  9. This thread is nothing more than a personal attack by someone/people with an agenda against the Thunder, give it a rest, it makes us ALL look bad. You could substitute the YOMCA, Ballerz, Celtics or others and you could get someone to post something negative. This thread should be treated like a thread that attacks an individual and deleted.
  10. We are having 13-under/7th grade try-outs in Memphis Feb. 25. Interested? E-mail memphisball@bellsouth.net
  11. You mentioned JCM 's Fr. having beaten CBHS, that's not true, they haven't played. CBHS is undefeated going into today's game vs. Cordova.
  12. In Memphis the hardest hit had to be when Chris Walker #84 for CBHS literally knocked the helmet off a Melrose player after Melrose had blocked a CBHS FG attempt, the player hit the ground hard and his helmet flew thru the air as if you were watching a video game, even the Melrose crowd ooohed and aaahed.
  13. Man your info is almost as good as mine. My twin sister lives down the street from a man whose cousin knows the Y's coachs dog, the dog told this man that the team is so depleted that they aren't even going to Kingsport, instead they are playing in a Lacrosse tournament in Arkansas. What a shame.
  14. A couple of ways to look at it. Either coach the same age each year, which trust me has it's advantage, or move up with the same team. We are leaving for the Nike MDC, we should sit down in Kingsport and talk. If you think you can make money off of a shoe co. forget it, it don't work that way. You can get product to enhance your team.
  15. This used to happen in Memphis. Different coaches agreed as towhat ages they would coach. They steered past and present players to the other coaches teams, not every kid bought in, in time most did, the ones that wanted to get better, compete vs. the best and gain some exposure. In the mid-state area a group of coaches have to agree to work together, ages can be divided by mutual agreement, not everyone will participate, it may not happen, but it's a heckuva idea.
  16. There is distrust in Memphis also. The thing I think will make a difference in other parts of the state is the retention of coaches, I'm thrilled to see the same coaches coming back year after year, it will help your players and should strengthen your programs. This is my 21st year, I've had some horrible teams, fortunately I've also had good people around to help me get better so I can do a better job for our players.
  17. How good is McAdoo? Why isn't he playing AAU ball?
  18. I sat in stands by choice, to give a young guy the opportunity to be in the fire. We try to put the areas best on one team, at 17 Pump N RUN has the best players, the Y at 16 and 15, Bellevue at 14, the Y and Bellevue at 13. It makes a huge difference.
  19. Mr. B, Thanks for the kind words. I think some of your observations come from the fact that our roster spots are so competitive. We replaced 2 players before the state whose parents or the players themselves were griping about minutes. We try to sell our players on being something bigger than themselves, on sacrificing their minutes and points for the betterment of the team, our 15's have bought into it, so far. I still think the rest of the state is closing the gap on Memphis, from a talent standpoint, depth is our greatest advantage. The people who run the Elite and a few others in the middle part of the state are starting to have a vision and understanding of what it takes to compete nationally, I personally love to see the Ballerz and others do well nationally, it reinforces my belief that not only is Memphis hoops nationally on an elite level, but the whole state as well. My hat is off to the Thunder program for the great job they did with the 15-under state tournament.
  20. It's early or rather these players are to young for rankings, next year will tell more. Our 3, Ware, Jones, Mason and Brownsville's Taylor can be really good. 2 from the SE Elite have always impressed me, Henly and Williams. The Travelers Dowdle and their G Caldwell have a chance to be big-time players. This class could develop into a strong class nationally. I'd love to see these guys on the floor together.
