Zion at 5 pm. stinks, we're on our spring break...oh well
