  1. Mt Juliet's catcher (sorry, don't know the name) was pretty decent in the game I saw. Hit well too.

Geez, Johnnie, I'm sorry I misspoke and to be brutally honest, I am quite sure you know more than I would about the situation. But then if we're being brutally honest, you didn't really "quit" coaching either. (And how many screen names does one person need?)
  3. Baserunner sliding short of reaching base... "Somebody get him a map!"
  4. David, You are HILARIOUS!! And, of course, thanks again.
  5. One hitter... WOW!! WTG, Sonny!

Hmmm. So when they win, it's "loads and loads of talent" but when they lose it's the coach's fault. LOL Got to see the Beech-H'ville game tonight. Neither team looked more or less talented than the other but H'ville team was "up". Neither coach (Hayes or Hendrix) did anything resembling moronic (for their 24 cents an hour) but then maybe I just didn't see it. About the game.. Started out as a pretty good ballgame but 1st homer from HHS hit Beech hard. Successive HRs from H'ville (one guy hit 2...) made it tough to want to keep trying. On a more positive note, both sets of fans were amiable (it was kind of like a block party feel), it was a beautiful evening, the concession stand was good, and the music was great! Just might have been the perfect night for baseball. And I guess that's what really important...

From what I have heard (and I'm just an outsider, twice removed...), Hayes was left with a heck of a debt from the previous coach. That would explain the large roster. I also wonder if the coaching position was kind of dropped in his lap too. (I definately agree that Beech seems to have "rebuilding year" every year and have wondered why with that much talent...) Did Beech play tonight? (Mon.)
  8. 3rd base coach to homerun hitter (about 425 ft.) crossing third: "Way to get a piece of it." (You couldn't call Lassie... That IS funny!)

Sounds like you had a great win against Gallatin tonight! Maybe this is the start... As far as Coach Hayes goes, he seems to be a decent person. (Well, he's always been nice to me...) Can't really speculate on his team dynamics but I'm pretty sure Hayes is trying to make at least 25 kids (and their relatives) happy. And that's pretty near impossible.
  10. HHS wins on unearned run (in bottom of 12th, I think)...it was getting really late.

G'ville, I don't know what to tell you. I know they're a talented group but it seems like they always fall a little flat. Maybe they got a slow start, maybe a long basketball season hurt them, maybe it's hard to get that many guys together as a team. Or maybe it will all come together during the district tournament. Makes this game even more interesting...and frustrating. (Incidentally, from what I've seen, most 9AAA teams are doing okay against the 2 and 3 pitchers but have a tough time hitting anyone's ace. One exception I've seen recently was MJ.)
  12. Around $.23 an hour unless you count playoffs, hotel time during tournaments, or phone time (talking to parents, administrators, scouts, and college coaches). Then I guess it's more like 6 or 7 cents an hour. But then, thankfully, most high school coaches aren't in it for the money...
  13. MJ over Hendersonville (2-0)

As always, thanks again, David, for making my life a little bit easier!

Saw the championship game (Collierville over HHS). How'd the other Middle TN teams fare? (Riverdale, Fr. Ryan, MBA...?)
  16. Hmm, that's two upsets already...? Ya' just gotta love this district.

They had some decent hitters in the preseason game I saw. (Sorry, was about 12 games ago so I'm a bit foggy on details...)
  18. In Middle TN, this early in the season, I'd say consistently inconsistent. But that seems fair...
  19. Who played Mon. night? Any District games?
  20. Thanks Riverdaleman. Is it ok then, to stand outside of the dugout (to congratulate the batter) after a homerun?
  21. David, Next year, please inform God that He should make it sunny and pleasant, not too cool but cool enough to keep the bugs away, warm enough that the Bermuda has started to run (but not too warm that anyone should sweat), and that everyone goes home with a trophy. Geez, isn't the old baseball rule of thumb, "Some ya' win, some ya' lose, and some get rained out"? I know some of the strings that had to be pulled to get as many games in as you did (and I SURE know it wasn't easy). With the weather we had, I was surprised you got as many games in as you did. I'm sorry that not everyone understands the effort that goes into a tournament of this magnitude.
  22. I totally agree that most rules ARE reactionary. I'm just wondering which team caused the "no players on the field to congratulate a home run" thing... And are the umpires enforcing this where you are?
  23. Sounds like the Warrior Classic will determine who's best. Well, at least right now... Can't wait to see 'em all!
  24. Now THAT was an exciting ballgame!!!
