    Franklin Rebels

Is the whole staff returning this fall?
  2. For sheer balance, I'd give a vote to Brentwood's 1997 squad, led by juniors Bill Whitemore, Jock Weisner, Chris Cole, and Matt Davenport. Whitemore tosses for about 3,000 yards and Weisner runs for around 1,200 yards with over 20 scores. Davenport and Cole were tough to cover outside. Someone probably has more acurate numbers, mine are just off of memory.
  3. Maybe for that one afternoon off West End but it was all downhill after that.

    Josh Ward

Whoops, I meant Ward from Sevier County. I figure if the kid can press 580lbs off his chest, then throwing a 12lb ball shouldn't be too far out of his reach.
  5. My French sucks, so I'm not really sure where this thread is headed. But I actually haven't heard much about Brentwood lately. And still, they are the defending 5A champions, so shouldn't they deserve a little pub?

    Josh Ward

Has he ever done throwing events in track? If he's got quick feet, he could be an unreal thrower.
  7. Yep, I'm 2001. I was pretty sure we were the same class as I remembered our convo in a thread about our "epic" freshman team battle of 1997. But I do remember that defense. A great team all around, but a stout defense to boot. I remember being impressed by the depth and consistensy that MBA put together every year, and that one just the same.
  8. Redtwin, refresh me. Who was on that '99 squad? That would've been our junior year, right? I think we're the same class. Was that a state title year?
  9. This thread has been a good read. I guess I'll chip in now. I've played against Riverdale and have all the respect in the world for them. I think they have proven everything they have to, to anyone who cares. Yes, it'd be fun to see how they match up against Robert E. Lee or Trinity but to be honest, in the grand scheme of things concerning their program, staff, school board and most importantly, the players (who are also students, mind you), what they have to gain out of playing out of state powers, just may not balance out for them. The effort by parents and boosters to provide transportation may not be deemed worth the respect gained by the trip itself. The players, in December after having what are usually great seasons, probably will not feel any better or worse about their big fat rings wether or not they played out of state teams for their non region games. In short, I'd say it is just a matter of opinion and value. I think everyone on this thread has had valid points and no one is wrong, and that's what makes a great thread.

A hot bed of talent with a young, energetic coach to guide them equals another tough Franklin Rebel squad.
  11. Not even being from Memphis, some team seem obvious. Melrose, East, Whitehaven and Houston always field tough squads.
  12. Brandon, did you play with Sammie Baker at BA?

    Bench press

I would love to watch Ward lift, because I would guess that his technique is flawless, identical to a punch off the ball. With his grip tight to his shoulders, elbows in and back tight. The only thing more accurate to simulate the punch is an incline bench press because of the angle, but I would venture a guess that Wards has a strong incline as well. Call it a hunch. 14. That is a guy with some real fiber to him. I met his wife once while she was carrying and I wish them the best of luck.
  15. Hey hey hey...I'm all about some banter. But the TE is part of my family now, so you know I've got to jump in when I can. Banter away guys, have a good one.

    Bench press

Or it could just be a highly emphasised, widely understood barometer of strength.
  17. Anyone know what he's doing now? Is he still at MTSU? Playing time?

    Bench press

I recall in my junior year of high school my principal, who was a regular at UT strength clinics, returned from Knoxville one weekend with this insane story about an eight grader who bench pressed something like 405lbs. I do believe that young man's name was Josh Ward. So I'd say he's been on a steady incline over the years due to a great work ethic. Besides, look at the caliber of competitions he enters in. You know they test thoroughly. The kid is just simply the real deal. [Edited by boneal52 on 4-2-03 11:43A]
  19. I haven't seen the kid in forever. I'm sure he's makin people laugh somewhere.
  20. LOL...good eye, Coach.
