I agree with frog that the problem starts and the top. The problem also usually starts with money....or lack there of in the county school system. Taking a team off the schedule because you can not beat them on a consistent basis looks bad. Questions remain. Will Alcoa drop Heritage and William Blount off their basketball and other sports schedules? Will Heritage and William Blount ever be able to compete with the better teams in 5A if they can not compete against good 2A teams? Will Blount County ever fund and support educational and athletic programs the way Alcoa and Maryville do?

Brice did do a hatchet job on the Govs......There is always something that keeps William Blount from achieving as they should.......Regretably a large proportion of that starts at home and filters into the school system and county government.....The people at William Blount and the Blount county schools in general, can never get unified and pulling in one direction on anything........Whether it is arguing about text books, school names, to build or not to build needed schools, who is the director of schools, and most anything else, including sports.......Sadly same song, 99th verse................

I think all the teams from Blount county will be improved.......Heritage will have new enthusism and better skilled athletes......Alcoa has some outstanding juniors who are now experienced......Maryville is Maryville, deep and talented......William Blount has their most speed ever in the offensive backfield..........

Well here we are again....same song....different verse.... It all starts at the top....I am moving into Maryville after Christmas break....But I still hate it for the kids, coaches, and fans....Maybe the county commission will vote for a coach to have at least a $900 increase....They voted themselves one...As far as the school board goes leave Treadway and Talbott....And then clean house.............................

GovMan I like you am totally disgusted with the Blount County school board. I heard so much negative feedback on Pack and how bad he was for the teachers and the students. I went out and voted for some of these school board members who are now sticking a knife in the backs of these kids. All I heard were things will be better if Pack is out of here.............Well needless to say I was totally wrong for believing that. Looking back on it now, Pack knew better how to solicit money from the county commission than any of these bozos we have now. The political witch hunt became more important to some on the school board than what is best for the kids. That is just plain wrong and I have had enough. I only have one child in school presently and she is only in the second grade. I have two others that are not yet old enough to attend............I have anguished over this decision for months and my wife and myself have come to the conclusion that we will put our house on the market. The interest rates are extremely favorable now and we are presently looking for a building lot in Maryville. We agreed that getting them in Maryville schools at a younger age would also benefit them..............I know exactly how you feel GovMan. I will still pull for William Blount at least until my kids compete against them, if they ever play any sports. I was raised in Blount county schools and they were close to my heart like you said earlier. My children however are closer. I owe it to them to give them the best opportunity I can afford. They deserve the best that my wife and I can provide. It all boils down to the fact that Blount County school board refuses to put kids first. They are more interested in political axe grinding and I will not permit my kids to be used as pawns in such hogwash.........

Back to football. Thanks for the input GovMan. I wonder with all the whiddling going on in the school system again, if the coaches supplements will be cut too? With some personnel be asked to cut their jobs to 11 or 10 1/2 months, how with this affect coaching? This is again an embarrassment. Kids being put last. Classes and programs being cut at both high schools. Maybe someday we will put education and kids back to a higher level. With the present administration in the school board and county commission I have come to the realization it is not a PRIORITY with them. What is next. Maybe tomorrow I will open up the Daily Times and read, BLOUNT COUNTY FOOTBALL COACHES TO COACH ONLY NINE GAMES THIS SEASON DUE TO BUDGET CUTS.

What has been happening this summer with the Blount Co. teams? Have we seen any progress? Have there been any transfers? Thanks. BB

What kind of time table are we looking at on naming a replacement? How many of the current assistants will stay at W.B.? Let's hear it GovMan.

GovMan that is a pretty good list. I would take any of those coaches mentioned. Which White are you referring to? Will W.B. make it financially appealing enough to hire and keep one of these coaches? Susie I can't stand Maryville either. As hard as I have looked and wanted to find an excuse, I do not believe they recruit. Their success makes people want to be part of their program. I long for the day when that will happen at W.B. Hopefully I will live that long. For W.B. to have the Alcoa and Maryville kind of success and tradition, the people at the top, be that county commission or school board, are going to have to put kids first. That will mean taking a stand and putting their money and support into Blount county athletics. Not just giving lip service to this issue. I have real reservations about that mind set existing from the majority of the people presently holding those positions. Hopefully they will make me out to be a liar. Hope they do. However, I won't be holding my breath.

When will W.B. name a new coach? Are we going to have spring practice? Seems to me we need more of a sense of urgency. We need to get someone on board and soon. Are more Blount County politics slowing down the process? I see where the county commission has told the the school board to cut from their budget again. Same song, different verse. The kids in Blount County are the last to be served, AGAIN!
