  1. Yeah, he is 'no nonsense'. He's definitely OLD SCHOOL.
  2. Or, what he means to that school and the community. All you have to do is watch the championship game from last year, and in particular, pay close attention to the interview he gave at half time. Why would a man who is lauding how the football team is leading the school academically be trying to play players who can't make grades, when he is the one who makes sure those boys get their school work so they can get in college? All of the allegations are all out of whack with his character. I understand how folks outside of Memphis think of him ... but those of us who actually pay attention to what the program is doing know better. Teli is about using football to get into college. He is all about furthering your education. Doesn't matter if you get a scholly to a big school or a small school. You can't get young men into college by grade altering. It will come back and bite you. College coaches WON'T recruit your players, they will stay away like your young men have the plague. You get into college by doing your school work and paying attention in class. He and coach Saulsberry are alike in that regard. Now, all of a sudden he's grade fixing to win games? Yeah ... there is something shady going on for sure.
  3. It happens every year. Some deserving young man isn't included.

  10. BGIM: Week 11 - High school football players of the week John Varlas , john.varlas@commercialappeal.com7 p.m. CDT November 3, 2016 (Photo: Wade Payne/Associated Press) Offense Corey Jones, St. George's: Jones was at his spectacular best in Friday's 61-17 victory at University School of Jackson that gave the Gryphons the regular season region title. The senior re-wrote the school record book with 10 catches for 245 yards and five scores. It's his third 200-yard receiving game this year. Defense Traven Pulliam, Trezevant: The Bears head into the playoffs on the heels of an impressive 54-0 win over Hillcrest last Thursday, and Pulliam was a big key. The junior returned two interceptions for scores, one for 44 and one for 109 (although that one will officially be credited as 100 per high school rules). Special teams Hosea Franklin, Kirby: Franklin has been one of the area's best playmakers over the last couple of years, but he outdid himself in last Friday's 41-7 victory over Southwind that lifted the Cougars into the 5A playoffs. The senior returned two kickoffs for touchdowns (72, 76) and ran for 225 yards on 25 carries and scored three more times to finish with 373 all-purpose yards.
  11. East High's basketball team to play on national TV John Varlas , john.varlas@commercialappeal.com7:23 p.m. CDT November 2, 2016 (Photo: Mark Zaleski/Associated Press) East High will take on national power Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in a game that will be televised on ESPN2. The Mustangs and the Hawks will play Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. at Southwind High. East is the defending AAA state champion and will be the favorites once again, thanks to the return of standouts such as AAA Mr. Basketball winner Alex Lomax, T.J. Moss (ranked 59th in ESPN's class of 2018) and Chandler Lawson (ranked 18th in ESPN's class of 2019). The visitors from Chattanooga have two terrific prospects of their own, 6-5 guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker (ranked 29th in ESPN's class of 2017 and committed to Virginia Tech) and 6-5 guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (committed to Florida). The East-Hamilton Heights game will be preceded by White Station taking on Southwind at 6.
  12. HC could make this interesting if they can sustain drives against that Ridgeway 'D'. I don't know if they can though. They haven't in the past.
  13. Thanks for the comments and posts. I suggest the other half break out mapquest. Even though Melrose Stadium is not hard to find.
  14. Remember ... this was all created by the NEW principal. HE went public. He involved SCS and the TSSAA. It was all SELF IMPOSED. LATER ... it was discovered that Teli, nor any of the coaching staff, nor any of the school teachers did anything wrong. Yeah ... there is something shady going on, I agree. But, it's not the coach and it's not any of the teachers, or somebody would be fired by now. I've already drawn my own conclusions. Draw your own.

  16. Give an explanation to who? The only organization that an explanation needs to be given to is the TSSAA. They have already shown that they aren't interested. The governing board of education to which they are under jurisdiction, Shelby County Schools, hasn't uttered a word and, from the looks of it, they will continue to handle this situation internally. So, again, to whom are they obligated to report anything to other then those two functioning bodies? I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

  18. In the past few years HC has lost in the 2nd round to Memphis teams. In 2014 they lost in the 2nd round to Ridgeway 47-21. In 2015 they lost in the 2nd round to Memphis East 40-16. I don't see them slowing down Ridgeway's potent offense this year either. Ridgeway breaks the 40 mark against their defense this year as well.
  19. I take it that there aren't many JNS fans on the 'T'.
  20. BHS: Have you checked your email lately? I sent you a link the other day.
  21. Oh ... Cordova is on that revenge kick. They will represent, no doubt!
  22. MJGoldenbears was just bored. That's all. Are there any WC posters on the 'T'?
