  11. Greenwheel maybe you need to catch up with the times. Lanier out at Columbia Notice that he was told Wed. and just today told his team. So that makes it 3 official District 8 coaches so far with a fourth on probation.
  12. Looks like this question has been answered... Coach Clark steps down
  13. For the third time since tournaments ended, a third coach is no longer at the helm of a District 8 girls basketball team. First Columbia and Lawrence County. Now Shelbyville. Coach Clark to step down So let the guessing begin...who replaces Coach Clark? Who might interview? The group is young again next year after graduating several kids. One junior and one sophomore on roster now. Lots of freshman who got lot of PT. Some even started. Thoughts?
  14. Shelbyville defeats Oneida 55-28 Oakland defeats Grainger Co. 47-38 Will put up this weeks schedule in a bit. Sunday - Varsity at SCHS 5:00 Webb vs. Lebanon 6:00 Wilson Ctl vs. Grainger Co. 7:00 Monroe Co. vs. Gallatin 8:00 Shelbyville vs Wilson Ctl 9:00 Station Camp vs Briarcrest 10:00 Oneida vs Red Boiling Springs
  15. Based upon the info on the TSSAA website, if the season ended today Quad 2 in 5AAA would look like this: 1. Columbia (7) 2. Anderson Co. (7) 3. Tullahoma (6) 4. Knox. Catholic (6) 5. Shelbyville (6) 6. Cleveland (5, district winner) 7. Lenoir City (4) 8. Clinton (4) I think that after Friday White Co. will get in and Clinton will be out. A Tullahoma loss and a Shelbyville win would switch the two teams allowing the Eagles to probably host a first round. Cleveland is automatically in due to winnning district. Thoughts?
  16. Have to disagree with you. Shelbyville will make the playoffs win or lose. It is just a matter of where they might have to travel if they lose. If there is chance for a 4 win white co to get into the playoff then even a 6-win Shelbyville is a sure thing. A win gives them a shot at hosting a first round game. For LC they must win to make playoffs. I don't see any other way.
  17. phil carr to leave cheatham county Longtime Cheatham County Central High School girls basketball coach Phil Carr announced over the weekend that he is stepping down and taking a teaching position at Christian County High School in Hopkinsville, Ky. Carr, who has led the Lady Cubs program for 21 years, said it was a tough decision, but the new position will allow him to make more money and spend more time with his family. He will continue to live in Pleasant View. "I wasn't really looking to go anywhere, but this is an opportunity for my wife (Lynn) and I, and it's something I have to pursue," he said. During his tenure at Cheatham County, Carr took four teams to the state tournament (1991, 1995, 2003 and 2004). Carr said the School Board's decision in March to eliminate basketball practice during the school day and hold them after hours played a factor in his decision to leave.

  19. You people are so spoiled getting scores from camp.No other camp posts all their scores like Shelbyville usually does.LOL. I can tell that no scores have been kept there this week because it was usually coach or myself posting them.
  20. Probably a combination of all of the above. Ray Rich has been doing camp schedules since Rick was there so that part should go smoothly. Most of the camp details were finalized before Burkey left. Remember Rick left about the same time under the same conditions. I think Burkey was at second camp by then.
  21. First off, get your names and facts straight before posting please. It is Allison Clark not Ashley Clark and she recently has left MTSU and has told several people of her interest in the Shelbyville job. I do agree that the pay scale may be an issue, especially for Burt after being at a higher paying job like Riverdale. I think Clark would have no problem with the pay since she is a former Eaglette and looking for her first head coaching job. I DO NOT believe pay was the issue for Burkey at all. Coach B came to Shelbyville after taking a pay cut from both Oak Ridge as an assistant and as a Head Coach at Greeneville. Both paid more and he knew that going into the job. It is not why he left. I believe that maybe he was frustrated after going all those years and only two state tournament appearances and one in the finals. The talent level never really developed and he had to really do a great coaching job getting some of those players to play where they did. There were no All-Americans or Miss Basketballs in that time to work with. Plus the Shelbyville faithful were getting impatient and restless. I am sure he heard from them a lot as well. This year was supposed to be a year to do good things with so many kids returning. They did well against Lawrenceburg in the district finals then fell apart against Blackman. There was no consistency. Whoever comes in will have to try to rally the troops quickly with team camps coming up and very little to work with in talent. Keeley Sale and Kelsey Smith are the only two kids who saw significant playing time last year. And the point guard position is questionable. The plus for whoever comes...only two seniors including Sale and reserve Taylor Woodard. Everybody else would be back in year two. Something to ponder.
  22. Okay. Being from Shelbyville, I can say I have had the question of who the next Shelbyville coach will be on several occasions. I have heard so many names, it would be hard to list them all. Much like the last time this job was open, but in the end only three people applied. This time I think there will be more people applying as they will not have to be that coach that follows Rick Insell. So based upon what I have heard and some process of elimination I have listed who I think will be front runners for the job... 1. Allison Clark (former MTSU Assistant...degree in PE) 2. Tom Insell (Son of Rick. AAU president and coach) 3. Corey Barrett (Hickman County coach) 4. Boyd West (former Marshall Co. Coach) 5. Ashley Johnson (former Eaglette, Current Lebanon coach) 6. Jack Harlow (Current Assistant) 7. Michael Burt (former Riverdale Coach, motivational speaker) I believe that you take out Boyd West off the top. He is not certified to teach and has a second job. I am not sure the administration wants that setup right now. I think the person must be certified and be ready to teach in some capacity. Ashley Johnson may also be another questionable one as I hear she is wanting to return to school for her PhD and may not want to be a head coach. Rather in an assistants role. I think she would be a good candidate for one of the assistant jobs. I think this will come down to Tom and Allison unless a dark horse applies that no one knows about. Remember there was a lot of buzz about this job last time but people dont apply whey they find out pay scale, etc. Remember there will be several new coaches in the district so competition for Shelbyville this year may be limited to Lawrence Co. or Columbia. (Tullahoma, and Franklin Co. will also have new coaches)
  23. I know a lot of District 7-AAA schools were upset that the tournament did not get moved back to Murfreesboro after all District 8-AAA teams had been eliminated. There was no need for that. The tournament rotates between District 8-AAA and District 7-AAA each year. If all District 8 teams had made the final and it was held in Murfreesboro you would not be hearing them scream for a neutral site. It is fact that the tournament rotates to provide cities with money from visitors, concessions, etc. A region host has to secure officials, tournament workers, security, etc. You can't just change it at the drop of a hat just so a team can be 20 min closer to home. Good grief. you drove that to lavergne. Perhaps the next time District 8 hosts the region we could ship District 7 all the way to Lawrenceburg. Shelbyville is the most centralized location when District 8 hosts so be lucky. I just don't get all the complaining since it has been this way for years. Now let's also say what if the semis had been all District 7 and had gotten moved to their home sites. How could anyone determine All-Tournament teams with teams scattered out. There is a reason there is one host site for the Region and that it rotates between District 7 and District 8. Or what if the TSSAA held the state tournament in Murfreesboro one year. On the opening game, all east tennessee teams win. On the second day of games, it was decided to move them to Cookeville's Tennessee Tech to get them closer to the teams that won. Is that right for MTSU who worked to get the tournament ready and secure workers, etc.? Is that right on fans who make plans or the city who will loose money to the visitors? You can't just up and move a tournament site just because it gets it closer to the teams participating.
