  1. Excellent choices!!!! I wholeheartedly agree.
  2. Wow! Big win for Mt. Juliet. Congrats! So Beech hosts the tournament?
  3. Oh no, you haven't started preseason off season yet? It may be too late!!! But don't lose hope. There are special "vitamins" that you can get that will get her caught back up. She may balk at the daily injections at first but it won't take long before she's wanting two a day. (You'll probably need to sign her up for electrolysis and hormone treatment at the same time but it's worth it in the long run.) If you really get worried, I know a guy who knows a doctor who can do some out patient surgery that's supposed to work miracles. It involves shortening a ligament or bone or something on the inside of the pitching arm. The doctor guarantees that the awkward angle this creates is hardly noticeable off the field (if the patient keeps his/her arm in a jacket pocket). Again though, regardless of what your child wants, it's really your decision. On a completely different note, I sure hope I'm not the same person as cc, Slyder, E5, Old Timer, LC, and the rest. I've been taking my medicine faithfully and my shrink promised my other me's would go away if I did. And cc, We got your back.
  4. HHS 5 GHS 4 But that's all I know...
  5. Okay, here's the next "what if": Beech and Mt. Juliet face off Tues. One of them has, to lose unfortunately. If both teams win their games Mon., then who is top dog? Will Hendersonville be in contention if they win their last two? Geez, it's getting down to the wire... Good luck, guys, esp. you Seniors.
  6. Slyder, E5, CC, et. al This has to be one of my all time favorite posts. (Of course sarcasm is my favorite lost art form..) As far as the kickball concern, I've found that tying a 50 pound weight around each ankle greatly increases leg strength. It's even more effective if you have your son/daughter tread water for 20 minutes (in water 10 ft. deep or more) with those weights. I'm pretty sure that the water prevents all those pesky knee injuries, unless they spend too much time on the bottom (a situation/problem that cures itself). Submarine pitching is another matter completely. (Well, there's the water coincidence but other than that....) I can think of two other sports that can help a young submarine pitcher: tetherball and pingpong. Both require that same underhand action in certain instances, call for pretty good hand-eye coordination, and favor the taller player. A good rule of thumb for off season practice schedules for either sport is to have one hour of practice for each year of the child's age (e.g. 2 yr. olds could only practice 2 hours a day, 6 year olds would be limited to 6 hours daily). Unfortunately, if your child exhibits signs of apathy, inability, or "attitude problems", you may have to double your efforts (and your practice times). But then it's worth it to force, I mean mold them into what we know is best for them.
  7. Is MJ at home or away against Beech? Ok, so as of Thurs. night, Beech is back in 1st and Hendersonville and MJ are tied for second? Besides MJ, who else does Beech face? (district games) Who does Hendersonville have left (besides Gallatin)?
  8. I agree completely. And forfeits are darn discouraging.
  9. Smyrna had a double header-picked up a loss against Oakland and a win against Hendersonville.
  10. Dang, E5, wish you hadn't reminded me. Saw a coach getting dressed in the parking lot @ Drake's Creek that year. It wasn't the layers of long johns that got me; it was the black panty hose underneath the long johns that I'm still trying to forget.... I've had enough memories - I'm heading to Florida for Spring Break...
  11. Score: WHHS 2 - HHS 10 Temp.: 39 F Winds: northerly w/ gusts up to 27 mph. Ya' gotta love it...
  12. At Drake's Creek (Known/winners are underlined): 9:30 Davidson vs. Hunters Lane 11:15 Friendship Christian vs. Hunters Lane 1:00 Hendersonville vs. Davidson 1:00 Friendship Christian vs. MBA 2:45 MBA vs. Hendersonville 4:30 Goodpasture vs. McGavock 6:15 Lipscomb vs. McGavock 8:00 Lipscomb vs. Goodpasture I think that's right. Been a long day.
  13. Here's Sat. schedule for Drake's Creek. Barring rain. 9:30 Davidson vs. Hunters Lane (Field #13) 11:15 Friendship Christian vs. Hunters Lane (Field #13) 1:00 Hendersonville vs. Davidson (Field #13) 1:00 Friendship Christian vs. MBA (Field #3) 2:45 MBA vs. Hendersonville (Field #3) 4:30 Goodpasture vs. McGavock (Field #3) 6:15 Lipscomb vs. McGavock (Field #3) 8:00 Lipscomb vs. Goodpasture (Field #3) Friday night, I know Hendersonville beat Hunters Lane and Lipscomb beat Friendship Christian. I think that MBA beat Goodpasture but I'm not sure about it or the Davidson/McGavock game. (Well, we had to eat sometime and Demos' sure was close...really good, too!) (If any of the Friendship Christian people happen to read this: how is the outfielder who sprained/dislocated/or broke his thumb on Friday?)
  14. Hendersonville got in all 5 for the walk off double against Friendship Christian but the other games @ Drake's Creek were postponed.

    Travel Teams

I think some of you misunderstood the sarcasm here. (Surely this was just comedic satire and not a real dad/coach/fanatic.) Travel Ball? I'd say check two things first: 1. Team Personalty (Competent coach? Likeable parents? Similarily talented players? Within reasonable budget? "Do"able?) 2. Child's Personality (Should be considered 1st...) (Does s/he WANT to???) A few other questions to consider: WHO are we doing this for? Am I willing to spend my summer vacation with an entire baseall team and their extended families? Does my child's ability and interest warrant the time/money expenditure? When all is said and done, we do our best. And hope our kids do better.
  16. "Use the force, Luke." "You better smack your dog, Blue. He's lying to you." "He couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle." "Get a stick and kill it." "We looked like Ned and the Third Reader."

Hmmm. Did either team get past the region? I think I remember HHS getting knocked out by Clarksville (which was either region or subregion) but I can't remember how MJHS fared. (Vol24 and Gville80 - Good luck with another season. I've missed you guys....sniff)

Thanks Vol24, and whoever ends up playing mid-May, do us proud... Oh, and LOL E5!!
  19. Nope, I believe it. (Also couldn't believe he hadn't been mentioned yet either...) Saw him last year when he was hurt and relegated to left field. Wasn't that impressed until I saw his line drive throw to home. Several of us watching whispered the same expletive at the same time. The throw was VERY impressive. Hope the kid has a great season, even if we DO have to play 'em....

This one's always a dogfight. "IF you can make it through the districts...."
  21. HHS catcher is Alex White. Pretty decent left handed hitter too.
  22. You may have a point. I don't know much about basketball but I DO know that the HHS coach puts Hewgley in when they need the points. And I heard it was 21 in a row (but that may be exaggerated...) I've seen him play in two sports and he always gives 100%.
  23. Is that right? Wilson Central beat Hendersonville (by 10 times as many points)? Anyone have details?
