  1. Alright, just took a look at it, and on tape, it's very, very clear. As the two came together, LC's #16 had the ball. Oneida's #8 steps in front and clears it off his foot, running into him in the process. As the collision happens, #16 turns to his left, and extends and swings his arm as if elbowing #8, but with an extended arm. The ref had an angle that all he sees is a player swing like trying to "strike", or punch sideways, and an Oneida player go down. It APPEARS that #16 hits #8 in the back of the head with the swing, thus the red. On tape, it looks again like a good call, and #16 might have a problem with a disciplinary hearing. I'm trying to think of how to get a copy to you so you can see it for yourself. It looks like he was trying to decapitate the player. I'm sure that wasn't his intent, but it sure looked bad.
  2. *shrug* I dunno. Actually, I'm fairly sure Scott Co. is gonna finish 7th, then I *THINK* Harriman 6, AC 5, Loudon 4. Not even moderately sure of those.
  3. Alright, after a night of decompression, here's my take. Both teams played exceptional soccer. LC showed their skill, and their speed, and Oneida showed their tenacity and speed as well. Both teams showed amazing heart. The officiating, in my opinion, was even for both sides (taking in mind that I did not see the action that led to the red, and I'm gonna review the tape on it here in a few minutes). right after we finished our tape there, we went back and reviewed the non-call on the last play, and in my opinion, it was the right call. I didn't want to believe that, but the player that knocked DeAraujo over got the ball first, and it was shoulder to shoulder. The other defender pulled his leg away, and had no impact on the play. Overall, a game I would pay to see played again. Oneida's goal was DeAraujo carrying down the left side, into the box, and a shot that got away from Garcia, and rolled across the face to Devon Welch who buried it from about 2 yeards. DeAraujo banged another off the post, and McCollugh had the save of the year, deflecting a shot at full stretch off the post midway through the second half. If only Oneida could have held 7 more minutes...
  4. Cool, looking forward to calling the action tonight.. I know we're off topic, so one more thing.. have a safe trip up here, guys, and good luck.
  5. heh Dude, I meant AFTER the game, or before... I'm gonna be broadcasting it, so I'm gonna be busy during too. What's your number, if I can ask?
  6. Hey, lc, where'd Oneida end up? They were 9 last week, according to what I can find. Also, you're gonna be up here tonight, right? Come say hi.
  7. Farragut lost. period. You lose, you not #1. Just that simple. And incidentally... rankings shouldn't mean ANYTHING to players or coaches. You still gotta go win the tournament to be state champ. Go earn back the #1 in the tourney.
  8. Alright, kiddies, according my incredibly unscientific calculations, this is how the district race breaks down (at least for the top 3)... If Oneida beats LC by any margin, Oneida finishes #1, LC a likely 2, Kingston a likely 3 (depending on make ups this week, but Oneida will be done with their sched and uncatchable) If Oneida/LC draw, LC is #1 (again depending on assumptions), Oneida 2, Kingston 3 If LC wins and Oneida gets shut out, Kingston goes 2, Oneida 3, LC 1 Oneida scores 1 in a loss, thhey tie Kingston on points, I'm not sure what the next tiebreaker is after head-to-head, if it's goals against, LC has to score 3 or less for Oneida to be 2, 4, they go to next tiebreak, 5 or more Kingston goes 2 Oneida scores 2 in a loss, they are definately 2, kingston 3. whew. both LC and Kingston have to make up with Scott Co. this week, so that's why I'm a little tenuous. There may be others, too. Just not enough info to do the bottom 4 for me.
  9. Don't mean to sound pessimistic, but I just hope it doesn't rain. Sloppy fields are no fun But yeah, I agree with the 7-0 prediction, just hope it doesn't get ugly and nobody gets hurt. GO both sides!
  10. Goose, check our website, www.hive105.com, I got current schedule and scores up there... as for winning teams, I don't know other records, they lost to Webb 2-1, hard fought game... they showed very well in Nashville over the weekend, too... come see it, it's gonna be entertaining.
  11. Good question, he should have weighed in by now. And I think the predictions have been remarkably steady, either 3-1 Oneida or 1-0 Kingston... so by that, if Oneida scores, they win! But I think everybody agrees Kingston is good enough to score at home against Oneida, it's whether they can hold down Oneida's scoring threats. Day's good, I grant that, but he's not superman, even David Seaman got beat now and then. I still say Oneida 3-1. C'mon, Kazam, we're waiting on ya!

It's apparently a touchier subject than I ever would have thought it would be. I don't condone it as an official, but I also acknowledge that there are situations where you should just let it ride. Talk to the kid, but just let it go the first time. NEVER would I let "20 words a game" ride, in my wildest dreams. If you're doing that, move up to college exclusively, becuase all you're doing as a ref is corrupting the high school level. Let college kids who are bigger than you cuss at you, but stop the high schoolers before it gets out of hand. Referees are given authority over sportsmanship issues for a reason. Exercise common sense, and keep control of what's going on out there.
  13. Nah, it doesn't upset me. All are entitled to their opinion... yes, they have Day is goal, but this is also the same team that lost to LC 4-1... it'll certainly be interesting. And the movie is a classic, what's not to love about it? Even if the versions they show on TBS cut out the best parts (SHERRY! Woo! And the Mitch kissing scene... great stuff).
  14. No, Oneida winning wasn't the shocker, doing it by 2 at kingston is the shocker part of that
  15. wow.. goiod post. We Oneida people, tho, only have Thurs to look forward to, so we're gonna talk Don't think I'm gonna be able to make it, but I wish I could... got a big event coming up Saturday. Oneida will have DeAraujo back is my understanding, and with him and the confidence they have coming out of Nashville, 3-1 Oneida at Kingston for a shocker. Even a draw, tho, puts Oneida in a position to POSSIBLY have the district title come down to Lenoir City at home *bounces* THAT will be fun.

Okay, it was or. Fair enough, and generally, I agree with your interpretation. Howqever, there does come a line when screaming obscenities at the sky loudly and repeatedly should be dealt with. After a talking to, if it happens again, woe be on your head, in my opinion. And really, this should all be dealt with at the captain's meeting before the game. Address it if you think it's going to be a problem (either as a referee or as a player, refs almost always ask if you have any questions or comments to make, and honest to God, we LIKE you to have questions if they're on your mind, we'll explain things). So all you captains out there, if you've been wondering about an interpretation made by an official, before the game, ASK. You may not like the answer, but you'll know where the official stands, and I think the point of all this was to eliminate the uncertainty of where everybody stood.
  17. I'm willing if you need one more, Coacht.

Actually, in soccer, if I remeber correctly, (and I may not, so if I'm wrong, tell me) the wording in the rule is "foul and abusive language", which is wildly open to interpretation. I understand the need for consistency, and as a referee, I'm all for it. Give me STRICT guidelines, what is good, what is bad, and we'll have no problems. But we're told to "use our best judgement", and we do. Alot of people disagree with our judgement, and that's fine. But yes, better guidelines would be helpful.

Well said. If there is going to be a rule, it should be a by-law that applies everywhere. The problem you have is, the coaches/school administrators vote on the rules. Referees in general like more rules, because it takes the guesswork out and defines what is what. Players/coaches/fans don't like more rules because it gives them more to remember and "takes the fun out". And then you have different refs having different interpretations of the exact same rule (as we've seen here). Humans are strange creatures. But as for that players getting tossed for a slang word (such as c**p?), directed at the sky, I think that's a go over, talk to the kid, tell him to be careful, and move on. Not even a card there. We used to have team practice at saying non-cussing, yet satisfactory, expletives to say (our favorite was "paper cup"... go ahead, say it like you're cussing... or "frog chat")... got team bonding, laughs, and had the same cathartic effect on the field as real cussing.

Actually, I have, twice, and I was the ref on the basketball court both times. Once a player, once a coach, player thought he was fouled, turned to the player, and said "Get off my f'n back" and I t"d him and tossed him. Coach looked me dead in the eye and said "You're the s-yest referee I've ever seen", and got tossed, for saying the two magic words... any cuss word following the word "you". But still, cussing should be a card, in my opinion. Red if blatant and directed at someone, yellow for just general. I don't like that they get away with it in the Premier League in England, and I don't like it here.

Personally, I think that's an idiotic rule. 2 yellows = red for a reason. When you get a yellow, calm down. A second should cost you and your team, as it does in any other level of play. A rule like this just promotes unsportsmanlike play.
  22. Rubens DeAraujo, #8, Central Forward in a 4-2-3-1. Very good on the ball, good imagination off the ball, not really tested in the air, *deadly* finisher. I think he might have had 10 goals in 6 games, maybe more like 13-15... good luck to his mother, and hopefully he'll be able to return soon.
  23. I predict it will be cold and wet. After that, we'll see. Oneida 3-0
  24. I think so too. He's got credentials, and he'll be good for the school, I think.
  25. It shouldn't have, not on the sweet charter bus they brought I'd love to travel like that Entertaining game, Webb held the run of play, Oneida counterattacked well all game, both teams had good chances for more. Webb's first goal was a result of miscommunication in the back, and their second could be chalked up to the same as a corner bounced through the box to the far post and was thighed in... Oneida's was a result of a defender for Webb making a difficult steal, and when he did, the ball happened to go too far from the center defender, and Oneida got a breakaway. Good game, both teams have work to do, but both looked very good.
