  1. I think it's a great idea to have a panel of coaches send in their rankings as a poll... Another option is to have someone impartial, like Andre at unapproved website do the rankings with input from coaches... Obivously different tourneys mean different things, and it also helps to see more head to head matchups that we lacked last year (only Pump n Run and the Ballerz, Angels and the Ballerz, YOMCA and the Ballerz, were the only top ranked teams that played. Stars, Travelers did not play any of the top teams from the state, and none of the memphis teams played eachother...) In 17's, there are some very strong Memphis teams, though none dominant like past years: M33M will be very very good with a mix of 16u and 17 players YOMCA is always strong and has the best player in the state Pump n Run has reloaded with a very very dangerous roster, and also list Culpepper Memphis Warriors will be a major surprise and are as talented as any team Celtics has Culpepper (maybe) and some surprises It will be fun to see it all play out... Look for rankings very soon
  2. Made this post on unapproved website, but I'm interested to see who everyone thinks are the best teams in TN this year... I will do Statewide rankings this year to hopefully create more interest and debate... Summer ball is such a major part of each kid's development and recruitment these days, and there are so many quality teams accross the state, I would like to see more discussion going on about such...
  3. Looks to be a great field of teams... Still hate that only one team per pool makes it out... I'd say the Celtics in 17's would have to be the favorites. Thunder should be very good as well... ACT weekend could end up hurting the Ballerz... Should be very competitive, and the 9pm Sat matchup vs. the Ballerz and Celtics should be a fun one to watch, and hopefully the first of a number of matchups between these two talented teams... Celtics 16's also look to be very good... In 16's, the Thunder should also be very good as well... The Ballerz teams should be solid as well. The Stallions also will look to build upon a successfull 05 campaign... Can't wait to get started!!!
  4. Midstate Ballerz Elite 15u Midstate Ballerz Elite 16u Midstate Ballerz Select 16u Midstate Ballerz Elite 17u Midstate Ballerz Select 17u will all be in attendance...
  5. 2006 Ballerz Challenge of Champions When: May 12-14 Where: Lexington HS (Lexington, TN) Ages: 13u, 14u, 15u, 16u, 17u Cost: $300 (1 team), $500 (for 2), $700 (for 3), or just $800 (for 4 teams) Scouting Services and College Coaches will be in attendance, and a report will be sent out to Division 1 coaches, and scouting services that were not in attendance... Top players that have attended in the past include a who's who of top TN prospects: Brandon Wright (North Carolina), JP Prince (Arizona), Anthony Mason Jr (St John's), Reginald Delk (Mississippi State), Richard Delk (Mississippi State), Xavier Webb (Ole Miss), RouSean Cromwell (USC), Jarvis Varnardo (Mississippi State), Jeremy Williams (Colorado), Jordan Mincy (Kent State), Calvin Wiliams (Colorado), Jay Watkins (San Fransisco), Desmond Yates (MTSU), Brian Lake (MTSU), Shawn Morgan (Detroit), Jeff Smith (Chattanooga), Drake Reed (Austin Peay), Corey Pfleiger (Rice), Courtney Pigram (ETSU), Reiley Ervin (TSU), Brian Fisk (Lipscomb), Adrian Banks (Arkansas State), Lawrence Kinnard (UAB), Taloe Taylor (ETSU), Jeremy Saffore (Chattanooga), Joe Bailey (UT Martin), Josh Mack (Coastal Carolina), Tim Johnson (Wofford), Earnest Fields (Austin Peay), among the other D-1 signees that have played in this event... The Ballerz Challenge of Champions has had write ups on Hoopscoop.com, Hoopmasters.com, unapproved website.com, and unapproved website.com, among others This is a great event between the busy April schedule and Memorial Day weekend, pitting the top teams in the State, and beyond (teams from Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Arkansas have played in the past and will be there this year)... This is a call to all of the Top teams in the State to attend and prove it on the court... email coachshul@hotmail.com
  6. Marquis Weddle is a Division 1 player... Right now, Marquis sports two Division 1 offers that I know of: UT-Martin and Mississippi Valley State... Alabama State and TSU are among those other D-1 schools that are showing interest. This list may have grown since the end of State Tourney. D-II and NAIA schools have been all over him for a while now, many of which offered early. Some are starting to back off because of the D-1 offers that are coming in... Marquis is a great player, a great scorer, and one of the best kids I have ever been around. He will make some D-1 school very happy at the next level...
  7. Culleoka, I must disagree. First off, winning all three State titles this year and last seems like dominance to me (A-AAA). Secondly, you say that "the best teams out of the east and middle didnt get a chance to show what they had in the state tourney" is completely false. They had the chance, and lost before even getting to state. Grace was the best in East Tn all year in Class A, and Cosby was ranked #1 all year. Wayne Co knocked out Culleoka, and represented Middle Tn. In fact, Lake Co, Middleton, and Middle College would have all been right there with Union City as a possible state champion. Honestly, out of the top Six Class A teams in the state, 5 of the top 6 were from the West (along with Grace). In AA, the Top four were clearly from the West (Liberty, Mitchell, Bolivar, Haywood), and you can make a legitimate argument for more, including BTW, Carver, and others... AAA, Middle Tn really represented well, with an oustanding run by Shelbyville, along with Whites Creek, Hunters Lane, and Siegel. Great year for Middle Tn in AAA. But still, Hamilton went 39-0 with a state title, Raleigh Egypt was a top 3 team in the state, and Ridgeway was very good... West Tn was in fact dominant again this year with 3 State Champions...
  8. Scotty was certainly the talk of the Showcase... Kevin Smith was outstanding! He showed much imporoved handles and outside shot to go with great size on the wing and outstanding athleticism. Scott Thomas played well, but not his best ball. The kid is definitely a player though... Skyler McBee did attend, and played well, until a turned ankle prematurely ended his time at the Showcase... Definitely a Class of 2009 player to watch with great court savvy and basketball IQ who seems to really make those around him better... Full profiles up this week. Check www.unapproved website.com for more profiles from one of the scouting world's best
  9. Showcase went very well. 93 kids attended the showcase, hosted on the beautiful campus of Tennessee State University. The Gentry Center was a perfect location for the event... Full reports will be posted soon... University Heights Academy's Sophomore phenom Scotty Hopson carried home the Showcase MVP title, as the 6'6 guard put on a show. Scotty not only becomes the first sophomore to win the Showcase MVP award, but also the first non-senior to win the title outright But there were 92 other talented players as well, so more info will be released soon...
  10. A great day for some players I am very close to, and I just wanted to say congratulations to them all, as well as how proud I am of them all!!! Congrats to Marquis Weddle, for getting the gold ball, State MVP, and Mr. Basketball!!! One of the nicest kids you'll ever meet, and one of the best scorers you'll ever see... Congrats to all my Liberty boys!!! Red, Big Boy, B.Evans, Sain, 'Von-- what an unbelievable run to a State Title!!! And congrats also to Red on State MVP!!! Congrats as well to Barry Stewart, the hardest working kid I have ever coached. I have never seen a kid progress as much over his High School career as Barry has, topping it off with a Mr. Basketball award!!! In addition, congrats to helping lead a team within a point of arguably the most improbable and spectacular State Championship run of all time... Congrats to all of these 2005 Midstate Ballerz!!!
  11. If anyone is even HINTING at hating on Shelbyville, Stewart, Coach Thomas, or the rest of the squad, then u have officially no common sense whatsoever. After beating the best team in Nashville, upsetting a Memphis team with only 1 loss (by one point) all season long, and then taking an undefeated, top 5 ranked team Nationally into double overtime by hitting clutch shot time and time again only to fall by a single point on a ball that was halfway down......I would say Shelbyville and it's players have earned some respect...
  12. Registration from 8:30am to 9:30am at Tennessee State University (Gentry Center). Cost is just $20... Look forward to seeing everyone there!!!
  13. As much as I apologize for a late notice move, the Gomab Showcase VI has been moved to Tennessee State University (TSU) at the Gentry Center (Main court!!!) Again, same time, cost, etc, but we needed more space to accomodate all participants!!! Many college coaches were contacted throughout the Boys State tournament, and many are planning on attending Saturday...

  17. Wow, what a first round matchup!!! Two great teams, and it's only too bad that they have to see eachother in the first round... This game features a lot of kids that are very familiar with eachother during the summer as well
  18. Watch out for Briarcrest... Very good team this year, with their three best players being Freshmen and Sophs (1 Soph, 2 Fr)... They are also very well coached, and will be a year older... As good as Brian is, there is no way to replace Brandon. What he brought to the table defensively and on the boards cannot be underestimated. BA will still be very good, but they are beatable... Look for BGA to be good as well, returning 6'9 Saunders. Fr Parker will now be a soph, and look for possible tranfer PG Cameron Jordan to step in and really elevate this team, if BGA is where he does end up... Elliston Baptist in Memphis will also be loaded with talent, behind 6'7 soph (will be Jr) Bowen, and 6'5 G Thomas... And never count out ECS, who is coached by former White Station boss Terry Tippett...
  19. I had heard that rumor a month ago, but wasn't sure what to think... So it's official???
  20. To my knowledge, when Greeneville played Craigmont, two of Craigmont's top players were not eligible until January, Street and McCulley, who are 6'8 and 6'5... I'm sure Greeneville is a very good team: they wouldn't be here if they weren't...but... Hamilton is tough Everyone knows about 6'8 Williams and 6'8 Watkins, the two senior D-1 signees. But Hamilton also has High Major Junior prospect 6'5 Devyan Hunter, and a pair of D-1 guards in Myron Strong and Broderick Gilchrist. Hamilton can also bring 6'5 Sr Wing paul Hagler off the bench, along with diminutive sparkplug G Pete McIntyre. This team has size, guard play, outside shooting, and athleticism... Hamilton will be too much for Greeneville, though I am looking forward to seeing Wiggens...
  21. Current High School Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. Even a few top 8th graders will be in attendance...
  22. Heck yeah!!! Congrats to Quis and UC!!!
