  1. 5 teams from region 7. Wow.
  2. JCS was 7-3 and Milan was 9-1 I think.
  3. I know Chandler is a tough kid, a true warrior, and the Bright kid must be tough as well. He hopped up after the hit, put his helmet back on, and went back to the huddle with some emotion showing.
  4. District 13 A-AA Finals: JCS defeats USJ in a shootout. 1-1 at the end of regulation and extra periods.
  5. The refs were ok. Both teams played very well. JCS defense held USJ scoreless in the second half except for the Will Purcell field goal with less than a minute. A couple of key mistakes did hurt JCS. Congrats to both teams and coaching staffs for an unforgettable game.
  6. You are right - retention over the summer (or lack thereof) is the key issue that is addressed with year round school.
  7. If the primary function of schools is to babysit and accomodate parent schedules, then all breaks should be done away with. If the primary function of schools is to provide a steady routine for athletic teams, again, do away with all breaks. If the primary function of schools is to teach and educate kids, year round school makes sense. Virtually all of the current educational research indicates that a calendar with moderate breaks throughout the year and a shorter summer break is much better for students in retaining what they've learned the previous year, and the breaks through the year do serve to refresh both students and teachers. It is unhandy for athletics, though. Basketball has been having to live with a break for decades. Now it's lapped over into fall and spring sports and impacts virtually every team in a school.
  8. The offenses of both teams are getting a lot of hype, but it could well come down to who's defensive secondary plays better and who can control the line of scrimmage. Look for both offenses to have a couple of surprises in the play list too. I guess we could hope for a rainy game and make it a running game instead of a throwing game /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  9. It's looking to be around 519 from the TSSAA website this afternoon.
  10. Paying to park is common at state tournament events, and the money goes to the host school. I've wondered why schools did not charge for parking at regular season events, though it would violate my concience to charge for parking at a regular season game.
  11. That's 10, for a total of 20 now in small school DII
  12. So here is the list I have as of Friday morning - who have I missed? JCS USJ Fayette Academy Ezell Harding Mount Juliet Christian DCA FRA Zion Christian Academy That's 8 - I was predicting 7. Any others? Has anyone heard anything on Chattanooga Christian?
  13. A split (new organization) may occur, though I doubt it. Even if another organization emerges, there's a lot of miles and hurdles between starting one up and making it work over the long haul. Think about it - the most influential private school heads already have positions of influence in DII, and they have actively recruited DI privates into DII. I don't see those guys pushing for their own organization.
  14. It looks like we're going to have weather. I suspect Milan can play in the rain with little effect, but rain would have affect the JCS passing game. Here's to clear skies.....
  15. I can assure you that coaches and administrators from all three Jackson privates looked at the issue from every angle several times. Each school has made the decision that they think is in the best interest of their student athletes. I can only guess what the decisions of JCS and USJ would have been had they still been able to play in the A classification in all sports...
  16. Not you, dude. Your stuff is funny, and you know football.
  17. On that point we agree based on enrollments. JCS - 326 USJ - 350 Milan - 626 Good luck Friday night. I hope it's a great game for the fans from both schools, injury free, and one that the players remember fondly.
  18. Not to worry, nwtnsports, every school (including JCS) has a few posters who could choose their words a little better. Internet - gotta love it.
  19. Has anyone heard what Fayette Academy is doing? I believe they were considering it but I have not heard either way.
  20. Westview's Coach Coady was quoted, I think in the Jackson Sun, as saying that Westview never did stop JCS, but that JCS stopped themselves all night long.
  21. That's a nice site with great info. Hats off to whoever keeps that info current.
  22. Pioneer is right - JCS does not have enough parking to handle 8AA crowds. Folks, if it's dry, park on the grass as you see fit. JCS and Milan folks should do yourselves a favor and carpool. Once you get down to Ronnie Fowler Field we'll treat you right - just as the 8AA teams have treated us with hospitality for the last season and a half. Good luck to both teams.
  23. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Are privates hurting publics, or are some of the privates successful because the publics are/were hurting? I have lived in areas where privates did not exist - those areas enjoyed strong local support for the public school system, and those public schools were perceived as doing a good job. I do not intend to criticize public schools - I have had a long association with them and admire the coaches and teachers who work in public education, making a difference in the lives of kids. Rather than criticize, I only point out that not in all regions will the market support private schools. Those who have been affiliated with private education for a while know that for every successful private school there are several who tried to start up and did not make it. They evidently did not hurt the publics, or maybe there was no reason for the community to support / pay for a private school in that area at that time.
